The T-Shirt Dress for Any Age: With a Shirt Underneath
Quote of the day: “Your problem isn’t the problem. Your reaction is the problem.” Anonymous
Transitioning your warm weather clothing is not a new topic for any blogger or magazine. I remember seeing it done in the fashion pages of many of the magazines I would read growing up. But back then, I thought it was quite silly. In my head, I thought you should just have winter items and summer items. Needless to say, I’ve learned that it can be fun to transform our clothing from one season to another. How do you feel about this concept?
In the first post about these t-shirt dresses, we went with a heavier layer over it here. Thus I figured we could layer under it just as easily! I even went to the trouble of making sure the 3 of us each wore a different item under our dresses. I wore a long sleeve t-shirt, Nancy wore a collared blouse, and mom wore a turtleneck! That should be enough variety to make everyone happy–ha ha!
Jodie’s (50’s) Outfit: There are more than one of these burgundyish, long sleeve t-shirts in my closet that I bought super cheap from the LOFT years ago. I used to wear them under my sleeveless shirts and blazers at the workplace! It’s true that the color doesn’t match the purple in the dress, but I thought it still worked?
I’ve been noticing these mirrored sunglasses on more and more people, and for some reason, I just love the look! Of course, it also provides the perfect camouflage for a no makeup day (besides, lipstick)! If you think you need a pair, I signed up as an affiliate just so I could offer my readers a 10% discount. The jade earrings were a gift from my mom when she visited Hong Kong. I think it’s even jade (or something that looks like it) on the necklace. This necklace had actually broken a couple of years ago. Luckily I held onto it, because I finally figured out I could put velcro on the ends to fasten it!
It’s true that I needed another pair of booties like I needed another hole in my head. But I do have to admit, that I saw these on 2 previous occasions and didn’t buy them at those times. So I figured, if I was still wanting them on the third look, that maybe I really did need them? Besides, isn’t plum a neutral? LOL!

Nancy’s (60’s) Outfit: For Nancy’s shirt under her dress, I picked out her white, button down blouse! Next week, we’ll be doing an entire series on this iconic blouse since I’m sure most of us have at least one!
Nancy chose the burgundy shoes to go with the outfit and added in her burgundy necklace. This was all her doing as she didn’t know what I had put together for my look. But isn’t it funny how we are kinda twinsies in the color palette?
Her earrings have both a burgundy color in them and a black, so that’s where the idea for the black bracelet came from.
It is quite surprising to me how “smart” this outfit looked. I seriously could imagine it being worn in a work environment even though it’s a t-shirt dress. I think part of that is the button up blouse and the shoes?? So maybe many of our “casual” items really could be worn to work!

Charlotte’s (70’s) Outfit: I figured that my mom would feel more comfortable with a turtleneck under her dress because she is always cold like I am!
I realize that many of you may not have such a variety of colored boots like these green ones. But I think that any neutral boot (like the brown ones that Nancy wore in the last post) could be great with a striped dress.
Again, I practiced some restraint and only accessorized with earrings, for mom’s outfit. My rationale was only because the boots and dress were so colorful, that maybe we should not overdo it on the bling. So I picked out some silver earrings, yet they aren’t boring or anything!!
I had to include this amusing photo of mom!! We certainly aren’t professional models, so I’ve been trying to get us to have more fun with this picture taking, instead of feeling somewhat uncomfortable with the process! Doesn’t this just make you smile?
