Amuse Bouche #14-Online Shopping-Why?

Amuse Bouche (ˈä-ˌmüz-ˈbüsh): literally translated into “mouth amuser”.  Wikipedia definition: a single, bite-sized hors d’oeuvre.

Jodie’s use of the term: a small hint or clever tip!  (Think Hints from Heloise!!)

Online shopping

I have heard the words “I can’t shop online–I have to try things on” from many an acquaintance.  And I get that.  For some things.  But if you pooh-pooh online shopping for everything, I believe you are truly missing out on many deals and products.  Just like with every other aspect of life there are pros and cons.  Now don’t get me wrong, I love going to the brick & mortar stores also, but why only shop one way?

1-There can be many deals offered online that aren’t available in the stores.  Then there are times that the store has a killer deal.  So if you only shop one way you can miss out!

2-There are items/sizes to be had online that aren’t available in your area.  This can be especially apparent if you happen to be looking for a swimsuit (in Colorado) in the month of August or beyond.  In addition, there are many times, I can find my size at Payless.com when my size isn’t available in the store.

3-If you dislike going to the stores to shop, then this is the perfect avenue for you.  Yes, you may have to go to the store (or post office) in order to return something, but it’s fast.  Return it and leave!

4-It’s especially great if you’re looking for a particular item.  It’s much faster to online shop by googling that piece than going to 10 different stores.  This specifically works wonderfully if you want this item to go with a couple of already acquired things.  Once it’s delivered to your doorstop, then you can try it on with the said articles of clothing.  It can be difficult to lug around clothing to the store to make sure it’ll work.

5-Many online stores offer free shipping and returns.  If they only offer it with a certain price point, then you might consider ordering enough to get that price point & return the rest (if it’s possible to return it at the store for free)

6– Some things aren’t as fitted or have no fit issues: jewelry, scarves, containers, perfume, belts, household decor, gifts and purses! Perfect for online shopping.

7-And who doesn’t love a package on their doorstop every once in a while?

Thanks for reading–next Monday I’ll discuss some tips & tricks to making this online shopping experience more successful!!  And stay tuned for this week’s styling of the polka dot blouse!

All the clothes I ever purchased on line and TV were the clothes that received the most raves from friends and family. You can find some really unique clothing on QVC and HSN. HOWEVER, one can become addicted to that type of shopping. I learned the hard way. Think MODERATION in all purchases. Nancy Siegel

    • That is the case in everything isn’t it? Like I heard…moderation in everything including moderation!!! 🙂

  • I would actually love to be able to shop online more. You are right, many things aren’t offered in store that are offered online. Living in Canada however is a HUGE detriment when it comes to online shopping. We are charged CRAZY shipping rates duty and taxes at the border and then of course if it doesn’t fit…don’t try to return it. You have to pay for all of that all over again. I’ve ordered a couple of items and they haven’t fit as I would have liked. I honestly don’t shop online much at all now. : ( I could see though I would easily become addicted if I lived in the States.

    • Are there no Canandian stores that you can buy from online? Your predicament would be such a downer…kind of like living in the 1900’s…ha ha! We have an extra bedroom if you want to come live with us to get your online shopping fix!!!

I prefer to shop in-store just because I like to try things on, but I do a fair amount of online shopping because some stores aren’t local or like you said sizes or deals aren’t available. I’ve just had to accept returns are part of the process.

    • Great point…If you realize there will be a return most of the time, then it’s not as frustrating!! Just like trying on clothes in the store!

  • I have only become open to purchasing clothing on-line this year. Once I started it was too easy to keep it up! Brick & Mortar is still my favorite, though.

    • I hear you….I still LOVE going shopping, but i think you miss out if you don’t consider the online piece!

  • Great tips! I live in small town USA, web shopping is perfect to find sales and comparison shop for best price.

    • You’re absolutely right….online shopping would make life much easier when there are not as many stores nearby!!

  • Um…I spent the weekend doing a bunch of online shopping. Shoes, clothes, makeup and skincare.
