Black & White for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: Along with our Favorite Color

Quote of the day: “Here’s what I say about aging: It’s really scary when you’re looking at it from the outside. When you’re inside it, it’s not scary at all. You feel better.” Jane Fonda

Just like Nancy pointed out in her response to the question asked in the last post on the merits of black & white (here), pairing these neutrals with a color is a great way to make the color pop. The easy thing (as Nancy & I are showing) is to wear a black & white striped shirt with your color of choice (okay—this wasn’t really planned that Nancy and I would wear similar shirts, but they still are a little different, right?). Or like the outfit mom is wearing, you could combined three different solid pieces!

I asked the three of us about our favorite color—who/what/where/when or why? Eve & Sheela are joining us again for their take on this topic.

Jodie’s Outfit: My favorite color has changed over the years, but right now, it has to be yellow! I have so much of it, that Darlene, one of my blogging friends, wondered if I need an intervention–ha ha!! I think I’ve been gravitating towards it recently because it’s bright and fun! It’s a happy color and I’m doing what makes me happy!

The skirt was one of those impulse buys at least 4 years ago! We happened to have an extra couple minutes before a party we were attending, so I popped in the Loft, saw it and snapped it up—I even wore it that night because it looked better than the skirt I had originally put on!

I have a confession…I never understood the love of striped shirts, until I bought one. For some reason it’s such a fun print, and I can’t quite figure out why. But I now have 3 different colored ones in my closet—eek!!

Nancy’s Outfit: Nancy discusses that she started liking the color pink only after she was in a fashion show in high school. They had dressed her in a pink and white dress and so many people complimented her on that color and on how it worked beautifully with her complexion. Since then, she admits to having a hard time staying away from pink!

You can see that Nancy’s sporting some block heeled sandals as well. She actually has had these for years and was getting ready to throw them out, when she saw my post on the new trend in shoes (here).

Nancy would have only worn the shorter necklace because the longer one covers the buttons! I say the more the merrier. Have you been layering your necklaces?

Charlotte’s Outfit: Mom doesn’t remember why blue is her favorite color, but she can remember that it was the case as far back as junior high school. She has the memory of looking at all her clothes hanging in her room (they didn’t have closets in the up-stair bedrooms) and everything looked blue so to remedy that, the next dress she purchased was red! Of course, there is still a ton of blue in her house to this day!!

First, we have to thank mom’s neighbor, Madonna, for letting us pose by her gorgeous poppy & irises….some people have such a green thumb!

This bracelet mom is wearing was actually her grandmother’s bracelet. It’s such a classic design, you’d never realize it was from a different decade!

Sheela’s Outfit: So mom isn’t the only one who loves her blues!!! Click over to Sheela Writes to read Sheela’s writings. Sheela is always expounding on many a philosophical subject— she shows off an amazing outfit (and shoes), but it’s not her focus!

Eve’s Outfit: So I guess we can say blue is the winner, since Eve chose it also! They say that blue is the most popular color in the world!! Make sure to visit The World According to Eve for her feature!! She takes after her mother in the fascinating shoe department!!
