Bomber Jacket for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: The Dressy Version

Quote of the day: “That’s the real secret to dressing well: It’s all about attitude…It’s about walking into a room, knowing that you look and feel good, and projecting that attitude out to everyone who sees you.” Betty Halbreich

This set of outfits could be considered a stretch for most of us. Or what I would call a miss. But we took the pictures, so I thought I’d share the struggle. Even though Nancy’s & mom’s jackets are shiny, I still don’t feel like it fits the dressy occasion. Thus I tried to style the jackets with dresses to up the formal factor. These looks are just not my favorites! You can see the same jackets styled for a trip to an appointment (here) and an errand day (here).

50’s Bomber Jacket: I actually zipped up the jacket behind me to make it more like a shawl. Still, it looks strange to me.

60’s Bomber Jacket: I love this maxi for Nancy, but to me the jacket doesn’t fit the bill. We tried to tuck the collar under, but I think a sweater would have been better.

Bomber Jacket: (similar here)~~Dress: Walgreens–seriously…isn’t it cute? (similar here)~~Sandals: Soft Spots (similar here)~~Necklace: (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)

70’s Bomber Jacket: This necklace is magnetic at the silver junctures…thus you can make it different lengths or even use it as a bracelet.

Here’s some other bomber jackets to love:

I hit Like for these 3. There’s something very appealing and fresh about the loose, masculine jacket with a dress, and I will try this look. Would have liked to see your jacket open like the others. That pretty lace jacket is lovely with your dress. Nancy’s cute dress is from Walgreen’s, the drugstore? Good shoppers know to keep their eyes open for bargains everywhere! I know I do. (Love Charlotte’s necklace – so cool.)

Well, then I’ll just have to try my jacket over this dress again and leave it open, Kathleen!!
Our Walgreens sometimes has clothing—and when I saw this, I thought it’d be great for Nancy (and very inexpensive, in case she didn’t love it)! I know she doesn’t wear it much, so I’ll have to try to style it more this summer for her to get her in the habit!! It’s such a pretty color!

What a fun post! Totally agree the jackets can work for everyone!

  • I love all three dresses, especially your mom’s wine colored dress mixed with the print of her bomber jacket. Great color combination!
