Borrowing from the Boys for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: Wearing Men’s Jewelry

I’m finishing this series about borrowing some of the men’s fashions by showing the three of us wearing jewelry that is sold for men. And you even get to see more with Sheela & Eve !! Since the jewelry is smaller, make sure to link to each blog post so you can see the up close photos!!
I grabbed three different pieces from Rob’s jewelry holder—a necklace, a tie clip and cuff links. Then I let mom & Nancy pick their choice for our outfits!
When my husband and I were first dating I bought him a necklace. It was actually purchased in the men’s department but he didn’t like the term necklace. Thus, ever since then, we call it his “stud apparel!” Needless to say, he now has quite a few of these items, and wears them regularly for our outings. I included a picture from a couple years ago with him wearing one of his pieces!!
The entire week was trying to see if us women could still look good in a couple of item’s from the men’s category. See how we wore my husband’s shirts here and his accessories here.

Eve from The World According to Eve: It’s hard to see in this photo, so make sure to go to Eve’s blog to see the closeup shots! Eve’s wearing a cuff link on her choker necklace—I swear this girl is so creative!! I’m going to do that!
Sheela from Sheela Writes: Again, the full photo makes it hard to see the details, but Sheela is wearing her husband’s baptismal bracelets! The long duster and beret give her such flair!!
Jodie’s (50’s) Outfit: I was left to style Rob’s stud apparel from our choices above. I don’t usually style an outfit starting with a necklace, but I guess it’s not much different than starting with a pair of shoes, right?
Since the necklace is masculine in nature with the leather & silver bead, I wanted to tie in both feminine and masculine features in my outfit.
The brogue shoes and tweed jacket were the pieces I thought to be on the manly side. And then my lace shirt under the jacket seemed more girly!
I could have easily worn my blue jeans with this outfit too. But lately, I love the all white underneath. Doesn’t it pop the colors of the rest of the outfit that way?

Nancy’s (60’s) Outfit: Nancy picked this tie clip to style for the theme. Again (like the belt in the last post), it was originally my dad’s piece, so she thought it’d be a nice tribute to him.
I was trying to be very creative when I came up with a usage for a man’s tie clip. I was hoping it could work as a closure for a sweater. It’s probably not the best of my ideas—in retrospect, it would have worked better to hold a scarf together since that would be more like it’s original function. And as I was sitting here looking at the tie clip–I realized it could work also as a barrette for my hair! I wished I had thought of that before we took these photos!!
We went with gold accessories since the tie clip was gold with some bling. Even though the outfit itself is quite casual, I figured some dressier jewelry was fine.
Since Nancy was wearing my dad’s tie clip, she also opted for this necklace. Dad’s name was Joe, and Nancy got this pendant right after his death as memorial to him since it’s in the shape of a “J”.

Charlotte’s (70’s) Outfit: Mom picked out the cuff links to wear from Rob’s jewelry stash! Rob actually has quite a few pair of cuff links in his possession, and some were even my dad’s. He has a couple of shirts that he can wear them with when we’re going out on the town.
But for the woman’s version of wearing these pieces of jewelry, I wanted a different way to style them. So I used the cuff links as a sweater closure, just like for Nancy’s outfit.
I’ve used this trick in the past (check out the post, here) and it can work great on a very loose weave sweater! The trick is being careful with the studs of the cuff links so they don’t catch the yarn when you take them out!
I layered a lilac turtleneck under the sweater and left the sweater open at the bottom.
