Bow Tie Blouse for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: Good for the Office

Quote of the day: “If you make friends with yourself, you will never be alone.” – Maxwell Maltz

Just as the saying goes—everything that goes around, comes around. And the bow tie blouse is coming around again. I must admit that I wasn’t a huge fan the first time around—too fussy & girly for me. But it certainly can be one of those versatile items, so you might as well give it a go. This post shows how it can be styled for the workplace–conservative, businessy and yet a little fun.

50’s Bow-Tie Blouse: My ties on the blouse are a little shorter than what you normally see. And you can’t really tell with this cardigan over it, but wait until you see the print details in Saturday’s post!!

I’ll start the shopping with some very fun sleeveless bow tie blouses (I like them because they don’t add bulk or too much warmth): (there will be others on my facebook page on Wednesday):

Like brooches, never considered bow tie blouses out of style! It’s all in how you wear them. You styled all 3 looks for each model so nicely.

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s because you are a smart cookie!!
I think I never really liked them because they were fussy and girly. I’m so glad I’m over that now!! 🙂

Jodie, this is a great Post ! Bow tie tops are so versatile as you have shown here ! They really can be dressed up or down so easily could even be worn with jeans and for such a wide range of ages. Thanks for sharing these cute looks at Wearing with Wisdom #134 on King Maker Blog.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Leticia!!

  • Catherine Urbanski

I LOVE the blouse from Amazon. Bow tie blouses, for me, are difficult to wear because they can have a tendancy to look outdated. You did a fantastic job! Thank you!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t the print on that one just gorgeous?? I think that’s why I didn’t like them for awhile (felt dated)—but I do like them better either untied or tied halfway down the chest!! Thanks for your wonderful comment Catherine!!

  • Bernadette Laganella

Jodie, Thanks for posting. I am not a fan of the bow tie either. But you did a good job of styling them. I just got home from the mall and they are all over. I am going to bookmark this post in case I buy one.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Hi Bernadette…I think I’m finally learning to be more open to items. My first response when I started seeing these blouses was ugh!! But since then, I’ve seen a couple I really like—especially when the ties are not tied (at least in a bow)!

  • Jodie…I chuckled at your “bow tie” title, I was expecting a dicky bow and was VERY curious :oP
I used the “pussy bow” name for these blouses when I wore my vintage jumper and it was only afterwards that I realised that I should have been more careful with the title…oops
I had a few dodgy site links on my stats!
Anyway, you live and learn….I like your title better!
I just love your Mum’s layers here…that little tank top is so cute.
Nancy’s blouse is the most beautiful pattern…but you have stolen the show here, for me.
Could you look any more adorable?!
I love the colours and the shape of your outfit.
Add boots or brogues (for the Scottish weather) and I would be wearing this tomorrow!
    Great styling!

Funny Samantha because I noticed you called it the pussy bow—and I can see how it got you some unexpected traffic—- that could be a good thing? Maybe you Scots don’t use that term?
Thanks for the appreciation…I could/probably should have worn my boots—but it was relatively warmer when I took these pix (and my poor toes have hardly seen the light of day)!!
      Happy hump day!!!

  • dan

I am not a fan of shirts with bow either, but I have to admit that your selection is so pretty and feminine!
The shirt that you are wearing has a cute little bow. ..it is very nice!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Dan!! I do love the print because it has boots & purses on it (you’ll see it better on Saturday’s post!)

  • Lorena Lorena

I love these tops – for me they are utterly timeless and can be worn for work or casually.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Lorena! I’ve decided I like it better untied–can’t figure out why!

  • I’ve found myself more and more drawn to tops like this. They are so fun! Everyone looks great in them, I love how the bows are worn differently.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I like how you can change up the bows too—I think that is why I was willing to try them out again—although I do shy away from the regular bow—seems too fussy to me!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

A fantastic trio of looks… I’ve been steering clear of the trend as it felt silly for my stay at mom lifestyle.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Ahhh…but on Thursday, I’ll show them for casual days! 🙂

  • Cute looks! I just might have to add the Pussy Bow blouse to my thrift list!

How funny, you have a list!! I gave up going and looking for certain items because I could never find what I wanted. I seem to do better when I just go and “look”!
