Bow Tie Blouse 2 (Casual)

Bow Tie Blouse for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: Good for Play Time

Quote of the day: “Youth and beauty are not accomplishments, they’re the temporary happy byproducts of time and/or DNA. Don’t hold your breath for either.” Carrie Fisher

Any way you look at it,  by wearing jeans one can casualize almost anything. And since the temperatures have dropped considerably, I added layers to our bow tie blouses. Under the blouse, over the blouse, or in my case, both ways…it’s a great way to keep warm! I styled these exact same pieces for a business day here.

60’s Bow Tie Blouse: I really like when a shirt hangs out under a jacket—to me it’s like an extra decoration. And if you look closely, you can see that we only got one earring in for the pictures—oopsy!!

Here’s some solid colored shirts with that same wonderful bow design that will look great on you:

  • Love the texture of the layers!! And I love that Carrie Fisher quote… so true and so well-put…! #FridayFrivolity

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Sarah!!

  • Happinessatmidlife

I am a big fan of pussy bow blouses but I can never tie it properly. Love all the ways you ladies styled your top. Thank you for being a part of TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you soon!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Maybe that’s why I don’t love them all tied in a bow….I like them so much better untied or very low, loosely tied!!!

  • Like you, I wasn’t a fan first time around as I always thought they looked a little prissy and to be honest, I’m still a little ambivalent. But I do like the way you’ve styled these for a casual look. Totally works and great layering touches here.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Jacqueline! I’m right with you—I’m not sure I’d buy another one…unless it was a fabulous print (because I could probably remove the ties if I ever wanted!)

  • Audrey at Munofore

I don’t think I have any bow tie blouses, I might have to get one. Thanks for sharing
on #FridayFrivolity. Please join us again next week.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for hosting the link up Audrey!!

  • Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style.

  • Cathy Lawdanski

Great ideas. I am not good and “thinking up” combinations – I need a picture just like these. Thanks!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I think that’s why fashion bloggers have come so far—it is nice to see examples (and we know that fashion magazines are just a little “out there”!! Thanks for reading Cathy!!

  • Katy Kozee

I really love your outfit, especially the jeans and the shoes. Super cute! I voted love on all of the outfits – great inspiration. I would have told you before now that I hated bow-tie blouses because they were too 80s.

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s exactly how I felt at first. I’ve decided I like the blouses better either untied or loosely tied. The way my mom tied her blouse for tomorrow’s post brings back that 80’s vibe I didn’t love!! Thanks for reading!!

  • Revina Crouse

When I see snow, I always assume people living in those conditions have to cover up and can’t be cute while they are outside. Boy was I wrong! I really like the way you’ve styled all three. If I ever move to a colder climate, I will be ready.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Reading this made me laugh Revina! Full disclosure here: most days in Colorado are warmer than you think, so since the lighting is better outside—we try to take the pictures outside. There are days we freeze our tookus off!! But if I were hanging outside for a long time, you can bet, I’d have gloves, hat and many more layers on my booty!

  • I’ve ALMOST bought one like the Mango one you pictured several times. They’re so retro and so modern at the same time. I love how you’ve styled these. And I’m crazy about Carrie Fisher, AND that quote. xx

    • Jodie Filogomo

That quote really makes you think, huh? Thanks for taking the time to say Hi, Lisa!!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

Great Layering! I too like the blouse peeking out of the bottom of a jacket. Wonderful quote of the day!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Tracey!!

  • Lorena Lorena

I loved that quote by Carrie FIsher : ) Could not agree more… and you’re all looking fab.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Lorena for reading!!

  • Okay…I want your shoes!!! What size are you? 😉

    • Jodie Filogomo

7 or 7.5—see another good reason for you to move closer—we could trade shoes and I could do your alterations!!!

      • Oh my gosh girl!!!! Shoes for alterations? That sounds like a win-win for both of us!

      • Sounds like a win-win to me! Except for the weather…
