Bright Handbag for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: As a Contrast

Quote of the day: “Judging others leaves no time to love them.” sign seen on a church in Biloxi, Mississippi.

We were gifted these handbags from AmiClubwear but I was not paid for this post.  Aren’t they cute?

So your purse doesn’t match a thing in your outfit…that’s fine!  It’s like any piece you’re “wearing”….as long as it goes, it’ll look nice! After showing these same purses as a pop of color (here) and matching pieces (here), I’ll display them now as a contrasting color item. I’ve heard many a theory that if you’re smaller in statue like Nancy & myself, your purse shouldn’t be large, but let’s get serious.  There’s a lot of “stuff” that needs to be lugged around at times and a smaller purse won’t always cut it!  So I say pshaw to that rule!

For those of you more interested in neutral handbags, I found these: (for some reason the Guess link isn’t working–but they have some nice ones!!)

I love a pretty color bag as a contrast. I can’t be bothered changing bags all the time, so I pick a color and use that bag for a few weeks. I’m currently carrying a violet bag with whatever I wear. I love how you introduced Nancy’s bag color in her necklace. Looks great! Such a clever way to tie in the bag – plan to try that. I always carry a large bag as I must have all my stuff with me at all times. Am amazed at women who carry a small purse.

I never used to change my purses except for a special night out. But since I’ve been blogging, I do like how you can add so much to an outfit with your purse.
I do have most of my items in smaller pouches which makes it easy for transferring! As for the small bags—they are easier on my shoulders if I’ll be carrying it lots!! (although my husband is wonderful about taking it off my hands if it gets too heavy!!)

  • I love bags that can convert to a crossbody if you need it. You get more for your money! And I agree, as long as the bag isn’t the size of a suitcase bigger bags are great. The only time I veer away from that is with clutches as some how a big clutch swamps – well on me anyway!

    • I agree with the thought on clutches…and especially if they’re too big, then they are hard to carry!!!

  • This post reminds me that I really need a new handbag! I must be am exception rather than a rule as I generally only ever have one handbag at a time! So, you can imagine how beaten & battered it gets! Love the colours of these!

    • That was so me, just a couple years ago. I’ve just started getting a couple handbags to switch out—but if you have one great one…at least you get full use out of it!!

  • Next to shoes, purses are my second most favorite accessory as evidenced by my closet. I am not sure why I prefer larger purses because I don’t fill them with anything worthwhile, but smaller bags aren’t what I normally buy or thrift.

    • I think larger bags make more of a statement…besides you can put stuff in them for “just in case”—so you’re prepared (like a boy scout!!)

      • or if you have tickets to “Let’s Make a Deal” – lol

  • I love the idea of using a handbag as a way to bring color to an outfit.

Women always have so many things to keep at handy that they need big purses! Your blue one is very nice! I like how you matched colours in your outfit …

  • Loving all of these contrasting colors! I really like the mix of colors in your look, Jodie. So fab! Whenever I buy a purse I always look for something bright that is going to stand out, so I really like all of the ones featured here. Enjoy your weekend!

    • Thanks Jennie….I think one of my favorite purses of all time was an orange one due to exactly what you said!! Have a great day!!
