Wearing Your Brooches at Your Waist

Quote of the day: “No effort is ever wasted, although some pay dividends later than you think. Do not imagine that you “wasted your time” because something didn’t turn out right. There is no such thing as “waste” in the Universe. Everything — everything — yields benefit. It’s true. And your life will show you this. So don’t decry the “effort that failed.” All things lead to your highest good. You just may not know it yet.” Neale Donald Walsch

Many of us women in the older age brackets have a couple of brooches in our jewelry boxes. And that could be exactly where they sit day after day. So in our challenge to try to bring them out in the day light and wear them more, we continue styling these pieces. The first post showed us all wearing the brooches on the top half of our body (here).

This time I decided to see how they’d look at the waistband. I’ve seen female stars on the red carpet wear pins on their dresses like this, but have never tried it myself. I will say, it’s certainly not the first accessory I would reach for in these instances, but why not be different. But what do you think? Tell me below in the comments!

My first instinct was to use the pin on the waistband of a dress for all of us, but then I figured, I might as well try a variety of ways, right? So to give you all a multitude of options, I wore pants, Nancy wore a skirt, and mom wore a dress.
Then I’ve also come up with a way to wear it at my waist on a belt here

Jodie’s (50’s) Outfit: In order to keep the brooch as the focal point, I wanted to keep both my top and pants a solid color.

Since the brooch is an orange, then I incorporated that into color into my earrings too, so it would hopefully look more cohesive!

I had to find some pants that didn’t have belt loops which was probably the hardest part. These trousers are a sweater material and are my go-to pants when travelling since they aren’t tight.

I never thought that sweater pants would be something I’d wear, but I’ve been so surprised at how versatile they can be!

Nancy’s (60’s) Outfit: For Nancy’s brooch at her waist, I decided to try to match the shirt to her pin!

It’s a rare instance when Nancy tucks in a shirt, so this was definitely a stretch for her (way to go Nancy!).

If you’re short waisted too, do you always keep your shirts untucked? I admit that I don’t tuck in my shirts much, but Nancy never does unless I ask her to for the blog. For this instance, we even pulled her skirt down slightly below her natural waist. Can you tell?

Charlotte’s (70’s) Outfit: My mom got to wear a print dress even though we wanted to highlight the brooch.

Since the pin is a contrasting color, I thought the brooch still was a focal point. Especially since we left mom’s decolletage bare!

Since the pin has a red background, I had mom wear a red camisole, earrings and shoes to continue that color throughout her outfit!

Whether your brooches are sentimental because they’ve been handed down by people you know and love, or they just caught your eye, I think this style can be fun! Some of you may think, “why would I want to bring attention to my waist area?” And I would laugh and say, “to keep the attention away from a bad hair day!!”

I showed a couple more ideas of wearing brooches at your waist recently here.

Will you try this?? Let me know!!
