Brooches for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: On an Accessory

Brooches for the 50's, 60's, & 70's.

Quote of the day: “There are people who make things happen, those who watch what happens, and those who wonder what happened.” Anonymous

After wearing our brooches on our upper torso (here) and waist (here), I decided to add it to an accessory. We’ve all sported a different pin in each of these posts and this post is no exception. I wanted to show the pin on a variety of different accessories. Thus I wore my pin on a hat, Nancy wore hers on a scarf, and mom pinned hers to her purse.

50’s Brooch: My pin would probably have shown up better on a solid colored hat—either that or a brighter colored pin!

And here’s a mish mash of other brooches:

Yes to brooches of all sizes and types! Love them on/with any outfit or accessory. Many work well affixed to necklaces. Also love groupings of small brooches. While I have a great many (and have every holiday covered), I still regret a darling Christmas brooch that I did not purchase at a thrift store because I listened to my friend who said it was matronly. It wasn’t. I won’t make that mistake again. Love all of the looks above. P.S. Also have a collection of cloth/textile flower pins which I love to wear on coats and jackets, particularly jean jackets. And affixed to a hair band.

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’ll teach you to listen to your friends, Kathleen, LOL!
Where did you get your cloth flower pins?? My mom has a ton of them (seriously—at least 20) but she’s made most of them from scraps leftover from her sewing projects!!

      • Kathleen McDermott

I’ve had them a long time and can’t remember for all. But I know I’ve found them at unusual places like Walmart, Target and drug stores like Rite Aid. Some I find as hair accessories and I just affix them to a pin instead. Likewise with silk flowers 🌺.

        • Jodie Filogomo

That’s such a great idea to make it a pin yourself. Although I’m not going to tell mom—lord knows she needs another one like she needs a hole in her head! 🙂

  • The Style Crone

I adore a great brooch, and love what you’ve done here with this accessory. I’m very excited that you chose to adorn your hat with a brooch. It adds the perfect amount of sparkle and fun. Thank you so much for sharing with Hat Attack!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Judith—I really got the idea from all your wonderful hats!!

  • Very cute ways to wear a brooch! I don’t wear them at all, but love to see them on others…great post!

      Your too kind Samantha!
Can you believe my mom had shoes like this before me? When I was cleaning out her closet i found them, and was blown away (she got them out of a catalog)! I keep telling her to start wearing them more—the problem is she has so many shoes (yes, even more than me), that they don’t make the rotation often!!
Happy Sunday and thanks for always giving such thoughtful opinions!!

  • SheelaGoh

I adore seeing the brooch on your knit hat, Jodie, so charming. And are those snakeskin flats I see??? xo

    • Jodie Filogomo

Of course…I love my snakeskin flats—they’re Ballasox–super comfy!!

  • Rena

Love this series and all of the gorgeous pins. I really need to wear more of mine and what a fabulous idea your mom had to add a brooch to her purse. I definitely need to use that one.

I know….between trying to be creative and other’s reader’s suggestions, I might have to do another series! They can be fun when I don’t forget about them! Thanks for chiming in Amy!!
