Fall Cardigans with VIPme.com

With the first day of fall coming up this week, I figured it was as good a time as any to start thinking about layering with sweaters! VIPme.com generously gave us these three cardigans for us to review and you can benefit from this collaboration too. Use the code Jodie235 to receive $5 off any $50 order until October 18, 2016!

I explained my love of VIPme.com in my past review of their dresses which I considered works of art (the post can be viewed here). In this post the cardigans I chose for the three of us are almost opposite of the dresses: They are more subdued, solid colored, and understated. However, there are some details in each item that makes them more unique and interesting! I realize that most of us think of the fall season where darker colors emerge. Yet I decided to go with somewhat light colors with these sweaters!

Even though as I’ve gotten older, I try to enjoy the season & weather that is happening in the moment (not what it says on the calendar); I am also a planner by nature. So thinking about how to cover up when the mornings and evenings start to be chilly, is reasonable! And if you know me, you realize I love a great deal. Thus there are many times, I’m shopping at the end of the season for end of season sales. However, the other side of the coin is that when you purchase something at the start of the season, you have the ability to wear it oodles while you still love it!

Outfits: So here are the cardigans! I styled each one for two separate occasions, since that’s what normal people do!!

Jodie’s (50’s) Dressy Outfit: I choose this cardigan because of the lovely textures included on the piece. It has stripes on the body portion, small openings at the bottom portion and fringe in the front! It’s a very lightweight cardigan, and I loved that the sleeves weren’t too long!

For the dressy outfit, I threw it on over my leopard shift dress. I figured the cardigan gave the outfit some visual interest so to take your attention away from the fact that the dress is shapeless!

Jodie’s (50’s) Casual Outfit: The fringe gives it a boho air in my opinion, so I put it on with my flares! This outfit was perfect for the day, because I was able to take off the sweater in the car, but throw it back on when we went into the stores! I do love how it’s slightly different in the front versus the back!

Even though this sweater says one size it runs kind of small. I am showing it pulled together as much as it will in the above picture, so it’s not meant to close or overlap in front. For reference I am a size small on top, and it won’t touch even on me!

Nancy’s (60’s) Dressy Outfit: As we know, the advantage of neutrals, is they will pair with everything. This summer dress of Nancy’s gets autumnized with her cardigan!

I picked this sweater for the interesting ruffles on the sides! And there’s a button under the arm which is for show only!

Nancy’s (60’s) Casual Outfit: This coffee colored cardigan will go with absolutely everything in your closet. I used it to tame down the brighter colors for both of Nancy’s outfits.

This sweater fits Nancy perfectly. She’s only 5’0″ and it doesn’t overwhelm her in length or bulk! It has the detail where the hem is shorter on the sides and longer in the front and back! I think it could certainly be tacked together in the front with a pin if you want!

Charlotte’s (70’s) Dressy Outfit: This cardigan is called a cape on the website, yet it’s not as unstructured as a normal cape! It’s a light pink in color which you may not think about wearing as much in the fall season. But I think it’s a wonderful compliment to the darker colors we usually pull out in autumn. Although I styled her in all white below–ha ha!

Doesn’t mom’s hair look nice tucked behind her ears?

Charlotte’s (70’s) Casual Outfit: This cardigan is probably the heaviest of the three we received. It definitely has more weight to it, yet the nice thing is the sleeves aren’t long. I wished I’d styled a long sleeve tee under it, because that’s how mom will most likely wear it!

I think it’ll also look very nice pinned in the front. There is no closure made into the sweater, but I bet you could hold it together with a brooch!

We put on a scarf for two reasons. One because all white isn’t great with mom’s complexion. And secondly because she thinks it’s strange to be wearing a sweater yet have her neck exposed!

Love all 3 cardigans and all of the outfits. The neutral colors allow them to complement almost any color or pattern, while the unique style of each cardigan makes them charming, chic and interesting. Hard to pick a favorite. Your fringed one is so perfect with your flares. The ruffles are very cute on Nancy without overwhelming her petite frame. Charlotte’s is just her style – tres chic. Her hair does look very appealing tucked behind her ears. She always looks like a Vogue model.

Also really love both neck scarves, Nancy’s bracelet and your yellow glasses!

    • Thanks so much Kathleen!! I have to admit, that I’ve worn the heck out of this cardigan, and so has mom & Nancy!! It’s so nice when you find items that work so well!!
      XOXO

  • Jodie the cardigans are fantastic. I absolutely love the one you are wearing. It looks so cozy and modern at the same time. And your mom is quite the vision in the cardigan coupled with the white! She looks fabuous !

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks tons Mary!!
I even wore this cardigan the other night instead of a blazer—it was a more casual evening, and I wanted to look fashionable!!
My mom has worn her cardigan twice already…and of course got a bunch of compliments.
Nancy even said she wore hers to church last week—it’s so nice to pick out items that you really like!!

  • Love these cardigans! I definitely need to check out VIPMe!

  • Cardigans are one of the reasons I’m looking forward to fall! 🙂 You picked lovely ones and created wonderful outfit! I’m sure all of you will get lots of wear out of them!

Cardigans and boots—they kinda are the fall theme, huh?
Thanks for your lovely compliments, and I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of these in the future!!

  • Great to see you revisiting VIPme so we can get a broader sense of their styles. I’m off to browse their site when I’m done here.

I love cascading cardigans like this for fall. There’s so cozy, and they feel glamorous and luxe despite being shapeless “blanket clothes.” lol They’re the epitome of comfy-chic!

My favorite look is your outfit with the sunnies, neck scarf, and flares. You look fabulous in a flared jean! The look has a retro vibe I just adore. And I really like the ruffles on the style Nancy is wearing!

Thanks for the wonderful compliments Liz!
I had to laugh when I put on my new flare jeans—I was so happy because they made me look curvy!!
And I do think that cardigans are a wardrobe staple, but we still don’t want them to be boring, right?

  • Jodie, I love cardigans they are so warm and cozy feeling. I love all three of them but especially the fringed one you are wearing. Fringe is all the rage this year or so I hear lol xo

The more you post about VIPme, the more I find myself perusing their website! I haven’t bought anything yet — I love so many things there that it’s a little overwhelming to choose just one or two pieces! For example, I could see wearing all three of the cardigans you posted — which one to choose??? And I love how you’ve styled them.

    Hugs,

It is amazing how the temperatures can change so radically.
The pink cape is definitely my favorite too—I actually ordered it thinking I’d keep it, but alas, that didn’t happen!!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

Well if you read my blog you know I am a lover of 3rd completer pieces and nothing is more fun for Fall, than breaking them out or adding in a few more. These are all very on trend sweaters with the details like your fringe, Nancy’s ruffles and the blush and black combo of Mom’s. An easy way to add a trendy piece to your style.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I agree Tracey with the thinking that a 3rd piece is the key to a put together look!
I really don’t have any of these longer cardigans, but I really like them! Good thing styles change so much, or we’d get bored with our closets, right?

The soft pink of your mom’s cardigan definitely pairs well with the darker colors of fall! Cardigans are such versatile pieces and you did such a nice job of showing them dressed up and down!

      Thanks Erica!!
My mom’s is my fave too (I was going to keep that one, but the beige one wouldn’t have fit her…bummer!!)

  • Wow! That dress!!! I am sorry Jodie nut lately I am totallyin love with everything that has a leopard print. Fantastic! And Nancy s cardigan is also very nice!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I really loved it too when I bought it, but I’ve been perplexed at how to wear it—it just seems so shapeless (but at least it was only $15).
I need to start being creative and see how to style it more!
      Thanks for the push Nancy!!

      • I would love to see you wearing it with a darker cardigan, darkbrown, or a denim jacket!

        • Jodie Filogomo

Just for you Nancy—I’ll work on that!! It’s good to have a different eye looks at these things!!

  • Queen of Rods

I like all three of the cardigans, and especially how you styled them. I love your hat and the yellow sunglasses/scarf combination. It would be nice to see a picture of your cardigan from the back since it is so different from the front 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for always asking for what you want Janet—I still worry about boring readers with too many pictures…ha ha!
So I added one of the back of my cardigan…just for you!! 🙂

  • I’ve really got into long line cardigans in recent years and not just for jeans, they work equally well with skirts and dresses. I really like all 3. The fringe detailing on yours Jodie is really fun especially the the flares.
‘Autumnized’ – that made me chuckle. I love the soft drape of Nancy’s but your Mum’s one is a cracker especially as pink isn’t an obvious ‘autumn’ colour.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I have to admit, I don’t have many of this length in my closet—so we’ll see how I like it!
As for autumnized—my husband gives me a hard time that I make up words—but it’s my blog, right? I can make up all the words I want!!

  • donnaduck

Oh, I love cardigans!! These are all great, Jodie, and I especially love your mom’s! And I agree about your mom’s hair that Judy commented- she took years off her face by putting her hair behind her ears!! So cute!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks for the lovely words!!
Hopefully mom will believe you more than she does me—ha ha!!

  • Judy Gramith

These cardigans are great!!! I think you’re all going to find them very versatile. As you said Jodie, the neutral colors will make them workhorses in your wardrobes.

I LOVE Charlotte’s hair tucked behind her ears! I also prefer her neck covered. The wide structure of this cape needs that volume at her neck to give balance to the look.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for the comment on mom’s hair—I’m trying to nudge (and by nudge I mean nag) her into a different hairstyle. Something a little more modern and fun since she’s so open to new fashion styles!!

  • So many fun pieces on all of you!

  • I love cardigans because I can take them on and off so easily. These cardigans are all very unique, I especially love Charlotte’s!

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s exactly the advantage in my book too Amy!!
I love my mom’s too—in fact I was going to keep it for me, except the beige one was too small for both Nancy & mom—so I got that one!

  • linda

All three of you look amazing, as always! Am I right in saying, a beautiful mother and a beautiful step mother to a beautiful daughter. I think that’s why I love your blog so much…it is very “personal”.

    • Jodie Filogomo

What a marvelous comment to read this morning Linda! Thank you so much for saying that!

    • Nancy Nagy

I am such a lucky stepmom! Can you see why? And i don’t mean it is because of the clothes!

      • Jodie Filogomo

  • Wow, these cardigans make you younger. Fabulous cardigans. Real boon! Like all three cardigans!
