Fringe 2 (On a Necklace)

Fringe for 50, 60 & 70 year old women.

Fringe for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: On a Necklace

Quote of the day: “Have kindness, empathy, and gratitude every single day. If you have your health, you’re ahead.” Jennifer Aniston

This fringe trend may remind you of peace, love and whatever else comes to mind about Woodstock (hey, my husband’s brothers were actually there)! Then again, if you’re in the younger generation, you may feel like it’s about time you get to enjoy this element and still be in style! I looked through our closets and came up with fringed wearable items in the last post (here). So for this post I wanted to show the variety of necklaces that fall into the fringe or tassel theme.

50’s Outfit: Okay, laugh all you want at the snow in the background, but it’s not springtime in the Rockies without a blizzard (or two)! Luckily the roads are warm enough, so it doesn’t usually last long.

60’s Outfit: We went with a single tassel necklace for Nancy’s outfit, but the great thing about these, are they work great for layering the necklaces in groups!

70’s Outfit: Mom made this tassel out of embroidery floss and a lobster claw jewelry clasp—thus she can attach it to many different cords!

      You’re welcome Nicole!

  • Lorena Lorena

You’re all stepping up the game ! Great work done with the fringe series.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Lorena!! I really consider fringe quite a fun embellishment right now—for some reason, it just makes me smile!!

  • Lee Gaitan

Such great looks, from funky and fun to the more classic tassels. I love the beaded ones!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Lee!! It’s a little embarrassing to admit that I think I have almost 5 tassel necklaces (in fact, I’m wearing one today)—but this beaded one is my most colorful one!!

  • Jodie, your blazer. Your necklace. How cool do you look, all rock n roll, super starrer you!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Rock n roll is definitely out of the box for me….but little by little, I’ll be as jaunty as you one of these days!!

  • Love these necklaces. The mini, colorful fringes are so cute

Snow in May? Eeeeek. I don’t think I could take it.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Mom is quite the Martha Stewart!!
The snow was actually in April (the 16-17 and 29-30th to be exact–not that I’m keeping track or anything—I hold no grudges….arg. We actually had 80 degree weather yesterday—I always say our weather is bipolar)….but I’m surprised at your response—don’t you guys get late snows too? I would think Canada would be worse?

      • Ha! Nope. Canada is very BIG and has many different climates. If you look on a map where I live is probably further south than you thought. Canada comes quite far down south below the “regular” border when you are in Ontario. Niagara Falls is only an 1.5 hours from where I live which is a very popular wine region. We don’t have mountains here, we have the Niagara Escarpment with its own little biosphere so we avoid bad weather associated with mountains. Today it is 80 or 25 C. A great day for sleeping in the hammock outside! When I lived in Alberta we once got snow in JUNE!!! Ugh. Not fun. But that was Alberta and the Rockies. When we lived in Victoria we rarely saw snow and it stayed temperate and warm enough for flowers to bloom all year long. Truly BC has the best weather in Canada.

  • Again, love how you are subtly incorporating this trend. I am loving everyone’s necklaces!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Tara—I do wonder if it’s office appropriate? Maybe a small necklace? Or we could go with the rationalization that it makes the work wear non boring, right?

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

Great assortment of fringe necklaces and I can’t pick a favorite! I have so many fringe necklaces, its going to be bad if they ever go out of style!! Also, love your entire outfit, Jodie! One of my faves on you!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Oh my gosh—I feel the same way (kinda how I never see the bubble necklaces anymore—do I get rid of it or wear it anyways?)
      Thanks for the love Carrie!!

  • Rosemond

Love the fringe trend on you three lovely ladies! I can’t decide which one I like best, and yes eek! snow in the background!

    • Jodie Filogomo

They say March & April are our snowiest months—and this years it definitely holds true! But if you’re a Denverite, the next statement is “we need the moisture”—so it’s all good. At least it was 70 degrees yesterday!!
Thanks for your input Rosemond!! It’s nice to like all of ours and not have a favorite!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

You gals are so creative. I just bought a tassel necklace on clearance today at Kohl’s, so I guess I’m getting in the game. Ha, ha. – Amy
    http://www.stylingrannymama.com

    • Jodie Filogomo

      How perfect….what color/style is yours?

      • Amy D. Christensen

It has a long gold chain followed by some sparkly beading, then a “rock” that’s sort of a sienna or rust color, then the tassel is the same gold as the chain of the necklace. I’ll have to style it on my blog in the future. I always feel like I am a million miles behind all you beautiful bloggers who have been doing this for a little while. Ha, ha.

        • Jodie Filogomo

It’s sounds beautiful—I can’t wait to see it!!
I know that feeling of feeling behind, but it’s not true. I think the advantage of blogging, is that you can “publish” the new styles right away, but I don’t think that the “real” population is always on board until it’s been around awhile!
I also wrestle with the fact, that I want women to use what’s in their closet without always buying new everything—it is a hard balance, right?

  • They all are so pretty. I was out shopping last weekend and saw a bunch of these in a little boutique. Sometimes I wish I was more of a jewelry fan when it comes to necklaces. At school I can’t wear them long because they always get caught in my little girls’ hair.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I can totally relate to that Michelle—when I was a dentist, I certainly couldn’t wear them long either (for some strange reason, patients frowned upon being hit in the face with them when I was working on them—ha ha)! But they are a fun accessory for me now!!
      Thanks so much for commenting!

  • CathyLynchLawdanski

Lots of choices! Nancy’s is my favorite – classic!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Cathy!! I think I bought her 5 different colors, so you’ll see them quite a bit!

  • Very nice casual looks all around! Your shoes are so pretty and I like how your mom can change out the cord on her necklace. So cool. I am loving tassel necklaces and have a few in my collection. I really love how they elevate basic looks effortlessly.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Me too—it’s funny because since I have a couple, I figure everyone else does too—it seems like they are everywhere!!

  • I have been loving all the tassel necklaces the bloggers are wearing…all three of yours included! I better hurry up and jump in that bandwagon before it leaves town!
    http://whosaprettygirl.com

    • Jodie Filogomo

Funny, girl—Nancy always says she gets into a trend right when it’s on the outs (although I’m changing that for her)! The nice thing about these necklaces are they are totally inexpensive (right up your alley!!)

  • PetiteOver40

You look ready to rock, Jodie! I love the pops of color, especially in your outfit! Your shoes and jacket are a perfect match! And, well done on pulling off a graphic tee in this look! I see graphic tees out and about but I’m not sure if I’d wear them. Seeing how you’ve paired yours with a pink jacket and feminine pink shoes, I could see wearing something similar on myself! Thanks for the refreshing ideas!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Sherry—I think you are too much like me. When I first started seeing the graphic tees, I was like “no way” & “how juvenile”—and now look at me! Although I really want to get one with my blog name on it–and fitted!!

  • Laura

I made a few tassel necklaces last summer. They are so fun! Love the idea of your mom’s and how she can switch it up! Now I want some tassel earrings or a bracelet!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Ahhhh….so you’re crafty, too? I’m showing mom with some “fringe” earrings on Saturday—but I think I’d like more of a yarn version (her’s are metal). Maybe I should DIY it—-great idea!

  • Cute, cute and cute!
Yep…this is the perfect way to dip your toe into a trend without looking too tasseled.
    Perfect for the fringe-shy.
    Great idea!

    • Jodie Filogomo

And the longer necklaces are quite fun in my opinion. I could never wear them professionally (patients frowned upon the necklace hitting them in the face—not sure why?–ha ha) so I’m making up for lost time!!
Thanks for the continued support—I really look forward to your comments!!

  • I bought a fringe necklace last year – it is a great way to wear the fringe trend!

      Thanks Nicole!!

  • Queen of Rods

I’m a big fan of your jacket, shoes, and jewelry. The jacket color reads as lilac on my screen and that shade looks terrific on you 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

Funny how computer monitors can make colors look different (but I guess it’s no different than different lighting)—my jacket & shoes are more pinkish in person. But the jacket is definitely a pinkish purple!! Thanks so much!!

  • Ooh this is nice! Love the fringed necklaces and Jodie I LOVE the shoes so much! Gemma x
    http://www.jacquardflower.uk

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Gemma—these are some of my favorite shoes—to me they are half bad-ass (the studs & extreme pointiness) and half girly (the pink)!
Sometimes I laugh because I feel like most of my shoes are my favorites!! It’s a terrible problem to have—ha ha.
At least I’m willing to admit that I have a problem (but I didn’t say I’d do anything about it!!)
