Covered Perfectly for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: The Smart Version

We were gifted these shirts from Covered Perfectly, but I was not paid for writing my posts. All of our feelings are honest and true!

Quote of the day: “Adaptability is about the powerful difference between adapting to cope and adapting to win.” Max McKeown

In this next episode of the Covered Perfectly shirts, I thought I’d try to take them to work. If you’re wearing a jacket or cardigan in the workplace, then you realize that your shirt underneath it gets very little exposure. Therefore, why not have it be soft and comfortable? And as for my personal opinion, I always like having at least a short sleeve shirt on under my blazers, so perspiration doesn’t get onto the jacket itself. For these reasons, our Covered Perfectly shirts were a match made in heaven for these outfits! You can see how I styled them for a dress up day here. And a couple specials from the company for my readers are at the bottom of the post.

50’s Outfit: Even an opened shoulder shirt can be appropriate for work, since the jacket covers up the revealing parts! Can you tell that my trousers are actually jean material?

The 60’s thoughts on her wrap shirt: Nancy loves the color & shape of her shirt. There is a lot of material in the front of this style, and it tends to hang open. Therefore, I had mom alter it to take away some of the extra material to allow it to lie flatter to the body. This change in my opinion, makes it look more flattering on Nancy. You can see the difference in the model’s shirt here. Of course the extra material may not be as much of a problem if you are taller….Nancy is 5’0″.

  • Amy D. Christensen

I like the look of all of these outfits. The shirts work perfectly under the jackets in each case. Great styles! – Amy

Maybe one reason I love jackets so much? I can hide a variety of issues under them!!! Ha ha!!

  • Comfy is soooo important – especially when you’ve got a jacket on at work! Thanks for joining us at #FridayFrivolity!

    cute & little

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Kileen!! I love these pants on Nancy—although I’m not sure she feels that comfortable in them!

  • I’ve been intrigued by Covered Perfectly shirts and almost ordered one the other day. I’ll have to have another look!

I like the colors of the shirts!

One of the nice things I’ve noticed between these shirts and a normal t-shirt from the bigger stores, are they tend to be roomier—-so they aren’t so clingy in the wrong places. Also I feel that the fabric is very soft and they come out of the dryer without wrinkles!

  • Rosemond

I so love the color of the deep purple shirt! And love the cutout shoulders on the top, it definitely makes it look so stylish and current. Looking gorgeous ladies!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Rosemond!! I’m really liking this open shoulder shirt too—so much so that I bought one for each Nancy & mom so we could do a series on them!!

  • You all look great!
Nancy’s top is much better altered (your mum is a great asset to the style team!) and your top it totally appropriate for work. Even with it’s sexy shoulders.
Your mum is radiant in red and that combination (minus the pattern) was my school uniform.
    I loved my red cardigans!
    Great looks.

      Thanks Samantha!!
I must say, that I’ve come to see that alterations are such a key factor in feeling good in your clothes!
Mom has taught me in these last couple of years to do most of them myself; however, Nancy’s shirt was quite tricky—-so I was glad to let her work her magic!
You’re the second person who’s stated that grey & red were their school colors!!

  • PetiteOver40

You all look so put-together and smart! I really love your necklace and blazer, Jodie!

      Thanks tons Sherry!!

  • I love Covered Perfectly’s shirts – they are the softest fabric. The bright blue of Nancy’s top really caught my eye; it is so pretty. The alteration worked out well, too. I really like denim trousers and they pair with your jacket wonderfully. You mom looks very pretty in this bright red. Great looks all around!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Jennie–you’re right—they are very soft…I can’t believe I didn’t comment on that!!

  • You girls are always so stylish and downright fabulous! I love your styling tips! Thanks for sharing them.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks—it is fun to me, to try to make the same things look different!!

  • No matter how much changes, it all stay the same, at least that’s the way I see fashion, then again, I’m a fan of basic black. lol 😉 Popped over from Elena’s #BlogShareLearn and as always, glad to be here. 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

You’re quite right Donna! I mean there’s only so much you can do in order to cover our bodies, right?
But since we are visual animals, I feel like we’re always sending a message with our outerwear– (besides I love a good debate)—so I have to ask why do you love black so much?
      Thanks for stopping by!!

  • sue

Oh I love all the looks but in particular that beautiful statement necklace. It really is a great piece to have and will dress up many outfits. Love it. Sue from Sizzling Towards Sixty.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I couldn’t agree more Sue—-I don’t think I ever leave the house without a necklace (or scarf)—to me an outfit feels so plain otherwise (i’m sure I’m exaggerating somewhat).
But I love this necklace too—it’s so fun!

  • Your mom looks stunning in red. I love all the accessories on each of you. That BooHoo blazer, excellent find.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t that a great color for my mom?
Thanks for popping over Michelle—as for the BooHoo blazer–I just love finding good deals. My husband calls it a gift that i have–ha ha!

  • Bernadette Laganella

Very nice job styling the shirts. I particularly like the neckline on Mom’s shirt.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t is so flattering? I’ve seen quite a few of these shirts on other bloggers, and they all seem to look nice!!

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

Such a great review, I love all of the tops from Covered Perfectly and each is a little different. I love the statement necklace with your purple top! The flowered pants in the 60’s outfit look great with the blue! I need some floral pants! So fun!

      Thank you so much Carrie!!
I think Nancy still feels a little self conscious in those flowered pants, but I agree with you—i think they look great!!

  • CathyLynchLawdanski

Love your mom’s outfit. She looks stunning in red!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t it such a nice top on her? Thanks for saying so!!

  • dan

We are having the perfect time for wearing a shirt and a jacket at the moment. And it’s exactly what I wore today …
You look beautiful! I also like the scarf you are wearing on your head … very cute!
What a nice necklace you have chosen for your mom!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Dan!
With my unruly curly hair, I’ve finally been trying out different ways to pull it back—for some reason this reminds me of the 1970’s, so I wasn’t sure if it really worked!!

  • You all look absolutely wonderful! Love how the outfits are styled! =)

    – Cielo

    Mermaid in Heels

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Cielo!!

  • First of all, you all look stunning. Nancy’s look is very similar to what I’m wearing today. Your review of Covered Perfectly got me to look at the website and I was so happy to find out that the company is local to me. How fabulous is that. I am definitely ordering a top or two and I will be using your discount code.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Gemma—I really appreciate the time you take to always put in a good word!

  • Let me first say, you look amazing in those thrifted pants! You should have taken a booty shot. Just sayin’. Great styling job on all three looks. It’s a close call, but I have to go with your mom’s as my favorite. Why? Because those are my HS colors!
    http://whosaprettygirl.com

    • Jodie Filogomo

I just wore those pants again today—they really are a great pair with nice stretch & a little flare to them! As for my booty—you’ll see it in an upcoming post–ha ha!
How cute you still like your HS colors—mine were orange & brown and for some reason every time I style them together it gives me the willies!!
