Lace Extenders for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: Under a Blouse

Quote of the day: “You and I are essentially infinite choice makers. In every moment of our existence, we are in that field of all possibilities where we have access to an infinity of choices.” Deepak Chopra

The idea of this lace extender came to me from another blogger, Cyndi Spivey (see her blog here). It was originally shown on the company’s website hanging out under a plaid shirt (like this)—so there came my idea to style it under a button up blouse. I added variety to the mix by pulling out three different prints for the three of us. I got a plaid, Nancy got a animal print and mom got stripes! I also tried to be more diverse by putting a cardigan over my blouse, having Nancy’s blouse go solo and putting a tank under mom’s belted blouse. You can see this same piece styled under sweaters (here).

50’s Outfit: Yes, I have a pair of distressed jeans, but when it’s cold I wear tights under them!

60’s Outfit: Since Nancy’s blouse is relatively long, you just get a glimpse of the extender from the side! It’s like it’s playing peek-a-boo!

Thanks Osy!! I tried to show a couple different ways to play with the lace extender—hopefully something for everyone!

  • Audrey at Munofore

I actually have been planning on sewing something similar on to some of my shirts. I like the look. Thanks for sharing on #FridayFrivolity

I’ve really enjoyed my extender…and if you sew it on and don’t like it…you can always take it off!!

I was surprised at how many women already had these pieces in their possession! I think they can add some flair to the items already in our closet!

  • Love the lace extender! So classy.

Thanks Shannon—that really means a lot coming from a younger woman like yourself!

  • I really like the juxtaposition of your lace extender with your plaid shirt – great idea! Thanks for linking up, Jodie, and have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks Jennie–I thought that would be interesting!

  • Nicole Mölders

Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. I think I need to make me one!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It would certainly be pretty easy to make!!

I can’t say no to a great lace extender…I have a bunch! I’m loving the extenders styled under the button downs and I love your distressed jeans too!

That’s funny—-I was thinking since they were separate that I only needed one! I’m mistaken?

      • Debbie Stinedurf

I have two for under tops; one taupe/beige and one black, but I’d also like to get white. I’ve also got a bunch for under tunic dresses and skirts. I have several colors of those and the extender materials vary; chiffon, lace and even tulle. The cool thing about those is you can throw a button down or sweater over them and they work as a dress on their own too.

  • Another great way to wear these…so fun!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

I haven’t tried mine with a blouse yet, but had one in mind to try soon. One of my favorite ways I’ve worn a lace extender to was to bring a more feminine style to my Football Team Spirit t-shirt… Just for fun, here’s a link to my Pinterest picture ,https://www.pinterest.com/pin/204632376796246155/

Tracey—-that’s the best idea yet!! Thanks (but you’re wearing the wrong team—go broncos–ha ha!!)

  • Rosemond

What a cute idea I’d never even seen before. Thanks for sharing!

    • Jodie Filogomo

When I saw them, my first thought was –this would be a great addition for older women’s closets to add some interest to some of the stuff they already have!! That’s why I was so surprised when my mom didn’t like them (the story is in the first post)!

  • I’m not much a fan of extenders personally but I do like it peeping out from the sides of Nancy’s top. Peekaboo. I see you.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Now that I’ve read your blog more, I’m guessing they are too, maybe, girly for you? You strike me as more of a rebel in your outfits!! Am I right or do I need more insight?

      • LOL I’d love to be seen as a rebel, Jodie 🙂 not so much too girly but I’d wear it as a top, with a bandeau, and not as an upper body slip, you know?

        • Jodie Filogomo

          Now that’s creative Sheela!!

  • I just might have to get one of those lace extenders. They are great for zhuzhing up an outfit, for sure!

And it just has spaghetti straps so you can even wear it under your sleeveless tops!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

Cute outfits! Yours is great for the transition from winter to spring. Nancy’s and Mom’s are great for work. I’m seeing a ton of lace in the stores now, so your lace extenders are very timely! Thanks for sharing.

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s very true about seeing lace now—of course, it’s spring(ish). Since this one is spaghetti straps, I could even wear it in the summer under a boring tank top!! Thanks for giving me that thought!!
