Leather Skirt for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: Paired with Floral

Leather skirt for the 50's, 60's, & 70's.

Quote of the day: “The only man who makes no mistakes is the man who never does anything.” Theodore Roosevelt

Even if you don’t happen to have a black leather skirt in your closet, these outfits can certainly be copied with a fabric black skirt. My goal in this set of series was to add the dichotomy of femininity to the skirt since leather tends to be perceived as a masculine material. I started with lace (here) in the last post, and am continuing with floral patterns in this one.

50’s Leather Skirt: I love this jacket that I picked up at a second hand store! It’s quite lightweight so I added a long sleeve t-shirt under it along with my very tall boots!!

70’s Leather Skirt: I realize that I’m breaking a “rule” here by pairing these taller ankle boots with a skirt—sure they break up the leg line, but why do we always have to look like our legs are super long?

      Thanks!!

I have several leather skirts and love wearing them to the office with feminine pieces. I love that we would think leather is for the young but it really has no age boundary as you ladies showcased here.

Thank you for being a part of TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you soon!

  • Lately I have been thinking more about adding a leather skirt to my wardrobe and now is probably a great time to find one with all of the winter sales. I like the different styling options you presented here – y’all look fantastic and are totally rocking these leather skirts! I love those boots your mom is wearing – they look fab with the skirt. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

      Thanks Jennie!

Love the outfits, and yes your mom rocks the boots! I’m not sure how I feel about a leather skirt, since I have never owned one. I’d be concerned about flexibility…sitting down, if the fabric is too stiff. But it is definitely a great look.

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s a good point Amy! My skirt seems fine with sitting down…I’ve never really noticed any issues. I know when my mom made her own skirt, she made it slightly big because of this, but found it wasn’t needed. Thus she ended up altering it smaller! I’m sure it depends on the quality of material and possibly the cut of the skirt. Both mom’s & Nancy’s have a kick pleat in the back…so that helps!!

  • Love a leather skirt!

  • Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. You prove that leather is ageless. Great looks!

  • Debbie Stinedurf

I love the ankle boots with the skirt on your mom. I so agree, who cares if you’re breaking up the leg line if that’s what you want to wear?! I am in love with your floral jacket…it’s gorgeous. You all look fabulous!

Thanks Debbie! I know for my mom, it’s hard to “break the rules” after you’ve been following them for 70+ years (that’s her excuse, at least–ha ha)! But hopefully I’ll get her to think differently in these next 30 years!! (she’s so darn healthy she’ll probably live to 100!)

  • Floral with leather is a fantastic combo! Great idea to soften the leather look. I love, love your boots. They’re great on you.

Thanks for sharing with us on My Refined Style.

  • Have to agree with Sheela – the ankle boots are da bomb! But I also love Nancy’s jacket – wow, that’s so striking with the skirt. And the colour of your boots is just so divine. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with for part 3!

Glad you like mom’s boots—it was one of those (many) times that I heard the saying “I would never wear that…” (you know, those divas, we talked about…)!
It’s probably the only times I “win” the fights with mom—as I always tell her—it’s my blog, so I want you to wear this. Ha ha!
