Silver Shoes for the 50, 60 & 70 year old women.

Silver Shoes for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: With White Pants

Quote of the day: “I see my body as an instrument, rather than an ornament.” Alanis Morisette

Since I’m the only one who had to buy the showcased item for this series, I figured there could be many more of you with silver shoes already in your closet! I would consider silver as a neutral—thus really, it should go with anything, although I’m betting many of you might consider silver more formal. Since I wanted to show that silver footwear could just as well be fine to wear casually, I put us all in pants for all of this series. To begin, I pulled out the white jeans. My rationale is that white and silver look very similar from afar, so this would be an easy project for most of us! The variety is in our types of silver shoes. My open toed sandals are flats, Nancy’s open toed sandals have a small heel, and mom’s silver shoes are a closed toe flat.

50’s Outfit: I knitted my sweater a couple years ago—it’s one of my faves since it’s such a colorful print! I picked these sandals because they have memory foam in the sole! They are quite comfortable, but they still don’t have much arch support so they are not the best for an entire day of walking.

60’s Outfit: The sun embellished tee is one of Nancy’s favorites! Her sandals were actually from her square dancing days, thus are very comfortable.

70’s Outfit: Mom’s tee says “I’m not going gray, I’m going platinum.” She considers wearing a t-shirt & pearls as confusion instead of stylish, but I think I’m wearing her down! Her sandals may not be open toed, but since they are a crochet weave, they still feel cool for the warmer days!

Do you need a pair of silver flat sandals to make your summer footwear sparkle?

  • Kathleen McDermott

Must add these thoughts – Nancy’s gorgeous ☀️ T with her pale yellow sweater is brilliant. She looks stunning in pastels and should wear them as often as possible!

    • Jodie Filogomo

This is one of Nancy’s favorite shirts and even though in person, it’s gotten a little dingy, and stained–she’s not willing to give it up! But I love layering it under other pieces—and this sweatshirt works great, I think!!

  • Kathleen McDermott

Everything to love in these outfits. First, I adore silver shoes and sandals and have at least 15-20 of each. I adore white pants and they look superb with pastels and soft colors. Silver shoes are the perfect touch of moonlight with these outfits. LOVE your soft floral sweater, Nancy’s sun T, and Charlotte’s pearls with her T – plus the jacquard design in her slacks.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Wow, Kathleen!! I would love to see your closet! The amount of shoes you have has got to be as many as mom & I combined!!!!! 🙂

  • I love silver shoes! I have a pair of Circus by Sam Edelman footbed sandals in silver that a favorite of mine for summer! They are so neutral that I often rely on them when I can’t find other shoes to match! I love your colorful hand knitted sweater! So adorable! And your silver slide sandals, too! Nancy’s shoes have a wonderful vintage feel to them! And your mom is certainly rocking the tee shirt and pearls look. Not confused at all. Just fabulous!

      What a great comment Shelbee!!
It’s funny how once you buy a certain item, you start noticing it so much more on other people—I’ve seen more silver shoes lately!! And you’re so right—they are a perfect neutral for any color!!

  • A trio of white pants — great!
I bought some silver fauxkenstocks by Union Bay last year and yes, they are a neutral in my color book.
Thanks for linking with 52 Pick-me-up!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Do you make up words too (fauxenstocks?) . My husband always says I’m the worst to play scrabble with, but you might challenge that!!

    • Ah, Anne! Fauxkenstocks! There is a word I have been needing recently! I keep just calling them footbed sandals, but it’s so blah. Yours is a much better word! Thank you. I will be stealing it!

  • Love how you showcased shoes with varying levels of formality, clearly silver can work for any occasion!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I probably didn’t have any in my closet because I considered them only for dressy occasions—but after seeing quite a few bloggers wear them this winter—i’ve changed my mind!
      Thanks for reading Tara!!

  • Silver IS definitely the perfect summer neutral…and goes with everything!
    Perfect with white trousers.
Get your Mum in her Tee and pearls….go girl!! She looks so cool.
Please tell Nancy to send me those vintage looking dancing shoes IMMEDIATELY :oP

P.S don’t even get me started on how impressed I am at your knitting.
P.P.S You can buy foot-petals that stick inside shoes (or sandals with a wide strap) to support your arch a little.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Hey…that’s a great idea Samantha for support for my sandals—I never think of those add ons, because I have orthodics—I just (obviously) can’t wear them with sandals!
      Thanks for the love!!

  • First…love your hair! Second…OMG! I can’t believe you knit that sweater. #WOW Third…love the silver shoes paired with white. I realized my post for Thursday is also white pants with silver shoes. #twinning

PS I didn’t get an email with your post today. Hmm…

    • Jodie Filogomo

1-Thank you—I’ve been trying to get that unruliness out of my face lately!!
2-I love knitting and am especially drawn to the colorful printed ones….they take a ton of time, but then I get to use all of the single/couple skeins of yard I’ve accumulated!
3-It’s a fun color combo—and of course you’re wearing it too—-that’s because you’re very fashionable!!!!

I wonder why you didn’t get the email….technology is quite perplexing at times. I know I got my test email (at least I think I did). Tell me again on Thursday if you remember…I’ll be diligent about checking for my test one!

  • You are all adorable and I love silver shoes anytime of year! Such great picks you shared also!! thanks for stopping by my blog today!

      Thanks Valerie!
I first saw some silver brogues on a couple bloggers this winter —I may have to add to my shoe collection!!

  • Silver footwear is a nice unexpected pop of shine for a casual outfit as you three have so fabulously shown. I don’t have any silver shoes but I do have a couple in bronze that do the same.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I guess I haven’t had any metallic shoes in my possession for many years. Now that I’m loving the silver ones, I was just thinking about gold.
Hmmm and now you bring up the possibility of bronze!
It is a nice shine….maybe that’s why I like it so much! Great observation Rena!

  • You are all wearing white pants so well! And I really like the silver shoes with the white! Looking forward to seeing what you’ll come up with next!

I noticed that you are on stumpleupon and followed you there and stumbled/liked the post.

I followed you back on stumble upon—I use it occasionally but I’m sure I’m not optimizing the site. Do you use it much and how? It always seems to take me awhile to figure out each social media site…and then I have to decide how much time to devote to each!!

      • I just started using stumble upon recently. I try to stumble/add a few articles per week (like I did with yours). And every day I try to browse/stumble through my interests and read and like articles for about 10 – 15 minutes.

        • Jodie Filogomo

Wow…you’re good. I might have to pick your brain more about this in the future, if that’s okay?

          • Sure. I’m by no means an expert, but I’m happy to share what I’ve learned… 🙂

  • White pants can be so tricky but you are all making them look so easy!

Thanks Amy! I am such a sucker for white pants and I guess I never thought of them as tricky!!

  • I love this theme! It’s so perfect for summer!

    Jenna from http://www.visionsofvogue.com

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Jenna!! I’m really becoming quite addicted to them…I think I’ve worn them at least once a week for the past month!!
      Do you have silver shoes?

  • Terri Webster Schrandt

Metallics are great! I had a pair of bronze birks that I loved. They finally wore out!

    • Jodie Filogomo

That must mean it’s time to get some more, right Terri?

  • PetiteOver40

I agree with you, Jodie! Silver shoes are like a neutral. They are a little “blingier” than, say, beige shoes, but they go with just as many things, if not more! Love the looks you’ve put together and I’m still marveling that you knitted that adorable sweater yourself! You are so talented!!!

    – Sherry
    http://www.petiteover40.com

    • Jodie Filogomo

So I think I just need you to be part of the blog Sherry!! You fit in so well and share my posts so much!!
When I started knitting I was always so drawn to the colorful patterned ones —I still am, but I also realize they take a lot of time to knit!!
shhh…don’t tell, but I wore the scarf over it because there’s a mistake on the front part (I was running out of the white for the flower petals and started using a different one that ended up standing out more. When I finally realized it I didn’t want to undo it all, so I just kept going)—I don’t think you notice it as much in person, but I was afraid it’d show too much in the pictures!!

  • Laura

I used to have a pair of silver flats I wore so much they had to be thrown away. I think I need a replacement pair now after seeing all your fab silver shoes!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Now that’s getting your money’s worth Laura!! I didn’t realize how versatile they were until I started putting these posts together!!

  • Lorena Lorena

I love silver with white ! I think that silver shoes add a certain glam to any look.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I totally think you’re right Lorena! I’ve been finding them so, so versatile. They just go with every color—eeek…I may have to buy a silver pair for winter!!

  • Bernadette Laganella

Jodie, I told you about my shoe habit. I not only have silver but also gold. The white jeans look hip with the silver.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Ahhh Bernadette….that could be a blog post series in the future!! Gold shoes would be just as versatile as silver, right?
Maybe you should be one of my models?

      • Bernadette Laganella

Ahh Jodie that is so nice but I just like reading your posts.

        • Jodie Filogomo

Well thanks for being such a loyal reader Bernadette—I really appreciate it!!

  • White and silver make a lovely pairing. Great post. Gemma x
    http://www.jacquardflower.uk

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Gemma! It was my first choice since I’m such a sucker for white jeans!

  • Mother Daughter

I like all three outfits and the shoes. I will need to look for my silver sandals. lol

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’ve really found that the silver sandals look so great with any color. I have this feeling I’ll be buying a pair of silver shoes that I can wear this winter too!!

      • Mother Daughter

I would have to really step out of my comfort zone to wear silver in the winter. lol I am a creature of habit so it is hard to tell how many pairs of black shoes I have. I do have a number of animal print shoes though for winter.

        • Jodie Filogomo

Well consider it my goal to get your out of your comfort zone!!
It’s good to have one or two black pair, but I’m thinking you need a little variety??
Animal print is good! No other colors?

          • Mother Daughter

O yes I have brown and red that I can think of. I am kind of old fashioned I even have penny loafers, brown, black and cordovan. lol

          • Jodie Filogomo

And those penny loafers I bet will be back in style before you know it!!

  • I’ll come back and write a proper response later, rushing off for my photo shoot now but I wanted to say that you’re not alone, my friend. I would’ve had to purchase a pair of silver shoes myself too 🙂 xoxo

p/s I was thinking, how do you feel about a B&W theme?

    • Jodie Filogomo

Well, I have to admit, I really like how my silver sandals seem to go with everything….I’m actually considering that I might need a winter pair!
      I can do B&W !

  • Judy Gramith

What a lovely variety of silver shoes. You all look great!
I agree that silver, gold, sequins and all things “blingy” have evolved into the mainstream of daily wear. They are “neutral” in that way. We don’t consider gold jewelry more dressy than silver jewelry and either can be worn at any time and with anything.
Your sweater takes center stage. I LOVE the happy, colorful pattern!! You’re quite a talented knitter Jodie!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Judy!! I really love knitting because it’s so creative yet there are plenty of patterns available (so I don’t have to come up with my own!). This was a Rowan pattern from about 5 years ago.
It’s funny because I know that the silver & gold are the same in dressiness, yet there are times I still consider gold more dressy (I wonder why?)
Now that I have my silver sandals, I really like how they work with almost any color scheme….I might have to get a pair for winter!
Thanks so much for reading my blog!

      • Judy Gramith

I have that same prejudice about gold ;perhaps because the actual metal is more expensive?
Actually I have a prejudice about all things blingy in general. I continue to see it as a “dressy only.”

        • Jodie Filogomo

It is so hard when the rules change, don’t you think? Some of them are easier for me than others, but like you, I think blingy as dressy. Then I have to consciously remember, that I need to change it up and be more open!!
Just the other day I mixed my gold & silver together—-I kept looking at it and thinking, oops….but by the end of the day it seemed more normal!!
