Silver Shoes for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: With Pink Pants

Quote of the day: “Man is not old until regrets start taking the place of dreams.” John Barrymore

The final episode of this silver shoes series was a puzzler for me. I felt like the silver shoes could easily pair with any colored pants, so what did we all have in our closet, that I could use? I finally decided on pink, even though our shades of pink are quite different. My pink jeans are a very light blush, Nancy’s pink pants are a bright fuchsia, and mom’s pink pants are a classic pastel version. You can see the other renditions with the exact same shoes with white jeans (here–where you can also see the shoes in more detail) and black pants (here). Do you have a favorite pairing for the silver shoes with other colors? Tell me in the comments below and I’ll style that  most popular three colors for the next silver shoes series!!

50’s Outfit: I look at this outfit now, and wonder what was I thinking? I wanted to keep it light with the pastels, but then thought it was too “girly” so I added the denim blazer. And I have no idea about that whitish spot on my teeth—I blame the camera!!

60’s Outfit: Even thought the shiny silver shoes look almost whitish from afar, I also associate them with grey—that’s why I chose this blouse to style for Nancy’s outfit.

70’s Outfit: Of course, you’ve never seen a jacket like this before, because mom hand made it herself. As I’ve said before, she gives Martha Stewart a run for her money!

Now here’s some silver shoes that won’t show off your toes if that’s your preference: (I’m in love with those silver sneakers!!)

  • Kathleen McDermott

Again, the silver shoes look great with each of these lovely outfits. Love all the shades of pink. I love the soft blues paired with blush in your outfit, the soft greys with Nancy’s pretty pants and Charlotte’s fabulous jacket/buttons (and bracelet).

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Kathleen!!

  • I love those vibrant pink pants. They really make a statement

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Michelle—aren’t they so fun? I’m not sure Nancy really likes them as much as I do, but she’s a good sport!!

  • Lorena Lorena

I’m actually looking for the perfect silver flats all over again as mine *almost* fell apart from so much wear. Great choices.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t that such a great feeling though? I love it when my shoes fall apart because I feel like I really got my money’s worth—and it’s the perfect excuse to go shopping!
Can’t wait to see what you get!!

  • Again, you have come up with a great style idea and all three of you look great even though quite different. Did you realize that you are all wearing a version of this year’s Pantone colors? Thanks for joining the Up, Down, All-Around link-up.

    • Jodie Filogomo

How funny, Rena—I totally forgot about Pantone’s colors!! That was definitely luck!!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

Metallic flats really go with everything and I have a pair of pointed toe flats in silver that I have worn a lot. This season I added metallic slip on sneakers for a more sporty vibe. Haven’t taken photos much of them yet, but they are Clark’s and very comfy during my 6 wks of pain!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s funny how I’m so drawn to the silver shoes lately!! Glad to know, I’m not the only one!!

  • I know this post highlights silver shoes, but for me it’s really about the pink pants. I think this is a great illustration of the many faces of pink. Blush functions like a neutral, pastel pink is soft and pairs beautifully with other pastels, and hot pink really pops against gray. And now, after reading this, I see that any shade can pair with silver. Thanks for that! I love the frosty feel of your look with the icy pink and sparkling silver. It makes me want to try a vintage-style silver pump with my blush tulle skirt!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Oh yeah—that would be perfect with your tulle skirt!!
Don’t you just love pink? I’m so glad there are such interesting colors for jeans nowadays (or else I was living under a rock before, which could definitely be the case)
I just wore my silver sandals with my lilac jeans the other day—of course, lilac is very much like pink—so it was a no-brainer!!

  • Everyone looks great! I am so in love with Nancy’s outfit…the shade of pink and the print are right up my alley 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Tara!! I think Nancy’s pants are a great standout—she’s getting more used to them, but I’m not sure she wears them much outside the blog pictures!

  • I very rarely wear pants which is why I gave it the rating that I did however everyone looks great.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I love the fact you rarely wear pants!! I keep trying to fight against the casualness of society, but so many older women say to me that they never wear skirts & dresses!
I think I went with all pants for this series only because I wasn’t sure I’d wear my silver sandals with a skirt because they were so flat—but I should try it!!
      Thanks for reading this one!!

  • Your Mom’s craftiness always delights me.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t she quite amazing—-almost like you (although you excel in the painting, decorating and cooking realms too!!)

  • Bernadette Laganella

Jodie, I just bought a pair of pink jeans. This is a way out of my comfort zone color for jeans. Definitely will wear them with my silver shoes. Great saying.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Hooray for pink jeans!!! Bright pink or light pink jeans Bernadette?? And the silver shoes are a great start!!

    • Bernadette Laganella

Very light pink like the ones you have on

      • Jodie Filogomo

How fun!!! I’m not sure if you remember, but I wore my pink jeans here: http://bit.ly/1UjeV5K. I love them with the striped top, but in retrospect, I think I would’ve like the outfit better with my beige shoes. You’ll also see the same jeans in an upcoming post in July—with a green top and black accessories (including black sandals)!!
I think you’ll like them more than you thought!! Good for you for trying something new!!

  • Queen of Rods

I was in love with your Mom’s jacket even before I read that she created it. What a treasure!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t she something?? It’s so colorful and definitely one of a kind—what more could you ask for??

  • Laura

Wow! Your mom’s jacket is so cute! I have a pair of bright pink pants and blush jeans, I need to try them both with silver shoes! Typically I wear black or nude.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’ll tell mom you liked her jacket—she is quite amazing!!
Can’t wait to see it if you try the silver shoes with your pink!! I actually think the silver really goes with almost everything. I’ve been wearing the heck out of mine lately!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

Your mom is so talented! What a cute jacket! I actually like your outfit, but I’m not loving the silver shoes with the pink. Maybe that’s why I had a hard time with the white. It might just be my own need for contrast, but I still like the black with silver best. Maybe try some other darker colors…maybe for fall like a maroon or navy….but of course then you might not be styling sandals or open toed shoes….You are always so good at coming up with different ideas. I wonder how silver would work with orange or yellow or even red…like a bright red. Or what about the silver shoes with regular denim…light wash or dark wash. I kind of like that idea! I’m rambling again…sorry! You just get my thinker going! Ha, ha. – Amy
    http://www.stlyingrannymama.com

    • Jodie Filogomo

I like the contrast too since most of the time I don’t match my shoes to my outfit! I love the idea of the silver with denim—and I could really show differences with different washes like you said!
So let me ramble—-silver is probably considered cool (as opposed to gold being warm), so maybe it’d look better with cool colors—maybe that’s why you don’t like it with the pink? So the greens & blues might be better? Interesting….

  • Rosemond

I love the sheer happiness of silver shoes. And pairing it with the pink looks so springtime-y. Lovely ladies, you’ve inspired me to get some silver shoes for summer!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’ve been quite surprised at how much I love my silver sandals!! To think it took me 50 years to realize this—ha ha!! (I think I love that they are shiny—so you’re right—that correlates to happiness!!

  • Love love love….Pink trousers look fabulous with silver. Nancy has inspired me to search for some hot pink breeks (a good Scottish word).
Pink might be my favourite, so far!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Don’t you just love Nancy’s hot pink trousers? I think they add such a pop of color!! (I’m not 100% sure she loves them—I twisted her arm to buy them)—but maybe the more she wears them for the blog, she’ll think about wearing them in her real life!!

  • Your mom’s jacket is so cute, fun and perfect for spring! It immediately caught my eye. Speaking of jackets, I’ve pwned this exact same American Eagle denim blazer for years. 🙂 I don’t believe I’ve ever worn any of my silver shoes with pink, so you ladies are inspiring me to give it a try with your pretty looks. I love all shades of blue with silver. Also, I picked up a cute pair of silver Steve Madden sandals this weekend, so the count goes up…

  • Judy Gramith

Please tell your mom how cute her handcrafted jacket is!! I really like the way her bracelet picks up the polka dots on the sleeves!! Perfection!!

I think you’ve definitely convinced us that silver shoes are versatile, fun and cool for all ages!

Don’t spend 73 bucks for silver sneakers. Find a cheaper white pair at a discount stop and get some silver fabric paint or large markers and do it yourself!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I will definitely tell mom your wonderful remark!!
And what a brilliant idea, Judy!! Of course, fabric paint is the perfect way to make my own!! Thanks for that!!!

      • Judy Gramith

I hope you’ll post them after you’re done crafting.
The challenge is on!! I’m guessing your mom might have some GREAT ideas about other forms of embellishment as well.
I may just have to get in on this myself!

        • Jodie Filogomo

I think that’s a great idea, Judy! If you do it before I post it, you’ll have to send me a pix—I can include it in the post!!

  • Jodie your mom is so adorable. I can’t believe she made the jacket by herself she is so talented. I like all the outfits and the nice selection of jewelry that you have added. I have to admit I don’t own a pair of silver shoes.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for those kind words, Mary!!
My mom is quite amazing with her sewing machine—she was a home economics teacher for her profession, so I guess it makes sense!
I have to laugh at your confession—because I didn’t either until I decided to do this blog post, and then I had to buy some. What I find funny is how I notice them on others all the time now! And how versatile I feel they are—I think I’ve worn them at least twice a week since I bought them!!

  • Lovely outfits. I really like your look Jodie but I guess form your comment that you didn’t so much. I can’t believe your mum made the jacket it’s great and very unique, Great looks all round! Have a lovely weekend. Gemma x

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Gemma!
I did like my outfit when I first put it together, but then I questioned it when I uploaded the pictures (you know how that goes). It must be one of those that depends on my mood, because when I was writing the text, I didn’t love it—but today I look at it and think, it’s fine!
Thanks for always commenting on my posts—I really appreciate it!

  • Look at you, hanging out on the farm…love it! Your mom’s jacket is da bomb, and so is her bracelet! Love your bracelet too. I just had an idea for your blog…I think the ‘diva’s’ should take over the styling for a week! I’m really curious how your mom would style you… 😉
    http://whosaprettygirl.com

    • Jodie Filogomo

Well aren’t you the idea maker??
My mom would probably put me in a pink print top with my jeans for this one—-mom? What do you say? (maybe she’ll reply too….)
I am letting them each put together an outfit for an upcoming post—so that’s a start, right?
Actually they both look nice on a daily basis without me. The only thing I feel I’ve done is try to get mom away from matching all the time, and Nancy away from her windbreakers!!
This farm equipment was on the side of the road on our way to meet friends for lunch, so we had to stop!!

  • Great looks!

I think all three outfits are successful. And the silver shoes go especially well with your pants in my opinion.

I love your mom’s bracelet! And how fun are Nancy’s bright pink pants!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

      I appreciate the remarks Andrea!!
I especially love Nancy’s pants—of course, I had to twist her arm to buy them (I think they are a little bright for her liking). But she appeases me and wears them (at least for the blog pictures!!)

  • Mary Lynn Somers

Silver shoes are cool and versatile. Appreciate that the ones you show are affordable. Love your jacket, Nancy’s bejeweled top and Mom’s bracelets!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Mary!!
I rarely pay over $100 for clothing items, so I try really hard to show ones that I would buy! In fact the sneakers at Asos which I love—I think I’m going to try the trick that many bloggers use, and stalk them until they go on sale (if I remember)!
      I really appreciate your kindness!!!
