Spring Weddings for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: A Daytime Event

Spring Weddings for the 50, 60 & 70 year old women.

Quote of the day: “Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency.” Maya Angelou

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like spring weddings are one of the hardest events to plan what outfit to wear. Possibly it’s because of my geographical location? But in my head when I think of a spring wedding, I want to pull out all my lightweight and colorful clothing. However, there is usually still a chill in the air and sometimes even snow to contend with! This week on the blog, I will concentrate on this festive occasion with three different scenarios. For my first post of the week, I had the afternoon (or somewhat more casual) time in mind. Of course, I added layers to all three of our outfits to help with keeping us warm!

50’s Outfit: Of course I wanted to add some bright color to my outfit—thus, hello yellow!!

60’s Outfit: Nancy’s bird nest necklace I hoped could be the perfect indication of springtime! Isn’t it darling? She made it for a church project.

70’s Outfit: A lightweight turtleneck can eliminate the need for a cardigan or jacket. Especially since you can add a couple layers underneath!

  • Stacey Keeling

You all look so pretty! I hope you’ll have summer wedding ideas too. 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for such a nice compliment Stacey. I actually did a series on summer weddings last summer: http://bit.ly/1KQcH8A That’s the link to the last one in the series which also has the links in it to the first two! Hope you enjoy!! (I have a “past posts” tab in the menu where you can find all our outfits from the last year and a half if you’re interested!!)

  • You all look lovely and fittingly for a daytime spring wedding.

      Thanks so much Rena!!

  • So true – the version of spring we have in our minds often dosen’t arrive until May… forget about March! Love the mint and yellow combo you went with.

Thanks Lydia…the other problem is I’ll look at the weather stats and see it’s supposed to be a certain temp—but that’s at the highest point of the day—not always when I’m going to said event!! Thanks so much for commenting!

  • All beautifully styled.

      Thanks Osy—I appreciate your comment!

  • These are all very sweet looks.

I love that little bird’s nest necklace. Super cute.

Thanks Darcy! Might as well wear our cute things , right?

  • Alexis Grant

    Cute looks! Work it girls!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Funny…that’s what my husband says when he occasionally takes the pix! “work it” now makes me smile and laugh!!

  • All of you look lovely! You chose such beautiful, flattering colours

Thanks Alecz! I’m trying to steer us older women away from black—especially for a wedding event!!

  • Bernadette Laganella

Thanks for posting this today. You gals look great.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Bernadette! We try hard!

  • Anna Parkes

You all look good to go! The trick of dressing up for a wedding is looking smart yet feeling comfortable and that’s what comes across with you all. I kinda want the limo to whoosh up the drive and collect you for the big event x

The limo idea is a great one—who doesn’t love being chauffeured to an event?? You’re right about being comfortable—and maybe it’s a good idea to think cardigans instead of turtlenecks in case one gets crazy with the dancing and gets a little on the hottish side!!

  • I love the special little accessories you’ve highlighted in each outfit. Your look is my absolutely fave, probably because of the ruffly top and sage green skirt. It’s very ladylike and romantic. And the pops of yellow in your necklace and shoes are a perfect counterpoint to the more subdued palette. It’s like infusing a bit of sunshine into your outfit! No spring weddings on the agenda this year, but we have quite a few summer and fall ones coming up!

My look is quite girlie—and that’s such a detour of how I used to dress (I used to be so serious)!! Thanks for such wonderful comments, Liz!!

  • dan

Weddings are common in spring ( but I was a winter bride ) and I always find it difficult to choose the right outfit. Accessories can make the difference !

I like the three outfits and the very cute bags, too!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s so much easier when you’re the bride, right?

  • I love that you are all wearing color, so pretty!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Tara!! I always equate black with funerals, so i tend to shy away from it for weddings!!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

I adore all these outfits, but had to laugh at my initial reaction of old programming, as you’ve featured white in all of them.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Hah…I didn’t even realize!! Maybe because I wanted them to be light and bright!!

  • The accessories are stealing the show today! LOVE them!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Darlene!

  • Jodie Filogomo

I was hoping it didn’t come across wrong—I just meant, it’s an interesting phenomena. I sometimes think it also!! Just me pontificating on life in general!! Ha ha!!

  • I love how all the accessories really make the outfits. Your lovely yellow necklace, Nancy’s bag and that adorable necklace and your Mum’s bright blue bag.

Hopefully, these lovely Spring outfits will hurry Spring along!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Don’t you just love accessories—-besides the fact that they can spruce up an outfit—they are also smaller and take up less room in my closet!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

Great outfits for a daytime, more casual wedding. This time of year is so hard to plan for. I love to layer and you did a great job with all three outfits adding that little extra warmth. Love your pop of “Buttercup”! I also like Nancy’s shrug/sweater…that could go with a number of things. And your mom is pretty in pink, but I love the pop of blue! Nicely done.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Amy—I’m a big fan of the pop of color with purses, even though the first reaction is to match it! Mom’s first pick was (of course) a pink one, but I think she ended up loving the blue!!

  • PetiteOver40

You all look so beautiful and ready for spring! This is the first time I can’t figure out a favorite look — I love all three!! All the details, from your bracelet to your shoes and necklace to Nancy’s bird nest necklace to your mom’s pink skirt and scarf with a pop of blue — need I go on? Brilliant combinations, Jodie!! <3

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Sherry! It is funny how most people will have a favorite between the three of us….yet the whole idea is not a competition, but a inspirational guide (or something)!!

  • Laura

You all look so elegant! I love the touches of color you all used!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Laura—I really appreciate your input!

  • I always enjoy your three different takes for the same situation. That birds nest necklace is fantastic. what a great idea!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Terri—I’m glad you enjoy it because mom and Nancy love it too (usually—until I do a version they don’t agree with—wait until Saturday, you’ll see what I mean!)

  • Bernadette Laganella

Yellow is so unexpected and perfect choice. Nancy’s necklace s fantastic. Hope to see you post at the Salon tomorrow.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Bernadette–wouldn’t miss it!!

  • These are very pretty outfits for a spring wedding. I love the clean crisp whites with pops of color.
