Summer Weddings for the 50's, 60's, & 70's

Options of What to Wear to an Outdoor Summer Wedding

Quote of the day: “Luck is luck…and hard work.” Barbara Walters

Ahhh weddings.  A wonderful time to celebrate love, good feelings and friends.  Yet it can also be a time for stressing out over what to wear.  Since we think of a wedding as a dressy & somewhat formal affair, the apparel of choice is commonly a dress or skirt for women.

For this post’s theme of an outdoor wedding, this could certainly be the exception to that thinking.  However, I decided to keep with the dressier theme, although I did have us all wear flats.  Of course, the venue of the outdoor wedding is an important factor to consider and can certainly dictate the appropriate footwear!

What to WEar to an Outdoor wedding Summer Weddings for the 50's, 60's, & 70's

50’s Summer Wedding: Thanks to my friend, Linda, for this dress.  I had always said I would never wear a maxi dress, but when she offered me this one, I decided to change my mind.  Writing this blog (and thus reading a ton of blogs) has taught me never to say never in fashion!

60’s Summer Wedding: Nancy and I went shopping a month ago and scored all three dresses she’ll be wearing for this series!  Isn’t this floral one just so pretty and perfect for the summer?

Wearing Separates to an outdoor wedding for Women over 70 Summer Weddings for the 50's, 60's, & 70's

70’s Summer Wedding: My mom actually doesn’t have as many dresses as she has separates, so we went with a floral skirt!  The cardigan is quite lightweight and more for arm coverage.

Skirt: Carol Anderson (similar here)~~Cardigan: Coldwater Creek (similar here)~~Tank under: Sara Stephen (similar here)~~Shoes: Michael Finelli (similar here)~~Scarf: Mom made it from leftover material from the skirt when she shortened it (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)~~Bracelet: (similar here)~~Ring: (similar here)

Thanks for the love and support!  Do you wear a dress to an outdoor wedding?

Since I love shopping, I found some other appropriate outdoor wedding dresses (or are they too dressy?) (all under $50):

  • Your maxi dress is lovely . I have bought a few this year and I am amazed at how much I adore them ! They flow nicely and are so easy to pop on and hurry out the door .
I also like the other two outfits . Very Summery and styled very nicely . You ladies are a great example to others of how to pull off GREAT style that is modest , fitting to your age but also very fashionable .

  • I love that you all chose something colorful! I always try to stay away from all black at a wedding, since I know so many people will be wearing it 🙂

    • I so agree with you! Especially in the summer, I think we ought to be more colorful. To me black is more funeralish!

  • Love your maxi! I told you that you could rock a maxi! The pastels are gorgeous on you.

    bisous

  • Love everyone’s look. The owl ring on your mom is super cute!

  • I like the outfits and how every look has its own touch of jewellery 🙂

  • Never say never! I learned that applies to every area of my life…lol Why did you think you would never wear a maxi dress? Are you petite like me? Nancy’s dress…LOVE! Can’t wait to see the other two. Floral is definitely the way to go for an outdoor summer wedding.
P.S. Love your mom’s owl ring!

    • I am petite (almost 5’2″) and I like showing off my legs while I still can! And I remember the long dresses from when I was a kid. But the more maxi dresses I see, the more I’m growing to like them! I felt that same way about Nancy’s dress….she tried it on and I said “sold!”
ps…my mom probably has 20 owl pieces of jewelry…crazy!!!
