Yellow for the 50's, 60's & 70's

The Color Yellow for the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s: Alongside the Neutrals Version

Quote of the day: “Limits are all in your head.” Kiesza

Ahhhh…the color yellow.  It brings up visions of the sun, flowers and lemons.  It is a happy color with energy!  Yet many of us have very little of it in our closet.  Just like with any color, there are many shades variations available. So you should be able to find one that looks good with your complexion.  For this sequence of blogs, I’ll style a yellow skirt, shirt and sweater with other colors.  Today it’ll be all about pairing yellow with neutrals!

50’s Outfit (skirt): This skirt was an impulse buy on the way to a dinner event.  I ended up wearing it that evening and many more since!  Who says impulse buys are bad?

60’s Outfit (shirt):  Browns are a great neutral to pair with your yellow.  The vest is a new purchase…I thought it might be a little long for Nancy, but I actually really like the length–it’s different from everything else she already owns.

70’s Outfit (sweater): Since many of us already have dark colored dresses, here’s a great way to incorporate some much needed color next to our faces!  The dress is slightly too short for mom’s comfort so we added a skirt under it…it basically just looks like an extra stripe of black!

Here’s a couple ways to incorporate a small amount of yellow into your outfits without breaking the bank (they all come in yellow):

  • Kathleen McDermott

The yellow is quite nice with neutrals. Love your earrings, Nancy’s necklace and Charlotte’s scarf and shoes.

Yellow really had become my favorite color lately!! Maybe that’s because it’s such a cheery color and I’m very happy in life right now??
      🙂

  • I love all the different shades of yellow and how there is a shade that will flatter everyone. You all look gorgeous!

  • Yellow is such a great color this time of year…you all look great in it!

    • Thanks Tara!! You’re right, we see the color yellow more this time of year. Maybe I should start a campaign to wear it in the winter because that’s when we need the brightness?!!

  • such cute outfits on all 3 lovely ladies 🙂

  • love the outfits … so well put together.

P.S. Style has no age, right! Love this concept of your post!

  • Love the yellow skirt! I would have totally bought it too. I really like Nancy’s vest also. How clever to put a skirt under your mom’s too short dress! One of my Buffalo Exchange $1.00 purchases is a dress that I’m going to put a pair of leggings with to make it more appropriate. We’ll see how that turns out. 😉

    • Darlene…we need to have an intervention about how much you’re spending on items…$1—that’s so extravagant!!!(can’t wait to see it–I’m sure it’ll look fab!) Thanks for the nice words!!!

      • You crack me up! lol I think you need to take a road trip down to Albuquerque ( so you can get a break from wearing tights. ) and go thrifting with me. We would have a blast!
