Wool Pants for Every Occasion

If I asked you about Chadwicks of Boston, I bet most of you remember the name. I know both mom & I have ordered many products from their catalogs, back in the day! Presently Chadwicks of Boston is working hard to make it easy for us older women to look and feel stylish! Maybe you haven’t seen a catalog in awhile, but their website has some great items to peruse!

They continue offering the classic and more tailored look they are famous for and have added some modern stylish looks as well. Since you know I am a thrifty shopper, I have to admit that I am always concerned about pricing. Of course, I want a quality product, but I don’t want to pay an arm and a leg either. And Chadwicks of Boston has you covered in that department.

Another fabulous aspect about this company is there are so many sizes available. I know as the three of us are all petites, it can be a struggle to find companies that offer our sizing. Not only does Chadwicks of Boston have petites, they also have talls, and plus sizes.

In saying all of this, let me tell you that Chadwicks of Boston, sent us these fully lined, straight legged wool pants. If you’ve been reading my blog for any time now, you know how I love to take one item and make it relevant for many different events for the 3 of us. And that’s what I thought I’d do with these wool pants. One of the considerations in picking these pants, was the fact, that many of the retired women I know, feel like they have to give away all of their “work” clothes. And it’s true, some of those clothing items, won’t be worn again. But I think that some of the pieces can certainly be used in our everyday life.

Jodie’s (50’s) Conservative Work Outfit: So the scenario I came up with for myself is to style the pants for the working world. These kind of trousers were a go-to for me in the colder months in the office.

Chadwicks of Boston Wool pants for 3 generations.

Please let me tell you, that this pair is quite well made.  In this first outfit, I considered an environment, where a jacket is always worn. I think that the color combination of camel & blue are very conservative and classic!

I was able to sit comfortably and move around in these trousers without issues. I actually wore them around the entire day, and I don’t think they wrinkled very badly.

I did knit the sleeveless sweater that I’m wearing under the blazer!

Jodie’s (50’s) Casual Work Outfit: As shown in my second outfit, I styled the trousers for another day at work. However, this time, I figured it could be a more casual day in the work environment.

Here’s the rear view of the trousers! Not too tight, yet not too baggy!

I only wish I had been reading blogs when I was working. I never thought to wear my “work” clothes for non working days. I almost consider it a waste of my clothing now when I look back!

All of the pieces shown in the two scenarios above (besides these trousers) are items I actually did wear when I was working!

Nancy’s (60’s) Dressy Travel Outfit: For Nancy’s story line, I kept it as close to truth as possible. Why not take your pair of wool pants on a winter trip? Nancy’s actually considering a tour to Ireland next October.

Chadwicks of Boston Wool pants for 3 generations.

And these wool pants could be an ideal item to take with her.

Because even when you’re on a trip, there’s usually at least one nice restaurant on the itinerary.

I actually have Nancy’s pants pinned up about 2 inches. Even though we ordered the petites, because she is only 5’0″, they are still a little too long for her shoes. I’ll be shortening them soon, but I didn’t have time before the photos. Now if she wore 4 inch heels, then that would be different–ha ha!

Nancy’s (60’s) Casual Travel Outfit: Especially if you’re travelling the globe, you won’t be able to take a huge variety of clothing items. Thus pieces that can work for many occasions are a smart choice, in my book!

Chadwicks of Boston Wool pants for 3 generations.

Thus it could be extremely helpful if your dressy trousers can be styled also into a casual outfit.

And if it’s cold enough to be wearing wool trousers, it’s also probably cold enough to be wearing a coat! I figured this outfit would be a good reproduction of a walking tour expedition paired with her grey sneakers/oxfords!

I added in a large necklace to add some color around Nancy’s face!

Charlotte’s (70’s) Dressier Outfit: For my mom, I still consider her an active member of the community. She could easily wear this outfit to church on Sundays or to her symphony outing with friends. These trousers fit my mom perfectly right out of the bag. I would call them true to size and we ordered the petite length since she’s 5’4″.

I know of many women in this age group who do not enjoy wearing skirts and dresses anymore. It’s for those women, that I would consider these wool pants perfect especially for the colder months.

One of the nice things about pants in wintertime, is you can layer a pair (or two) of tights or hosiery under your wool pants for warmth!

Mom did make both the vest and shirt in her outfit! The heels are only 2 inches high and easy to wear!

Charlotte’s (70’s) Errand Running Outfit: I realize that many cities have become very casual in their dress and clothing. But I still hold out hope that we can always look fantastic.

Chadwicks of Boston Wool pants for 3 generations.

For a day of running around town to pick up this and that, I had mom slip on some flats. I realize that some pants can’t be worn with both flats & heels. However, if you check out the website for these pants, you’ll see the model is wearing the hemline at the top of her shoes with her heels.

I tried to get a nice closeup of the pants in the sun. The description is a dark teal blue, but I’d call it more of a navy. It comes in 8 other colors also–4 prints and 4 solids

Since it’s getting chilly outside, we layered a long sleeve t-shirt under her short sleeve cardigan.

So there you have it. All 3 of us wearing the same wool trousers for 6 different occasions. I hope you enjoyed this narrative on our traveling pants–ha ha! Even if you don’t need a new pair of wool trousers, I hope you’ll check out the Chadwicks of Boston website and take a gander at their offerings and their new fit guidelines. This powder blue coat would go nicely with these pants!! They do ship internationally which can be convenient for some of you!

  • Those wool pants look so good on you Jodie! I love the color and how you styled it for work with the blazer, and also for day to day, pretty lavendar color with your top and some lovely color combinations with the ladies. Great addition to your wardrobe!

  • Bernadette Laganella

You all look fabulous in those pants. I had completely forgotten about this brand but will definitely look it up again.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Me too—they just weren’t on my radar since I don’t see them at the malls. But I was so pleasantly surprised in how nice the trousers turned out!!
Thanks for the lovely words Bernadette!!

  • I have quite a few things from Chadwicks. I love their stuff and these pants look so comfy. I adore Nancy’s cost as well … I think it’s stunning Jodie! xo

    • Jodie Filogomo

It is quite a good company—you figure if they’ve been around that long, that they are doing something right!!
      Thanks Carla!!

  • I love Chadwicks of Boston and because blue is also one of my favorite colors, everyone gets “two thumbs up” for these outfits!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Antoinette!!
You know it’s a good company when they’ve been around so long!!

  • Stevie Turner

Very smart trousers indeed. Sorry, I can’t call them pants, as over here in the UK pants are a name for men’s underwear!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Ha ha…that is funny…and even though you know what you mean, it sounds weird to your ears, huh?
      Happy Wednesday, Stevie!!

      • Stevie Turner

It does sound weird, but hey, we do speak funny over here!

        • Jodie Filogomo

          🙂

  • That’s a name I haven’t heard in awhile. I will definitely check out their website. I loved the versatility you showed with the pants!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I know, right? I really don’t get many catalogs anymore and since they aren’t in the malls—I’d forgotten about them!!

  • Those are all great looks! The quality looks superb and I love the texture of them!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Ruth!
I have to admit that the quality and weight of these trousers is fantastic! I used to always get my wool pants from a different retailer in the mall—and they were good, but definitely more expensive.
      Thanks for stopping by!!

  • It is so hard to find lined pants these days, as so many companies are skimping on quality. These look amazing!

    • Jodie Filogomo

You’re so right Tara!! I really like having them lined so if I do wear a pair of tights under them, they don’t stick!!

  • dan

I don’t know the brand but if they sell good quality trousers which make you feel comfortable for a long day at work…then that is a very good one !
Beautiful combinations of colours ! I especially like them with Nancy’s coat and with orange in your mom ‘s outfit …

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Dan—it was definitely a challenge to try different color combinations. I know I tend to stick with the same ones a lot!!

  • Good pants are good pants. And this piece is perfect staple in the wardrobe. Great color. I love your mom’s style with the vest. Thank you for linking up with My Red Carpet.

It’s true Anna—I mean they really are a staple in most of our wardrobes—and it’s not like they really go out of style!!
      Thanks for stopping by!

  • All looking amazing in those wool pants! =)

  • Debbie Stinedurf

I love those pants on you Jodie…they fit like they were made for you! Nancy’s casual look is fabulous and I love the details on your mom’s vest! The camel coat that I mentioned that I need to replace in today’s post is actually from Chadwick’s. That coat is at least 15 years old and I have worn it constantly every winter…their clothes are definitely well made!
    Debbie
    http://www.fashionfairydust.com

    • Jodie Filogomo

Now that’s a great testimonial Debbie to your wool coat! It was funny, because when you mentioned that on the blog, I was thinking about the blue one I linked to in my post—I thought it looked so perfect for winter!!
      Thanks and happy Tuesday!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

Jodie, I have heard of Chadwick’s and I think my mom may have gotten their catalogue in years past, but I have never purchased anything from them. This was a nice informative post about their product which I appreciate. I also appreciate that you came up with six completely different ways of styling this pair of pants. That really gives your followers so many ideas for styling one piece various ways. And I think that is something I need to think more about, because it speaks volumes to your concern for your followers (ha, ha sounds like you have a cult…just kidding)! I love both of your work outfits and I wear similar types of things to my job…but I don’t have these wool pants! Dang! Love Nancy’s fuzzy coat and Mom is simple beautiful in that fall colored top and vest. Great post, Jodie. Thanks for sharing.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Amy!
I have to say, it was some good brain exercise to make sure I tried to vary our outfits and color combos!!
      XOXO

  • Cathy Lawdanski

Love them all. Very favorite – yours paired with that camel blazer and Nancy’s with that cute coat and colorful necklace. She is feeling sassy in that! And she looks it! Great post and styling, Jodie!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Cathy!!
It was fun trying to be creative and style us differently with the same item. I know, I’m guilty of getting stuck in my clothing rut —and this was a great exercise!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

I was addicted to Chadwick’s when I first began blogging. DH use to joke me about the blue packages. They’ve changed those now, but while my addiction is over, I receive catalogs regularly and make a few purchases per year. I love their clearance deals! As for these pants, you did a great job showing their versatility. I spent three weeks in Ireland two years ago and dream of returning in the next few years as it was fantastic and the people are so kind and warm.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I rarely even get catalogs anymore Tracey (and that’s probably a good thing)!
So I hadn’t even thought about Chadwicks in the recent years. Since they aren’t in the malls, they just weren’t on my radar. But I’ve been impressed with their offerings!!
I’ll tell Nancy what you said about Irelenad….thanks!

  • Judy Gramith

Chadwicks was one of my “go to catalogues” when I was still teaching. All of you look quite professional. I also like your casual looks.
Generally speaking I have strayed from the more conservative offerings of Chadwicks in the last 10 years or so but there’s no question that they offer good quality and reasonable prices.
I’ll have to check out their online offerings!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It is interesting how we go through phases, huh, Jude?
There was a time when I’d only buy from Ann Taylor. But I must admit I really like mixing it up more nowadays! Who wants to look like a walking advertisement for a certain store? Ha ha!!

  • mummabstylish

Nice one Jodie, all three look very stylish in these slacks! Loving the large necklace with Nancy’s look, and great colour mixing in Charlottes look. x

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Jacqui!!
It was fun trying to see how I could make all the outfits look different with the same trousers!!

  • PetiteOver40

All three of you look great in your Chadwick’s pants! I loved the thought-process your brought to each outfit. You look the professional in yours, Nancy is ready for cruising the world in hers, and your mom looks ready for church and/or a music festival. You ladies are so hip!! Oh! And if I meet Nancy wearing that cute teddybear coat she’s wearing, I might steal it! 😜 Just kidding.

    Hugs, 💛

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t that fuzzy coat just so fabulous?? Nancy & I picked it out at the end of the season last year, so she hasn’t really had a ton of chances to wear it!
We keep vacillating whether or not I should shorten the sleeves, but then I thought to roll them up with the lining showing—I think we’ll keep it like that because sometimes with a coat you want the sleeves longer!!
ps…we got it at Macy’s or Dillards!!

      • PetiteOver40

I’ll check out both places for a similar coat! It looks really cute on her! I didn’t notice you had rolled up the sleeves until you mentioned it. You’re right — sometimes you want the sleeves to be a little longer, especially as it gets chillier and chillier!!

        • Jodie Filogomo

Here’s one too: http://bit.ly/2eaPzaJ—maybe a little darker? but it’s reversible!!

          • PetiteOver40

I like the dark gray color and the coziness of that!! Thank you!

  • Fun idea to see them styled at different ages!

  • Pam@over50feeling40

I love how you do this Jodie! All three of you look fabulous in Chadwicks!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Pam!!

  • Laura

These pants are definitely versatile and look like they are high quality too! I really think navy goes with every color and you have showcased that well! I love how they look with heels in your two outfits and the bright yellow in your mom’s outfit! Also, Nancy’s statement necklace is beautiful!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Laura!

  • These look great! I love how you styled them. Being 5’4″ I love being able to buy petites!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Jennifer!
Even though I can do my own alterations—it is awfully nice not to need to!!

I was quite surprised at how these pants fit in with what we had in our closets so well. It’s kinda like they are a dressy version of jeans!!

  • Fantastic vest your mother is wearing! Looks like very comfortable and yet classy trousers.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Nancy!
Mom’s vest has been in the back of the closet for ages—I figured it was a 70’s type thing, so I decided it was time to come out again! Doesn’t she have the funnest things??

  • Great post and amazing photos, thanks so much for sharing!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Laura! Those shoes have been in my closet for years—I wore them to work tons, but haven’t been wearing them as much lately. I guess I need to remedy that!
I was amazed at how these pants would work so well —I think part of it is the color—in a way they are like a dressy pair of jeans!!
      Happy Monday!

  • Chadwicks has so many great clothes! I love that you chose the same pair of pants for the three of you and styled it six different ways! Great job!

And I hear you about wearing “work clothes” for the rest of your life. I used to have “work clothes” and “casual clothes” but started letting go of those labels several years ago and try to add mostly versatile pieces that work for both. It makes so much more sense – I have more to wear with fewer clothes in my closet…

    Have a great week!

I think you’re so right—it makes tons of sense, because it’s not really one piece that makes it office appropriate. It’s pretty much how you style things together and how they fit!!
      Happy Monday!!
