Our Ageless Style group is talking about skinny jeans. My crew discussed reasons you don’t want to be throwing out your skinny jeans weeks ago even if they are on the “out” column of the style radar. So today I thought I’d give options of how to still be stylish with what to wear if you still like skinny jeans.
Quote of the day: “Only if we understand can we care. Only if we care will we help.” Jane Goodall
It seems a shame to have clothing that is deemed “out of style” every couple of years. Especially once we find a style that we really like and it goes with the other pieces in our closet.
That’s why I thought it would be interesting to think about what to wear if you still like skinny jeans.
What to wear if you still like skinny jeans
1-Velvet or corduroy
2-Great colors or sheen
3-Faux leather
4-Trendy footwear
5-Joggers
I’m the type of person who thinks it’s good to look contemporary and modern, yet I also think it’s wasteful to just purge things once “they” say it’s out of style.
BTW, don’t you wonder who “they” are?
What I came up with is trying out different materials with the same silhouette that could be a nice substitute for your skinny, denim jeans.
Another idea is to change your footwear to make sure it is more trendy. As well as finding another alternative of pants that has the same sort of look but seems more modern.
Now if you don’t love skinny jeans, then you are in hog heaven with all of the other silhouettes of jeans at the retail stores.
In my opinion, it’s nice to have options, so I’ll be wearing them all.

Different Materials
Even if you still like to wear skinny jeans, just changing up what material they are made of can change the look so much.
I came up with three different options of skinny jeans that I had in my closet that would fulfill this idea. 2 out of the 3 were thrifted, so that’s always a great way to start if you aren’t sure about trying these materials.
Velvet or Corduroy
A textured material like velvet or corduroy is always perfect for the winter months. When you have a pair of skinny jeans in one of these materials, the jeans won’t look quite as tight in the first place because the material has a texture that sticks out.
In fact, I went a step further in my black velvet skinny jeans by pairing them with ankle boots that are wider. So you would never realize that these jeans aren’t straight-leg jeans.
Insider tip: Wearing your skinny jeans with tall boots is one way to camouflage the fact that the bottom half is skinny.
Great Colors or Sheen
Another option of what to wear if you still like skinny jeans but want to look modern is to vary the color or sheen of your jeans.
I found these metallic silver jeans at Goodwill and thought they would be absolutely fabulous. While they are still the skinny silhouette, I thought the fact that they are shiny would be a fabulous focal point.
In fact, I’ve seen a lot of sequin pants both skinny-leg versions and wider-leg versions. Since I believe every day should be celebrated by dressing up in our fun clothes, I can see why these are so popular.
Insider tip: If you don’t wear skirts or dresses anymore, pants with sequins or any kind of bling are a great way to add a dressier vibe.
Faux Leather Skinny Jeans
Another great material that is very contemporary right now is faux leather. While we showcased other items in the material recently, the faux leather pants are very popular too. I’ve seen them in both the skinny silhouette as well as the wider varieties.
If you don’t like the newer silhouettes of jeans, then I think the answer to what to wear if you still like skinny jeans is to try different materials.
Up Your Footwear Game
As the saying goes, your shoes can make or break an outfit. While some shoes and boots are classic in style, it’s good to try some of the trendier footwear. When you pair the newer shoes or boots with your skinny jeans, it’s showing that you aren’t living under a rock.
What’s trendy in footwear right now?
1-Combat boots-and yes these work for women of all ages
2-Lug soles-the thicker platforms can actually keep your feet warmer in the cold weather
3-Clogs
Basically, we are reliving the 60s and 70s again, haha.
Joggers
Joggers are still popular in the style scene, and they have the same basic shape as skinny jeans without being skinny jeans. What I love is how joggers come in every kind of material so you don’t have to be wearing sweats.
In fact, I have this shiny pair of joggers that are very lightweight and give off a dressy vibe.
