Adding Another Dress to Your Closet With VIPme

Fabulous dresses for 3 different Generations for the Summer

Adding Another Dress to Your Closet with VIPme

Your wardrobe is full of clothes, I bet; so can you really rationalize adding another dress to your closet? I’m sure this is a question you’ve asked yourself from time to time. Or at least your husband has asked, ha ha!!

But in all honesty, dresses are the first garments I reach for when getting ready to attend either a wedding, gala, date night, or fancy party! As one woman said to me, it’s one and done! Besides, they make you look so put together and feminine.

You may have read the first post showing our dresses from VIPme earlier, and now here are more! These items from’s site are considered flash sales. What that means to you, is that if you fancy the piece, it’s better to order it right away.  Because much of the time, these clothing items are only available for a specified amount of time. However, if it’s sold out, don’t worry! The online shopping website, has many more where that came from!

Now let me give you some feedback about these dresses we received! And if you’re going to order anything, make sure you use the discount code Jodie560 for $5 off an order of $50 for my readers! I know it’s only $5, but it all adds up, right?

Jodie’s (50’s) Outfit: This purple jacquard midi dress caught my eye right away when I was perusing the site.

I absolutely love the material and color of this dress, although it’s a little more purple than the burgundy you see on their website.

Dresses from VIPme for Women over 50

This is definitely an entirely different look than the other dress I received from VIPme.

It’s not as fitted or sleek as the pink dress (here), but to me that’s part of the advantage. I want a couple of different styles in my closet, so depending on the occasion, I have what I need!

Style for Women over 50 and special occasions

Now let me give you the low down on this particular dress.

I ordered my normal size using their measurements guide, but this one was a tad big in the torso. So I ended up taking in an inch on each side so the bodice would be fitted. The material is a heavy weight, gorgeous jacquard. The pleats needed to be ironed when I got it because otherwise they jetted out a little too much for my liking.

You can see that it’s definitely longer on me than the VIPme model since I’m only 5’2″. I am seriously considering shortening it about 3 inches in length. But I absolutely love it!! I think it’s one of those items in my repertoire that will get worn to many weddings and parties!!

Nancy’s (60’s) Outfit: You may notice that Nancy received 2 solid colored dresses for her selections.

Not that Nancy never wears a print, but I know that she tends to be more comfortable in the solid colored dresses. Besides isn’t this pink just a lovely color on her?

Looking great for Women over 60

If you notice, both of these dresses that Nancy received could work with either of the shoes we’ve styled!

And that’s not to say that she doesn’t have any other shoes that would work. Her silver glitter pumps would be perfect also! And then a pearl necklace would make this perfect for a summer wedding guest outfit! and selections of dressed for Women over 60

Nancy’s body shape is one that is short waisted.

Therefore I was worried that the top portion would be too long for Nancy. However, it’s actually not super long. We did decide that I’m going to try to take up the shoulder just a half inch, so there isn’t as much material hanging at her waist.

But otherwise, it’s a fabulous fit, and accentuates her waistline so nicely with the attached belt! You may notice that the description for this dress says short. But since Nancy is only 5’0″, the length is great on her! And it comes with the camisole portion already attached, so it’s quite modest.

Charlotte’s (70’s) Outfit: I decided to order a maxi dress for my mom with the thought that then she wouldn’t need to wear hosiery with it.

However, she cracks me up because she says that wearing shoes without hose feels weird to her. Tell me does anyone else experience this?

Fashionable Dresses for Women over 70

Now you may not realize it, but this maxi dress is sleeveless.

We added a shirt beneath it for some arm coverage, and it really matches so well. I figured mom could wear many different colors shirts beneath this dress including burgundy, tan or even grey.

As for some details about this dress, let me tell you how it’s worn.

There is a tie that feed through the opposite side of the dress which wraps around and creates the belt. The nice part is that there is a tie on each side so you can feed either tie through either side! And even though it’s a maxi dress, it’s more sheer in the bottom portions, so it doesn’t feel as heavy!

The only bad thing about this dress that my mom is wearing is that it’s currently sold out! However, let me link you to quite a few other maxis that are just as gorgeous, here, here, here, here or here!

      Thanks so much Su!!
I do think my mom’s dress is perfect for her!! I actually tried it on myself because I loved the print, and maybe someday, you’ll see me “borrowing” it! Ha ha!!

  • I love these violet hues of these dresses. The floral print one is gorgeous and the rest work for different times of the day. So versatile and gorgeous 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Heather!!
I didn’t even mean to group them by color—it was a happy coincidence!!

  • Feeling MumYet

Charlotte’s dress is absolutely stunning! I am mid 30s and I would wear that as well! Lovely! #FabFridayPost

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t it gorgeous?? In fact, I tried it on when they came in the mail, and you might see me “borrowing” it in the future–ha ha!!!

  • Tina von tinaspinkfriday

Oh these dresses are all beautiful Jodie 🙂 I really love the colour from yours. I wish you a wonderfull sunday. XO Tina

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Tina!!

  • Michelle Leslie

You all look gorgeous Jodie. The dresses are beautiful but I went weak at the knees when I saw the Maxi dress your Mom’s wearing. I love it!!! So my style. Such a pity it’s not in stock anymore. I’m going to check up on the other links you shared just in case 😉

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Michelle!!
That really is the bummer about the flash sale sites—the items aren’t available for long periods of time!! But they do have such gorgeous pieces!! I even checked their competitor for you to see if they had the same dress (sometimes I find them on both sites), but they didn’t either—-so sorry!!

  • What pretty dresses! I love all 3 but especially Nancy’s–that pink color is one of my very favorites. And I love your shoe picks too–I have the gold scalloped pair and really want the ones with the pom pom!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Aren’t they the best shoes ever Shea?? I haven’t seen the pom pom ones—but I may have to get them!!!
      Thanks for the love!! XOXO

  • Terri Webster Schrandt

The dresses are so figure flattering and beautiful! I especially like yours, that wider skirt hides my hips better! Happy Mothers Day weekend to all of you 🙂 <3

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Terri!!
And Happy Mother’s Day to you too!!

  • Jodie you’re hair looks really pretty like that! I’m all about dresses for wedding and events, too. I can’t wait to wear a new one that I bought for a wedding next weekend 🙂

    Treats and Trends

    • Jodie Filogomo

Isn’t it fun to have a new one for a special event, Jamie??
I can’t wait to see yours!!

  • All three are gorgeous dresses and really showcase the variety at VIPme. Yours is my favorite. That purple jacquard looks positively regal!

I like Nancy’s as a more approachable and versatile option for a variety of occasions. I feel like there’s a lot of styling and remixing potential with her dress.

And Charlotte’s maxi is so ethereal. Layering a sleeved dress or shirt underneath is genius. I’ve overlooked many a sleeveless dress, so this gives me something to consider. She could have fun playing with different colors too. A dark purple would add more drama for a darker, moodier look!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for the positive comments—-it means so much to hear the good things and I always make sure to forward these comments to mom & Nancy too!!
I know what you mean about the sleeveless dresses, Liz! In fact Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen was talking about that today too!! I don’t always mind sleeveless myself, but I do appreciate a dress that has sleeves!! Especially in the winter!!

  • So many pretty dresses! I can see myself searching VIPme for days on end.

I saw Charlotte’s dress from yesterday on ‘Stylewe’ yesterday for about twice the price.

Among my ‘rules’ is the need for covering the arms to the elbow. Charlotte’s shirt solved that problem right off and the look is intentional. I have a good black ls tee that is reserved for wear with either of 2 black sleeveless dresses in heavy fabrics, winter wear. On the other hand, a dedicated quality tee adds to the price of a garment as does a shrug.

It is great to see the back views. I do wish VIPme gave the approximate length of each dress.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I feel like I spend hours on their site—because I love almost everything!!
That’s so interesting that you saw the same dress on Stylewe—I don’t even check their site any more because working with them was not as seamless! But it makes sense that they would be in competition with each other. Maybe that’s good to know to compare prices?
I have requested with VIPme to start including the length of their items—supposedly they are working on it! Because it truly makes a difference!!
Thanks for your thought Jean!! And happy Mother’s Day!!

  • Yes! Adding a new dress is always a good idea. 😉 You ladies have been knocking it out of the park with these dresses! I love them all again. Your mom’s is such a unique piece, and I love how you styled it with the shirt underneath. And once again, you’re rocking a dress I need in my closet!! That is such a pretty color, and I love the fit. (I personally like the length, too). 🙂 Hope you all have a great weekend!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I have a feeling I’m going to keep my dress this length since I’ve gotten so much positive feedback on it!! Besides, it’s good to have some variety in my closet, right?
Thanks for the love and have a fantastic weekend too!!

  • Robin Michele Plous

Great ideas and styles Jodie! I love your dress! It’s nice for me to think about what I might like in a dress down the road … I’m still uncomfortable in dresses and skirts, but as my weight continues to go down, my confidence will go up — and maybe that will mean I’ll try a dress or two!

    • Jodie Filogomo

You should absolutely try a dress Robin—maybe one from the thrift store so it’s not a huge investment??
I know many of the plus size bloggers I follow tend to wear dresses even more than pants, so you shouldn’t feel uncomfortable at all—no matter what your size!!
But if you’re not used to it—I understand!! It’s all practice!!

      • Robin Michele Plous

I have seen so many plus size bloggers look fabulous in dresses. I just don’t. I’m short, short waisted, and feel like I can point directly at the parts of my body where the other 75 pounds need to come off of! But, I would love nothing more than to feel pretty and feminine in a dress. So — the time will come, but it isn’t here yet! I promise!

        • Jodie Filogomo

Well, I’m looking forward to seeing it Robin! You’ll have to make it a post when it happens!! And I think you’ll be surprised at the response. Because you know—we are our own worst critics!!

  • Versatilestylebytracey

You picked a great dress , perfect for special occasions! Nancy doesn’t need a pattern when it is such a vibrant fabulous color like that one is. Is Mom actually wearing a dress under the maxi? With it’s sheerness it seems more like a long duster vest , in my opinion. .

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Tracey!!
Actually my mom has just a shirt on under this dress. The dress does have a underlining attached (that is almost the same color). And it could almost be a duster—except the ties might be too long?? We’ll have to try that out and see if that would work—thanks for the thought!!

  • Theresa Campbell

Love all the dresses. And I really don’t think you need to shorten yours. I love that classic fit and flared silhouette.Always figure flattering. And it’s interesting you post about altering clothing for better fit. Being in the clothing business and having to deal with mountains of returns on a regular basis, it’s refreshing to know there are still shoppers out there who realize there are other options besides just sending something back 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks for your thoughts Theresa!!
What you say is quite alarming really!! Of course, part of my knowledge stems from the fact that my mother (the 70+ model) is a seamstress—so I probably knew about altering from age 2–ha ha!!
It’s always shocking to me that people expect clothing to fit perfectly off the rack!! And another $10-20 for getting the perfect fit is so worth the hassle of returning!!
      I feel for you!!

  • Nicole Mölders

I love your dress! Fit-and-flare looks great on you.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Nicole!!

  • Rebecca Saffer

Wow – you look stunning in that dress, Jodie. You three ladies look beautiful and ready to enjoy your day. One comment though, the photos and text come up light on my computer screen. I am not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. I don’t seem to have that issue with other blogs. Any suggestions? Thanks and I wish you all a wonderful Mother’s Day!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks for the nice words, Rebecca.
As for the lightness—is it on every post?? That’s so strange because it’s not on my computer, or my husbands. And it seems fine on my phone too! Sometimes I think the technology gods are playing tricks on me…..oy!
Even when I google that issue, I don’t seem to find anything. I’ll have to ask my IT husband when he gets home tonight. Thanks so much for the heads up!!

      • Rebecca Saffer

Thanks for checking Jodie. You put so much effort and thought into each post that I wanted the images to be as beautiful as they are meant to be!

        • Jodie Filogomo

Aww…thanks for saying that Rebecca…I really appreciate it! 🙂

  • Jodie that dress is so lovely on you!! I love the print, fit, and slightly retro vibe. You all look so pretty. Dresses are my favorite!

    Amy Ann
    Straight A Style

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Amy!!
It is a little retro, isn’t it?? Which goes perfectly with my gray hairs—ha ha!!!

  • Judy Gramith

Jodie, your purple print has a retro vibe and I love the length on you. Some purple sparkle at your ears now???
Nancy’s dress brings out that pretty pink hue in her cheeks. So lovely!
Charlotte is such a smart shopper to consider how she can make this lovely maxi even more flexible.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Jude!!
I may have to go shopping for some more earrings, I think!! Don’t laugh, because tomorrow is haircut day and we usually visit a fun boutique just down the road afterwards!!
Happiest of weekends to you too!!

      • Judy Gramith

You have a great weekend to ladies!

  • donnaduck

For me, this is the Spring/Summer of the dress! I think I’ve purchased 7 new dresses so far (!!) this season! I wear slacks to work almost every day in the cold PA winters and I really get tired of them by the time April rolls around. It seems a lot of other women must be jumping on that too, because websites are featuring so many dresses right now! I don’t spend a lot for my dresses online, and I pretty much know which brands fit me for which size/style. I look for sales and free shipping always.

I love all three of your looks, Jodie! As far as your dress in particular, it’s perfect on you! The length is what my mom would call “tea length” and that’s just right for any special occasion. Love the color too! As far as your mom’s hosiery comment- my mom’s the same way! But I doubt there’s any way I’d get her in a maxi at 88 years old! But Charlotte looks fantastic in hers!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Wow—7 dresses??!! That’s absolutely fantastic Donna!! In fat, I might even have a little jealously going on 🙂 🙂
I agree that maybe it is the warm weather that beckons for more skirts & dresses!! Besides, it’s nice to have the variety and options!!
I am glad that my mom is open to trying new styles—it’s funny how some she’ll gravitate towards on her own and others that I have to twist her arm on! But she’s had maxis in her closet for years—I think she does like them. But I did notice you have to be a little more careful in them with the stairs—the last thing I need is for her to fall, right?
      Thanks, XOXO

  • You ladies are so beautiful today! I love all your dresses each is spectacular! Peace!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Cheryl!!

  • All of you look fabulous ! yours in particular is my fave 🙂 You look stunning J.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Awww, thanks so much Lorena!!!
      That really made my day!

  • donnanance

Very pretty dresses…nice colors and detailing. Your dress is gorgeous and I wouldn’t hem it. The skirt is very feminine and elegant. Nancy’s dress is such a good color for her and the embellishment at the waist is perfect. Love the fabric of your mom’s dress. There are enough lovely colors to wear different shirts underneath. The only sleeveless tops I wear are in the garden…otherwise, sleeves please…ha!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Donna! I made sure to forward your comment to both mom & Nancy so they can read your wonderful words too!!
I do think I’ll leave the dress this length! I really like how the photos turned out, and I know I was just comparing it to the website’s model length!!
My mom feels the same way about sleeves—heck, she even covers up outside because we burn so easily!! And she’s always cold!!

  • Love all of your looks ladies, so pretty! xx

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Samantha!!

  • Queen of Rods

I agree with Barbara…don’t shorten your dress, Jodie. The current length looks elegant on your slender frame…I’m thinking Audrey Hepburn 🙂 Nancy looks great as always, and I love the peacock feather print on your Mom’s dress.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I can see what you mean in these photos—-it’s funny because in person it seems like so much material, but I like the pictures!! I’ll probably keep it longer for now since you think so!!
      Thanks for your thoughts Janet!!

  • BarbaraRP

Jodie, the dress already looks great on you. No need to shorten. It might remove some of the elegance. Right now, it looks like you’re floating, which is beautiful! By the way, I only discovered you a week ago after reading your wonderful post on Sixty and Me. Love your ideas!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much for you opinion Barbara and I’m so glad you found us!!!
I guess I won’t shorten the dress–at least right now. I was surprised that it looked great in the photos because in the mirror it seemed too long. But then again I was comparing it to the picture from VIPme’s website!!!

  • Cathy Lawdanski

Great looks on all of you, but I LOVE your dress! I think the style is perfect for you!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Cathy!!
I can tell I’m going to be wearing this dress a lot—I just love it!!
