Adding Tremendous Style for Jeans and a Tee with Color and a Kimono

There are so many ways to style for jeans and a t-shirt to really add personality to a look. Charlotte showcased her look with a handmade jacket. And now Lesley gives us her ideas. My look incorporated my handknit sweater.

Quote of the day: “I am not lucky. You know what I am? I am smart, I am talented, I take advantage of the opportunities that come my way, and I work really, really hard. Don’t call me lucky. Call me a badass.” Shonda Rhimes

This quote is powerful because while not everything is in our control, there is much about life that we can affect. And how we present ourselves to others is definitely one of those things. Why should our look even matter? Because not only does it reflect how we feel about ourselves, but I believe it also shows respect to those around us.
Presenting ourselves in a wonderful light does NOT depend on our size, age or budget. Hopefully, we are prime examples of how those factors do not make a difference.

So the idea this week was to each wear dark denim and a t-shirt, yet spice it up in our own individual way. Style for jeans and a tee start with what I would consider basic, and then what we add to it is a reflection of who we are.

Lesley’s Style For Jeans

Jeans: Style & Co ~~ Kimono: Roz & Ali~~ Top: Chicos~~ Shoes: Skechers or Amelia Grace ~~ Necklace: Chicos ~~ Bracelet: ~~ Purse: Carlos SM

Lesley calls the jeans and white tee an easy peasy uniform that she wore most of her non-working time in Colorado. In her words: “Old habits die hard and I still grab this combo here in Arizona during the cooler months. HOWEVER, If I’m going out of the house, I want to look put together and not embarrass my blog boss. I don’t want to look like I just finished cleaning the garage (like I do every week…NOT!)
I usually grab a 3rd piece like a jacket, sweater, kimono or vest and then fashion shoes rather than sneakers or slippers. The look gets finished off with a scarf or necklace.

It’s a quick change to be a Super Styler!!”

That term “super styler” cracked me up. Maybe it’ll be a new superhero like “superman?” And Lesley is showing how it’s not hard to do.

Let’s Talk Kimonos

If you have been around this blog before, then you know how all three of us love kimonos. Especially now that we live in a place where the temperatures soar in the summer. They act as your third piece but don’t have to be so heavy to cause heat stroke.
I mean just look at how adding this red print kimono to the jeans and tee is so chic.

Let’s talk reasons to try out a kimono:
1-They don’t have to be expensive
2-You can “make” your own kimono from a large scarf…no sewing involved (see Charlotte’s example in this post and check out the How To video link in Charlotte’s post)
3-You can find them in all lengths, materials and colors
4-They can be altered with NO sewing. (Blog post here and YouTube video here with more than 5 ways to do this)

Lesley didn’t stop with the red print kimono to adding style to the jeans outfit. She also grabbed one of her favorite necklaces from Chicos and a stunning purse.

Which red shoes??

Which Shoes??

We showcased all kinds of different styles of shoes with shorter pants and skirts lately to prove that there isn’t “one” right option. So much of which shoe we pick depends on the day’s activities.

You can see because both the espadrille peep toe shoe and the sneaker are the same color, each would work fabulously well with the outfit.
This brings about a suggestion for shoes and clothing in general.

Insider tip: If you have a favorite color item, then it’s a good idea to have that same color in all varieties. For example, these shoes. Lesley obviously loves red shoes, so it’s smart to have red sneakers, sandals, boots and any other style appropriate for your life.
Another example would be for the bottom half. If you love your pair of red pants, then it stands to reason that you need a red skirt and red capris or shorts.

My Goal

Thank you for visiting my space on the internet. I like to showcase how it’s never too late to look great for women of any age, size or working with any budget.
I feel I’m here to help move beyond the fashion rules of yesterday and evolve. Style and clothes are made to give you joy. Not cause us stress because we are worried about what other’s think.

My hope is that you get ideas and inspirations from Charlotte, Lesley and myself. It’s not about copying what we wear, but about using what you already have and updating items along the way.
Most of all it’s getting us to think differently and dare I say, have fun?
