Advice For Which Shoes To Wear With Maxi Skirts In Winter

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

Amy from our Ageless Style group suggested maxi skirts for our February prompt. With that idea, I had my crew showcase a variety of options of shoes to wear with maxi skirts in winter.

Quote of the day: “Failure is ok. That’s how you learn, no matter what age.” Sheila Johnson

I remember the day that I read someone saying that you should only wear open-toed shoes with maxi skirts and dresses.

Well, I say HOGWASH to that.

There’s just no reason you can’t wear any of your closed-toe shoes with maxi skirts.

For one thing, this makes your maxi skirts more versatile so you can wear them all year long. Secondly, it gives you many more options of footwear choices with your maxis.

The four of us wore a variety of footwear that would work in the colder temperatures.

Whether you’re looking for shoes to wear with maxi skirts in winter or any other inspiration with maxis, I have more content you can read.

Keeping Warm with Maxis In Winter

Even if your maxi skirt is lightweight, there are many ways to stay warm when the temperatures dip.
Here are a couple of ideas:

  • For the top half, make sure you layer, layer, layer
  • On the bottom half, don’t forget you can wear long undies, tights, or even fleece leggings.
  • Your feet can be layered with socks of all lengths.

So let’s explore our options of what shoes to wear with maxi skirts in the winter.

Cathie: Wearing Sneakers with Maxi Skirt

Cathie tends to run hot more often than not, so her option for shoes to wear with maxi skirts in winter was sneakers with no-show socks. She doesn’t mind bare ankles even when it’s chilly outside.

This is one of my favorite looks for Cathie lately. I just ADORE how she mixed prints with the gingham maxi skirt and the heart sweater.

On top of that, if you look closely, her sneakers aren’t just ordinary sneakers. They are pink sparkle ones!!

If you wear sneakers a lot, I think you would benefit from a fun pair.

Jodie: Maxi Skirt & Loafers With Knee Socks

Even though my maxi skirt is lightweight enough to wear in the summer months (as proven when we went to the monastery), I decided to make it work for winter with layers on top and knee socks.

I created a “triple set” (think a twin set with one more layer) with a variety of textural ivory items from my closet. A thin, lacy turtleneck, under the short sleeve, chunky sweater under the faux fur vest.

For those of you who don’t love tights, then knee socks and over-the-knee socks could be the answer. They come in all kinds of materials and colors so you can make them work with any kind of outfit.

My knee socks are a light pink which almost look like my skintone. It enables me to wear the lightweight maxi skirt and loafers yet still stay warm.

Insider tip: Lug sole loafers are modern and a great way to keep your feet warmer since there is much more insulation between the cold ground and your feet.

Charlotte: Ankle Boots Styled With Maxi Skirt

My mom is showcasing how ankle boots work wonderfully as shoes to wear with maxi skirts in the winter. You are keeping your ankles and feet warm while the skirt covers the rest.
You can wear tights or knee socks (or no socks for that matter) depending on how cold it is.

Charlotte wore this same maxi skirt when we were talking about bohemian style for older women. I love how she incorporated a striped top that has the same colors as the embroidery of the skirt.

While most women purchase brown and black booties for the winter, I might suggest that grey could be as versatile and yet somewhat unique.

Insider tip: If you aren’t sure the color of your footwear works, just bookend it with the same color hat to make it look uber-intentional.

There are two versions of grey.
Light grey which is perfect if you tend to wear lighter colors in the winter.
Dark grey which will be a nice change from always wearing black booties and yet will still go with all of your dark items.

Lesley: Tall Boots & Long Skirt

Lesley chose a pair of tall boots to wear with her long skirt. This is especially helpful if it’s super cold and your skirt is not ankle length to keep you warm.
She chose tall boots that blended into the color of her skirt so that they weren’t the focus.

And check out that color combination!! The light blue with the copper skirt is truly stunning. Do you remember seeing her wear this skirt with black and leopard recently?

As I say over and over, belts can be good no matter what size or shape. I love how Lesley wears belts with many of her looks even though she calls herself a Zucchini shape.

I’m seeing more and more slouchy boots which are a nice change from tight boots. If you tend to run hot and don’t like things close to your body, this is the style for you.
