Amuse Bouche #17-The Liebster Award

Amuse Bouche (ˈä-ˌmüz-ˈbüsh): literally translated into “mouth amuser”.  Wikipedia definition: a single, bite-sized hors d’oeuvre.

Jodie’s use of the term: a small hint or clever tip!  (Think Hints from Heloise!!) or today: an announcement!

Online Blogging Liebster Award

The Liebster Award

I was extremely happy to accept this Blogging Award from the blog: The Fabulous Journey: Life After 40–great title, don’t you think?  Shellie dedicated her blog to empowering women to live fabulous, fashionable, fit and fulfilling lives!   The Liebster award is an online blogging award given to new bloggers to help and support them (a concept in which I very much believe ).  What a great idea to introduce my followers to other blogs and get the same help in return!  Answering the following 11 questions, which helps my readers get to know me better, are one of the rules of accepting the award (see complete rules at the end).  And then in turn, I will nominate more bloggers for the award.

1. How did you decide on the name of your blog?

I came up with a couple choices and proceeded to ask a group of friends which was their favorite.  I enjoy the idea of soliciting the opinions of others!

2. Where does your blogging inspiration come from?

I’ve always loved to “put together” outfits for myself and others.   So now that I’m retired, I decided to engage my mother & step mom in this passion!  I really want us, as older women, to look as good as we can!

3.What is it that you love most about blogging?

3 things: 1-I love the opinion of others on the outfit choices!  2-I’ve learned there are many amazing women out there that you’d never meet otherwise.  And 3-I’ve discovered the amazing fact of how some ensembles look fine in the mirror and yet the pictures look ugh!

4.What is your favorite food?

The ironic thing about this is I love all foods now; whereas as a kid, I was a very picky eater!

5. What is your favorite thing to drink (alcoholic or not)?

A great glass of wine is the perfect accompaniment to good food!

6.What is an item you cannot live without?

My heated toilet seat (see the post: here)

7.What are eleven random facts about yourself?

-I used to be a gymnast.

-I’m thrifty…even to the point that I will pick up a penny if I see one on the ground!

-I was born with a partial cleft lip and had surgery on it in high school.

-I loved sunbathing even though my skin doesn’t know the meaning of the word “tan”—but now I’ve gotten smarter about it (after a couple bouts with basal cell carcinoma).

-I’m an avid knitter who has way too much yarn.

-My household consists of my husband and two rescued kitties: Spookie & Monkey.

-I’m an only child who always wanted an older brother.

-I have a huge sweet tooth and love to make (and eat) the Hungarian dessert Dobos Torte that my grandma used to make.

-I’ve been described as a “pollyanna”.

-Go Buffs!!  (University of Colorado).

-My curly hair is hard for me as I’m an organized thinker and curls have a mind of their own.

8. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Removing the financial aspect of this question, I would say NYC.  I love the idea of walking everywhere.  (My husband says once the winter came around I would change my mind)

9. If you could meet anyone from history, alive or dead, who would it be?

Since I’m really not a history buff, this was the hardest question for me.  I would say Lucy Hobbs Taylor who was the first American woman to graduate from dental school.

10.What is your favorite outdoor activity?

I’m an indoor girl, so walking is it!!  Unless there’s shopping involved!

11.Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hanging out on the back porch with a mojito!!

Here are the other blogs in which I nominate (in alphabetical order) for this Liebster Award—I hope you’ll check them out and see if they are of any interest to you!  (they are not all the same genre, there’s younger style blogs and even a cooking blog)

Congratulations on this award. I can see why you won. I enjoyed learning more about you! I always pick up coins and am a thrifty shopper – virtually never buy unless it’s sale or clearance, always use coupons at the grocery store. It’s such a fun game – love the thrill of the hunt for bargains. Love putting outfits together to the point that I do it in my head when I’m going to sleep or if I can’t sleep in the middle of the night. So nice you have 2 kitties. Not surprised you were a gymnast – your figure is stunning. Here’s me: I have one brother – 4 years older. Many first cousins I’m close to, 6 of whom grew up in homes across the street (children of my mom’s 2 sisters). Half Irish, half Czech. Married 35 years. Only feline children!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much for a little of your story, Kathleen!!
I always love learning more about people (and what makes them tick)! And you know what? I do that too when I can’t sleep—even before I was blogging!!

  • Nancy Siegel

I congratulated you at the beginning of this site, but I’ll do it again. It’s wonderful….it’s marvelous!!!!! Bathe in the luxury of it all. Forgot to tell you in the “Pucci” comments that those earrings are lovely. Turquoise is my favorite. And last, but not least, I love, love, love, your new glasses. They make you look like you are 20 years young and I am not kidding!!!! They are VERY becoming! Love ya, Aunt Nancy

    • Thanks for all the accolades!! Those glasses are actually my older ones, but maybe now that you say that, I’ll wear them more!

  • I enjoyed getting to know you better! We definitely have some things in common. 😉

    • Tell me, what? 🙂

      • I’m thrifty…I just picked up a dime today! I don’t knit but when I was a young child I crocheted. My cat is also a rescue. I’m an ‘indoor’ girl and I like Mojito’s! 🙂

        • Good to know….so when we get together to go thrifting, we’ll have to stop off for a mojito as a thirst quencher!!!
