Animal Prints for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: As your Footwear

Animal prints are definitely everywhere lately, and it’s not only the “cougars” that wear it!
Since animal prints are still going strong in the fashion world, I thought I’d take a look at them from a different angle and categorize them by items. We also did an entire series on leopard footwear here, here & here so for this post I had each of us wear different shoes compared to the series from last year. That goes to show that we have at least 2 pairs of animal print shoes each!! But I’ll rationalize that I think it’s a great way to add in a little interest and print to any outfit—anyone buying that?
Jodie’s (50’s) Outfit: I picked my animal print loafers for this post. I remember buying these online during a lunch break over 3 years ago. They were only $20, so I figured if I wore them 10 times, I’d be good. Well, needless to say, I’ve certainly gotten my money’s worth since then.
My flats are more of a black & white print, therefore, I used that color scheme as the background for my shirt too!
I wore this outfit to a Saturday brunch with 3 other women. Since the jacket is a little “businessy” (and the brunch was all fun), I thought I’d add in my velvet choker & fringe earrings to make it less serious!
You can’t tell in these pictures, but I am wearing a camisole under this shirt. You can see how it just rests at the waistband of my jeans, so if I raise my arms or move around too much, there’s skin exposed otherwise.
Jeans: Express-thrifted (here)~~Jacket: Escada-thrifted (similar here as a biker jacket and here as a bomber)~~Top: H&M (similar here for a good deal)~~Shoes: Ann Taylor (similar here a great deal in brown!!)~~Necklace: Charlotte Russe (similar here)~~Earrings: Trendz Boutique in Littleton (similar here)
Nancy’s (60’s) Outfit: Nancy’s animal print footwear for this post are her wedges. Since her shoes are in the brown family, I chose brown pieces with a bright purple thrown in for fun!
I love how her wedges have the black heel. Since they are wedges, they tend to be easier to walk in than a skinny heel of the same height.
We added in some orange accessories for a little change. Nancy just bought this sun pendant at a holiday boutique fair, and I thought it looked great with the orange-brown from her shoes.
I ended up really liking this outfit especially because of all the textures. The jacket is a suede and the jeans are coated and thus look almost like leather!
Jeans: Liverpool (similar here)~~Jacket: Cold Water Creek (similar here as a moto version)~~Top: Westbound (similar here)~~Shoes: Life Stride (similar here)~~Necklace: (similar here in a brown with more sparkles)~~Earrings: (similar here)
Charlotte’s (70’s) Outfit: Mom chose her leopard heels for this category! I paired her brown pants with them just like I did with Nancy, but I wanted to show a different color combination for mom.
Mom’s shoes have a 2 inch heel, but at least the heel is not super skinny. It’s actually an easy to walk around in shoe! I love the black bow attached!
We kept the accessories neutral, and didn’t match them to the pants and shoes. They are black instead, but I think with all of the black influences in the shoes & glasses, it doesn’t look too out of place.
In a way, this really is the same recipe as Nancy’s outfit only reversed. We used the color for the topper for mom’s outfit instead of underneath. And mom’s yellow turtleneck could almost be considered a tan color.
Pants: Chaps (similar here in corduroy)~~Cardigan: Charter Club (similar here a different green )~~Top: Preview (similar here more gold)~~Shoes: Life Stride (similar here as a splurge with the bow, and here much less)~~Necklace: (similar here not quite as bulky!)~~Earrings: (similar here)
