Another Option with Camo is our Beloved Denim

Quote of the day: “What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

I had to include this quote with our camo and denim post because it really spoke to me. I know I’ve been very guilty of judging certain styles or prints back in the day! Certainly the camo print was one of those things I thought it would never be on my body! But look at me now! And I cajoled my mom, Nancy and even Kathleen to play along!!

It was Kathleen’s idea to pair the denim with our camo print for these looks!! I know last year when we styled these items, I was thinking about colors, so it worked great to have this year be about material instead!! There was also the fun post where we styled these same camo pieces with lace!

Kathleen (blogette): And welcome back to Kathleen!! I was so glad to see Kathleen style a light colored pair of denim jeans with the camo, since the three of us had worn darker styles!

And Kathleen wanted to point out that both this outfit and the one from the camo and lace post, were head to toe either TJ Maxx or Marshall’s clearance items. It’s the perfect example of how you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look great!!

The other detail that I found fabulous with Kathleen’s outfit is the fact that she mixed her prints also! Adding the floral shirt under the camo jacket, makes it look less hunterish!!

Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: I admit that I wasn’t sure if you all would like the 2 prints that I put together. I know that it’s helpful to use 2 different scales of the print when mixing them, and both of my prints seem about the same size.

Ever since we started mixing prints here on the blog, I’ve really been trying to consciously style more prints together. Sometimes I’m successful, and sometimes I do question the look! That’s why with this outfit, I added in the yellow for the shoes, belt and sunglasses. I was hoping to tie everything together this way!!

I’ve always thought that yellow sandals are the perfect summer shoe. They can add just enough color to an outfit whether the outfit has yellow in it or not.  Here is a pair if you are concerned about comfort and then here is a pair with some beautiful embroidery!!

We took these photos right after I received my first Rocksbox set. I recently explored the pros and cons with this service, and have been trying my darnest to see how much jewelry I can try out in the next 3 months!! If you’d like to see how the service works, you can sign up for a free month with the code Jtouchofstylexoxo! One blogger I talked to says she loves it because it keeps her jewelry collection culled!!

Since this was my first set, I was hesitant to buy this necklace!! But it’s one of those regret moments, as I really love all of the possibilities with what I have in my closet!! In fact, I requested to receive it again, and if I’m lucky enough to get it; I’ll buy it this time!!

For the denim in this outfit, I grabbed my polka dot denim, off-the-shoulder shirt! This off the shoulder detail is one of those trends that I thought I’d pass up when it first came out. However, I have to tell you that for some unknown reason, I really like it!

I purchased this shirt while I was trying out the Shop.co extension as something to get with my free shipping!  The company also offered $25 to the first 500 of my readers to use their service and then fill out a quick survey. If you haven’t done that yet, feel free to use this link.

I tried to show that I only tucked in the front portion of my shirt. I know there are many times when I don’t tuck my shirt in at all, that I feel somewhat sloppy! Or at least with this shirt, I almost looked pregnant–eeek!!

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: For Nancy’s denim addition to her camo blouse, she chose her capri jeans.

In a way, both Nancy & my mom are wearing the same length denim. The big difference is the silhouette of their jeans. Well, besides the wash of the denim is different too! Maybe that’s why the stores sell so much in denim nowadays, because there is so much variety.

Because of that fact, I decided to showcase all different kinds of denim items at the bottom of this post!! Browse to your hearts content!! In fact, the ones that I linked to that are similar to Nancy’s are a fabulous deal, if you are looking for fitted denim capris.

Camo & denim jeans

You can see that Nancy’s blouse is a little sheer, so she put one of her Mod Loops under it instead of a camisole. We discovered these Mod Loops when we were at our neighborhood boutique, Trendz just a couple of months ago!! Both Nancy and I bought a couple of these items, so I’m sure you’ll be seeing them a lot!! In fact, Nancy had her other one on in our other camo post as her lace item.

Since my M.O. is to look at both the good and bad of everything, let me tell you a little more about these Mod Loops. Since it’s just a piece of lace, they are very lightweight and you forget that you have it on. That’s nice when it’s really hot outside and you’d rather not wear a camisole. I’ve worn it at my hips almost like a lace extender, and it stayed put better. When I wore mine under a shirt, because the armholes gaped, it did tend to slide down easier. Now, I just need to come up with a solution to keep it up!

And then check out the cutest shoes that Nancy just bought!! They are a lace up, print espadrille!! I haven’t mentioned espadrilles as much lately, since summer seems to be winding down. But maybe this is the perfect time to find a pair. Usually at the end of the season, these items will be on sale, yet they will still be stylish for next summer! To help you out, I found a couple of pairs for you that are under $30, here, here, here or even here!!

We kept Nancy’s accessories pretty subtle with a metal necklace, bracelets and light yellow earrings!! The necklace is one that Nancy got on her Greece trip!! These kind of souvenirs are the best because you can wear them over and over, and they don’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase to bring them home!!

And see, how the camo works in this photo?? She almost blends into the background! LOL!!

Charlotte’s (70+) Outfit: So the other difference between my mom and Nancy’s denim and camo outfits are the styling.

My mom still doesn’t mind tucking in her shirts, whereas, Nancy rarely does! I’d love to hear your thoughts about this detail. Do you tuck or leave shirts untucked??

Of course if you like to tuck in your shirts, then you probably also have a variety of belts. The two seem to go together!! I’ve always wondered why belts are so expensive? While I was looking for a similar belt to my mom’s, I did find some other fun inexpensive ones like the double version or the wrap version!

Camo blouse and denim culottes

Notice that my mom even chose neutral shoes instead of trying to match her footwear to her shirt! I can’t quite remember if I pushed for these or not, but either way I love them!!

I think the metallic shoes are going to be quite popular this fall and winter!! I’m on the hunt for a pair of silver booties for myself. If you like that idea too, then these could float your boat, or these are totally fun!!

Even my mom kept her jewelry relatively simple with a matching necklace and bracelet along with gold hoop earrings. But I will have you notice that the gold accessories are a different metal than the silver belt! I know we were brought up with the rule that metals had to match, but that rule is no longer existent, so feel free to mix it up!!

denim culottes with camo for 70+ women

Let’s talk about the culottes for a minute!! This pair is from our local boutique where we had the funnest event in June! I actually think the culottes are fabulous for us older women. Younger women look great in them too, but let me tell you how great these have been on my mom!

For one thing, they aren’t as tight, so my mom feels more comfortable in them. And since they have a different silhouette than what we’ve been wearing lately, they are super fun! I can totally see these with boots in the winter, since I’m always trying to make pieces more versatile!! And it’s not like you have to spend a ton for a pair of these. I found this pair on sale and this pair is great too!

I’m sure we all have a ton of denim in our closets, since it seems like it’s the staple of stores lately!! So pairing a camo piece with denim is truly a modern take on masculine style! What do you think?

Thanks to one and all of you for your support. It means more than you know!
