Athletic Shoes & Leggings Are Not Just for Youngins
Athletic shoes and leggings are good for all women. Have you defined who you are, by your outward appearance? Not that I think we should judge a book by it’s cover, but it’s only human nature to evaluate anything by how it looks. That’s why marketing is so important for merchandise, right? So just think of yourself as a precious commodity, and clothe yourself that way!
Quote of the day: “Don’t think about who you have been. Who are you now? Who have you decided to become?” Anthony Robbins
On our quest to style our athletic shoes, we are now showing them with leggings. I found out after publishing an article in Sixty + Me about leggings (here) that most women love them beyond belief!! It was shocking to me, I have to admit, since I had only started wearing them once I started blogging. But that goes to show how much I don’t know, ha ha! However, I’m sure everyone wears jeans, so feel free to check out how we gave some pizzazz to the jeans & sneakers, here.
But just because you’re wearing leggings and sneakers, doesn’t mean you have to look like you came straight from the gym, unless you are coming from the gym! Let’s welcome two of my readers, Jude, & Karen, below, who are joining along in this athletic shoe theme!!
Jude (blogette): So if you are coming from the gym, or yoga studio, why not have some fun athletic shoes like, Jude!!
The converse sneakers come in so many different fun colors and prints! Like bright orange ones, here or metallic gold, here or even a print, here!
Karen (blogette): Karen said her sister suggested wearing the hat, and I like how it adds a little punch to her outfit!!
I have to admit, that if this shirt is a workout shirt, then I might be more motivated to work out!! The color and fit is so perfect!!
Jodie’s (50’s) Outfit: I was trying to come up with a way to showcase how you could go straight from the gym to run an errand and still look put together. One of my ideas was to have a fun vest in the car at all times, that you could quickly throw on as the focal point.
Ever since these long vests came on the market, I’ve been a huge fan! In fact, the three of us did a blog series about long vests here, here & here!
And don’t you think this would be an easy item to throw on that could make any workout wear look better? Of course yours wouldn’t have to be so bright like this one. But if you do like color there are so many different types in many different colors. Like a subdued one here, or print one here, or bright one here!
Of course I got carried away and had to add in a scarf and earrings to my outfit, so there went the idea of adding only one piece to make your workout wear street smart- LOL!
But would it be bad to carry a scarf in your car all the time too? The only thing about this idea is then I wouldn’t have those particular items to style for other days. Yet if I were realistic, I would realize I have many other items that would work!!
Seriously though, scarves can be an easy addition to any outfit for many reasons. Need some color up by your face? There’s a scarf for that! Too much print on your shirt for your comfort? There’s a scarf for that. Too much skin showing in your v-neck shirt? There’s even a scarf for that!
And I know, I’ve addressed the arm warmers many times in the past, and here I am wearing them again. They may seem like a winter item, but I feel like they work even better in the transitional seasons.
In the winter you probably layer because it is really cold. But I know, for me, the spring days will start off cool, and then get much warmer by midday. So the arm warmers are that extra layers without taking something off over your head! I even reworked the DIY Arm Warmers post, here recently, so I wouldn’t mind if you checked it out and gave me your thoughts!
These are my LuLaRoe leggings that I purchased this winter. I’m sure most of you have heard about this company by now.
I realize that many older women would not consider print leggings as part of their outfit. Sure, maybe for pilates class or the gym, but not for running errands. And I’m still on the fence about them. I really did love wearing them under my skirt, here.
But if I’m rational about it, what’s the huge difference between print pants and print leggings, right? So have a gander at some fun, print leggings here and here. And if we think about the fact that you could wear them for your fitness class and for everyday, then you’re being versatile with your clothing!

Nancy’s (60’s) Outfit: For Nancy’s outfit with her leggings & sneakers, she chose her bedazzled tunic that she bought in Vegas when we were on our Christmas holiday together.
She wore this tunic during our white jean series here. So now you can compare the same tunic with dark leggings, and white jeans. Do you have a preference?
Since tunics are the perfect addition to leggings, I thought I’d show you some other fun ones. This one would be perfect for the summer time! And for those of you who like their print tops, this one is lovely! Of course, I couldn’t leave out anyone, so here’s a solid colored one for the warm weather!
Since the tunic has a lot of rhinestone beads at the top portion of it, she pulled out her rhinestone jewelry too!
Now there’s another old fashioned rule for you! Don’t wear rhinestones before 6pm! Anyone else remember that one? Well for those of you who like their sparkles all day and every day, boy do I have some fun items! A gorgeous necklace is something that will never go out of style, here. Or chokers are definitely a modern item right now! Then there are the longer necklaces, that will add that vertical dimension that most of us crave!
As for the other accessories, check out these two bracelets for bling, here & here. And then for your ears, you could go long, here! Or if you prefer short, here!
And I’ll let you in on a little secret. These leggings are Nancy’s work out ones! But they are more lightweight than her other ones, and really look just as good!
So does it matter if your leggings are yoga pants or “real” leggings? Is there really a difference? I feel like the only real aspect to care about is how they feel when you’re moving. You don’t want them too thin that you can see through them, and you want them to have enough give so you can stretch how you need to! So go ahead and wear your workout leggings around. These are nice because they cover your belly! Or these could be fun with a black tunic!
Here’s a great view of all of the bling on the back of Nancy’s shirt too. I know most of us really concentrate about how we look from the front, but there are just as many people that see us from behind, right?
I have to just show you some of the fun shirts out there that have an interesting view from the back! Here’s one fun example or here’s another one! Now you may say to me, how do I keep my bra from showing? And that could be a concern. Then you get this one instead!!

Charlotte’s (70’s) Outfit: Now we have all heard that the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree, right? So here is where I get my love of accessories! Not only did my mom make her scarf, but she has a gadget to add to the scarf!! Check out the video below to see a different way to tie an infinity scarf!
I could see how there would be two different camps about infinity scarves. There could be those people that love them because they don’t have to figure them out! And then there could be those women that think they are too boring! Do you fall into one of these categories?
Either way, there are certainly some pretty designs for these scarves. Of course, there are colorful print ones like this, neutral printed ones here, and solid colored ones here!
Now my mom’s leggings aren’t quite as tight as what most people think leggings should be. The only reason for that is because she bought them bigger so they wouldn’t be as tight.
For those of you that don’t love the idea of clothing so tight to your rear, then this could be the easy way around it! Just because you normally take a medium size, why not order the large for a little more room? No other person in this world will know what size your leggings are, right?
And if you’re interested in trying out some leggings for the summer months, I put together some options at the bottom of the post!! Tell me your favorites!!
I do love the bright color shirt that we added under this tunic. I know my mom usually gravitates towards a black shirt with it, but the pink looks better nearer her skin, I think!
Most of us aren’t ones that would make our own t-shirt. Even if I could, I’m not sure I’d spend the time for this item. I mean, look…I can buy one here or here for under $10
The tunic is a creation of my mother’s doing!! Of course, where else would you find a tunic that has sewing paraphernalia all over it?
I will be honest and say, it’s not my favorite piece of hers. Only because of the material that was used to make it. It’s a burlap material, and because of this it’s very stiff. You don’t notice it as much when she’s standing up, but when she sits, the material bunches up!
But that doesn’t mean I can’t find a fun tunic that wouldn’t bunch up for you! Like this one is under $10 or this one has embroidery!
Now here’s my mom in a video showing how she styled her infinity scarf! Cheer her on by giving it a thumbs up on You Tube!!

Leggings and sneakers can be dressed up to look great on any age, don’t you think? Or as I like to say, add in bling, color & accessories and you can’t go wrong!
