Ways to wear linen in summer

Attractive Options of Linen in Summer with the Magnificent 8

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

If you live where it gets hot outside, then you know the advantage of wearing linen in summer. Some people have a love/hate relationship with the material because of the wrinkling. But you know I have a thing or two to say about that, haha.

Quote of the day: “Life is like a landscape. You live in the midst of it but can describe it only from the vantage point of distance.” Charles Lindbergh

Now let’s talk about the reality of talking about linen in summer right now. The stores are all gearing up for fall already, so you can find some fabulous deals on these pieces. And most of us will be experiencing summer temperatures for at least another month or two. So you can wear them right away.

Embracing Linen

The quote seems very apropos for the subject of linen in summer and that love/hate relationship that many have with the material. We love it for the natural fibers yet many still struggle with the fact that it wrinkles.

What I want us all to think about is WHO decided that wrinkles were bad?? If you start to look at them differently, then maybe you can change the conversation.

Wrinkles could just as wonderfully be called happy lines or fun creases. Would that change your outlook on them??

One of my mottos has been to embrace not only the wrinkles on my face but also in my clothes. Now, I don’t go out of my way to get my clothes wrinkly. Just like I try to be good to my skin with daily maintenance.
But wrinkles happen. Especially when we explore our area and take photos after we’ve traveled to places.

And linen is one of those materials that tend to wrinkle because of the properties of the fabric. Why fight it? Do you look at these photos and think the outfits are awful because of the wrinkles?? If not, then you shouldn’t stress about the wrinkles as part of your outfits either.

Insider tip: A print item will not show wrinkles as much as a solid-colored item. The proof is my print shorts. The wrinkles are there, but I don’t think they are as noticeable.

As an Arizonan native, Cathie knows a thing or two about surviving the hot summers. That’s why she has quite a variety of linen clothing.

Both her shorts and top are linen pieces and until you experience the 110-degree days, you don’t always realize how certain material can make a difference.

I would like to add that Old Navy does have some great options for linen things.

And don’t you love the color combination of mustard yellow, white, and leopard?

Personally, I did not understand the love affair with linen until we moved to Arizona with the summers being what they are. Not that I only purchase linen things now, but I definitely keep an eye out for them especially when thrifting.

Not purposely, but Cathie and I both had the same idea. We combined both a linen top and linen shorts. One difference is my top is a linen/cotton blend which you do see quite often.
I do believe it’s fabulous to wear your linen in summer with other materials too. For instance, these shorts would pair wonderfully with a silk camisole for a dressier look.

Since my overall pieces were neutral, I added color to the outfit with my accessories and footwear. In fact, my shoes were the inspiration for my choice of accessories.

Insider tip: My “belt” is a self-belt from a top from long ago. I recommend removing all self-belts and storing them with your normal belts so you can wear them with other things.

I’m sure you’ve all heard of the term “Coastal Grandmother” that is making its way around social media. Think Diane Keaton in many of her movies with the idea of linen in summer.

Well, Lesley decided to give a nod to the Coastal Granny except that she jazzed it up with some color. I think wearing a linen blouse like this is the perfect kind of topper that we need for going inside the air-conditioned stores and restaurants.

I love how Lesley embraces shorts no matter the fact that she is over 50. You can see her in jean shorts too.

The piece de resistance is the turquoise in the necklace and purse which really goes to show how accessories can liven up any look.

Now my mom is one of those people that worries about the fact that linen wrinkles so much. Yet her pants don’t seem all that wrinkled to me. The secret?? There are linen blends out there that don’t crease as much.

If you really love the idea of linen in summer but just hate the wrinkles, I know Chicos has no-iron linen pieces. What I have heard is that they use chemicals to make the linen be this way, so there is always a tradeoff, right?

Charlotte is a huge owl fan and collector, so when I saw this shirt at Goodwill for only $1, I had to get it for her. Now I know my mother doesn’t usually wear sleeveless shirts, hoodies, OR tops with cutouts in them. Yet, look how she made it work with a t-shirt under it.
In fact, I think that smile says it all.

BTW, I figured if she wouldn’t wear the shirt, I would!!
