Brutal Honesty About Covered Perfectly Tops

I had a reader ask my true opinion about the Covered Perfectly shirts recently. And I can understand that when you see items showcased on a blogger’s site, you may not be sure how well they would work for you or if the blogger is saying nice things just because the company gave them the clothing. So let me be brutally honest about everything I know about our shirts! One of the things I like about this company is they are constantly updating their products and trying to keep us older women looking fantastic. Therefore they sent us 3 more products to try out and style for you to check out!  And then Cathy, from My Side of 50 just recently styled this one!

First let me start with the fabric that Covered Perfectly uses for most of their pieces. The material is called MicroModal and it’s used primarily, because it’s super-soft, and breathable, which is important when we are having power surges. I like it because it doesn’t wrinkle so it’s not a clothing item I need to iron; you just hang it to dry. Honestly, it’s really what most of us would consider a t-shirt material with a little sheen. So is it extra special? Maybe not, but it’s what most of us like and are used to for shirts!

Secondly, I’ll tell you that these shirts are sized pretty generously. Therefore if you’re petite like the 3 of us, then you might feel overwhelmed in many of the shirts. Truly, that’s why I ordered this particular shirt for Nancy, below, because of the banding at the bottom. I figured she would be able to put the band up higher on the trunk of her body instead of it covering her crotch. Truthfully, for my body, I wish they had an XS size available. However, I realize not everyone is petite, and the best thing about a shirt that’s too long, is that it can be altered  and made shorter.

And thirdly, they do give commission to us bloggers, if you purchase from one of our links. Is that bad? Truthfully, it’s not something I could make a living off of but, it can certainly help with all of the time it takes to take photos, upload the pictures, write the post, link all of the items all while trying to be entertaining and truthful!! However, if a reader returns a product, then you are also docked that amount.

How was that for brutal honesty? If you are interested in ever purchasing one of their shirts, let me tell you that this is the time to do it. Covered Perfectly is celebrating their 4th year in business and are offering some discounts on certain shirts. Check the bottom of the post for which ones and the code to use!!

Jodie’s (50’s) Outfit: When I received this cardigan, I knew I’d pair it with my white jeans!!

Since spring is in the air, I figured the white would lighten the outfit nicely, and I tend to reach for my white jeans more than any other in my closet!!

Styling Clothes for Women over 50

Since I was dealing with a bad hair day, I threw on this hat. The history of this hat is that used to be my mother’s!! Usually I would have worn sandals, but the weather wasn’t quite that warm. Therefore, I grabbed my peep toe booties since I thought they’d match the color of the hat!

Dressing Stylish for Women over 50

I added in a scarf because I wanted to add in a little more color to this neutral palette!! So I grabbed this skinny scarf that my mom had made for me many years ago! I even showed 3 different ways to style this kind of scarf last week on the blog!!

Style for Older Women

Sometimes I crack myself up trying to figure out different ways to wear an item!! I’m showing you 2 more ways to style this jacket in the video below!

Nancy’s (60’s) Outfit: Nancy was originally going to pair this shirt with her mint green jeans!

But our friend who was over at the time, thought the shirt looked too dressy with those jeans! So Nancy changed to her white jeans! For some reason, white jeans can look a tad dressier we decided. Besides the white pops the color of the blue shirt so nicely!

Style & Fashion for Women over 60

This shirt boasts  bell sleeves to add interest to it!

I’m not sure if you know this or not, but sleeves are all the rage right now on the fashion scene. If your sleeves have ruffles, or some kind of detail, then you are in the know!! That’s the other reason I picked this shirt for Nancy. I know she doesn’t have any shirts with fun sleeves, so I thought it’d be a great variation for her wardrobe!

Over 60 Fashion

You can see how the sleeve length is just below the elbow, which is part of the idea of being perfectly covered.

All of the shirts that Covered Perfectly sells have 3/4 length long sleeves except for a couple of long sleeved shirts and their tanks & vests. But if you look through their collection, that’s the style you’ll notice the most!

If you like having your upper arms covered then this is right up your alley! If you happen to like shorter sleeves on your tops, then this could be a deal breaker for you!

Charlotte’s (70’s) Outfit: I thought my mom might appreciate this shirt because it’s more style forward.

The cutouts up the length of the arm look great on any aged woman! My mom isn’t the hugest fan of the open shoulder shirts, but she actually liked these cut outs on this shirt. The openings give the shirt some ventilation without exposing your entire arm!

Fashion for Women over 70

Just like with any of the Covered Perfectly shirts, they are made a tad longer than you find at the stores.

My mom is the tallest of us three at 5’4″, so this shirt fits her like a tunic would fit. I ordered my mom her normal size and it fits great in the chest and arms!

Since it has a nice flare to the bottom of it, we styled it with a pair of gold leggings. Either leggings or any skinnier jean would look good with this shirt!

Here is a close up of the cut outs on the arm.

They have a cute twist between each of the openings and it’s a 3/4 length sleeve just like Nancy’s!

We wanted to keep the focal point on the shirt, but we had to add in a floral scarf! These shirts are a perfect blank canvas for any scarf or fun necklace in your closet!

  • I see nothing wrong with making your living this way! Lovely.

  • I really like the length. My question is whether this fabric is the type to cling in a questionable way…like against my bra lines on my not slender back. Yours seemed roomy, perhaps that is not an issue!

    • They don’t seem to cling for either my mom or Nancy either. The whole idea for this company is to make us older women feel good about the changes in our bodies, so most of the shirts tend to flow away enough!!
Like if you compare my mom’s shirt in our recent post: you can see how it clings (especially in the photo from the rear), yet not in this post. And she’s wearing a medium in both companies shirts!

  • Austin Hodgens

    Looking good, ladies!

    • Jodie Filogomo

  • Terri Webster Schrandt

Looks like they have a variety of styles! I really liked Charlotte’s top with the cutouts. I have something similar from chicos 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

I do love the sleeve details that are everywhere right now!! And what a perfect way to stay covered—yet not!

  • Thanks for sharing your honest review of the tops. That is a bummer they don’t offer smaller sizing, but I suppose there are so many brands geared only towards smaller sizes that many people would appreciate that.
    Chic on the Cheap

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s true…I mean how can a small company makes every size imaginable?? I certainly think that would be a nightmare!!

  • Laura

I definitely appreciate your honesty about these shirts! They sound like really good purchases and I love the sound of the fabric!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Laura!!!

  • You look fab in this Bell sleeved top Jodie. What I am surprised about is that I can’t see any blogger has commented on the fact that you won’t receive any commision.
When are companies going to realise that they need us more than we need them? I think bloggers should be paid to show brands as well as keep the items. They just don’t get the hard work involved do they?

    • Jodie Filogomo

You really make such a great point Laurie!! I know I’m finally getting to the point where I realize that my time is worth something. I know at first I wanted the experience, but now???

  • such great looks put together hun love it!! will surely share this with my mom!!
    kisses from the sandpit ❤︎

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Mahryska!! I’m sure your mom will love it!

  • The fabric in these tops looks as comfy as an old friend. The colors are so vibrant and the styling so trendy and contemporary. Love how Charlotte’s top has a little sass in the open-work of those sleeves and Nancy’s sleeves are just plain flirty and fun. And you could make a burlap sack look stylish. Love what you do in the video with the cardi. Appreciate the generous length in the back of that darling tank. I want all of these looks for my very own.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Leslie—you made me laugh with that burlap sack comment!!!

  • This was a great post. I loved all the styles here especially, the colours are so pretty. Defiantly a nice way to mix your style especially for the summer 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Heather!!

  • You all look fabulous in your Covered Perfectly shirts! And since I’m tall, I think the longer length is great! 🙂

    Andrea’s Wellness Notes

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s exactly the benefit of the longer shirts, Andrea!! It’s got to be a nightmare for a company to try to please everyone, and at least when you are short, there’s an option to shorten them!!

  • I love your boots Jodie! And Nancy s shoes are fabulous too! And your mothers sleeves are fantastic. All of these shirts are great!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Nancy!!

  • Judy Gramith

You all look fabulous in your outfits. The shirts appear comfy, fit each of you well and have a lovely drape. No ironing is always a bonus!!
Nancy is a favorite this time. She looks so pretty in her cobalt blue shirt and shoes!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Don’t you just love the bright blue on Nancy—-and I think it’s fun that she had shoes that basically match!! She’ll be excited that you liked this Jude, because it was all her!!

      • Nancy is my favorite, except on the days that Charlotte is my favorite.

  • The shirts are lovely, although I think that bright cobalt one has to be my favourite 🙂 It’s good to know you speak so highly of the company.

Hope you are having a great weekend 🙂

    Away From The Blue Blog

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Mica!!
That blue color really stands out nicely, huh?
Have a fantastic rest of the weekend!! We are hoping to get out for a walk today! 🙂

  • Tina von tinaspinkfriday

Jodie, all shirts look beautiful and comfortable. I like to wear Shirts 🙂
I wish you a great weekend. XO Tina

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Tina!!!
I hope your weekend is fabulous too!!

  • Hi Jodie,

I loved your article. I love the way your mom styled the t-shirt. I think my mom and grandma would love them. Do you know if they ship internationally. It would be an amazing present for Mother’s Day!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I bet your mom & grandma would love these shirts. However..I checked and they only ship to US & U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam!
      Thanks for stopping by Miri!!

      • Thank you for checking, Jodie. That is a shame. Anyway, you inspired me (I will look for a similar t-shirt in Switzerland), thank you for that. 😉

  • Amy D. Christensen

I would say your honesty was anything but brutal, Jodie. Sounds like this brand is a good purchase for many of us older gals as the cuts are forgiving, and the fabric soft and comfy. You all look great in your outfits. I like the cardi you have on and really like the sleeves on both Nancy’s and your Mom’s. Thanks for the review. Hope your are having a great weekend. – Amy

    • Jodie Filogomo

I guess brutal usually means bad, huh? But there I do admit that the length isn’t my favorite about most of these shirts. However—thinking about the company’s perspective–how can you carry everything? So at least I can usually shorten or alter them if they need it! I was pleasantly surprised that my cardigan wasn’t too large though—I’ll be wearing it a ton!!

  • This is a fantastic review and style presentation! I passed on this brand before because of the length of the shirts. I did not realize they had vests and jackets, too. I appreciate that their size charts give lengths, too.

I’ve only worn modal in a cotton/modal blend, very old from Talbots. It’s still super soft after all these years. Not so with spandex blends — after a number of washings they sometimes bubble.

Nancy looks wonderful in her blue top and you let her wear matching shoes! Charlotte and you look great, too. This is a very helpful post.

    • Jodie Filogomo

That’s so interesting to know about the spandex blends, Jean!! I’ll have to keep an eye out for that, because that could be very annoying!
I liked Nancy’s shoes with this—I’m glad you did too!! I’m not always against matching—in fact I think I veer to it too much—that’s why I push us away from it at times!!!
ps..thanks again for joining us with your hats—you’ll see them on Monday!!!

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

SO many different tops and I agree they are like a blank canvas! I think my favorite is the one with the little cut outs on the sleeves and then I like the bell sleeved one (but, not sure if the bell sleeves would be too much on my arms). I love tops that have a little more length to them!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It sure is nice to have longer tops when you need them!! That’s why I don’t complain when they are too long—it’s so much easier to shorten them than to try to lengthen them. And it’s virtually impossible to have every size for every woman.

  • Jo

I periodically explore the Covered Perfectly site, especially after a blogger wears one of the tops, but I haven’t ordered because their color selections/patterns don’t flatter my “deep autumn” complexion, at barely 5’2″, the lengths were too long, and the styles seem more for apple shapes as they are more voluminous below the breasts. I need to cover my upper arms, so I’d love to try one…hint to offer more flattering colors, shorter lengths, and more form fitting styles.

    • Jodie Filogomo

It’s true—they are probably more for the apple shaped woman—-and out of the 3 of us, that would probably be Nancy more than mom or me.
But I have to think that as a company, it would be hard to have styles for every woman out there. At least as a smaller company.
That’s why I don’t mind having to shorten items—at least it’s a pretty easy fix as long as I choose the correct style. I was surprised that my cardigan didn’t seem as overwhelming as I was worried it might be! And I’m 5’2″ also!

      • Jo

One of my wisest purchases has been the Brother CV 2340 Cover Stitch machine! It duplicates the commercial hems on knits. I’m sure it has paid for itself in unspent tailoring costs! An inch or two (or three or four…) makes a big difference in proportions when one is short!

        • Jodie Filogomo

Ahhhhh….you’re a seamstress Jo!! Isn’t it so freeing to be able to alter our clothes. My mom has the serger, but since she’s only 5 minutes away—I’m over there shortening things a ton. At least some things I can do myself on my sewing machine—but not the knit tops!!

  • Cheryl Tucker

I love the brutal truth! I think they are lovely tops and I see them on so many blogs so they must be popular! Great post Jodie! Peace!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Cheryl!
I know there are pros & cons to every clothing item out there—that’s at least how I look at it. Especially since each of our bodies are so different!!

  • Nice review! I agree about sizes, but the fabric is delicious! You all look fabulous. 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

And it’s funny, because I’m not a fabric girl—-I don’t notice the feel of them much!! Yet, I know how some women are all about that!
But it’s nice to support Made in the US, and small businesses on top of that!!

  • I love your are such a doll! Great post! Cant wait to meet you fierce sista!!xo

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks so much Valerie!!
So you got the email for Seattle??? We’ll be best buds by then because we get to meet each other in June in LA too!! 🙂

  • Linda Hobden

I do like the cardigan that you’re wearing Jodie – the open toe boots look fab with the white jeans too. I have tops similar to the blue top and I have just bought a floral tunic dress with those flared three quarter sleeves – I don’t normally buy sleeved clothes for summer (prefer sleeveless) but actually the dress is quite cool & airy. 😊

    • Jodie Filogomo

Sometimes I think sleeves get a bad wrap, Linda!! If they aren’t super tight, it’s like they aren’t there at all!!
I can’t wait to see your new dress…you’ll show us soon, right?

  • Jodie,
Nice to see your review of the Covered perfectly top. I have noticed many bloggers writing about the tops but I appreciate seeing the 3 age groups wearing them. Lovely!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Robin!!
I love being able to show more than one generation—hopefully looking fabulous!! XOXO

  • donnanance

Several bloggers wear the Covered Perfectly tops but you are the first to tell the pros and cons of the garments. Love the outfits on all three of you gals…well styled.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Donna!!
Because really there’s a good point and bad point about every piece of clothing, right? That’s how I used to describe any dental treatment….

  • Janice Harper Jones

I have one of these tops that I have had for about 3 years. I wonder if they have changed the material because mine wrinkles. If not for that, I would have ordered more for travel. I love the way you styled them. Need to look some more, I guess! Thanks, Jodie!

    • Jodie Filogomo

That is so interesting Janice! So I looked on their site and there is the micro modal material and then some that are cotton/polyester!
The ones that I’ve had are the micro modal and I pull them out of the dryer after the dryer is totally done. I know Nancy is better about pulling her shirts out when they are still damp and hand ironing them flat on her bed—-I’m way too lazy for that.

  • Rhona Crouthamel

Really appreciate your honesty about this company. I’ll be honest that I never really considered them because #1 – I tend towards more fitted styles and #2 – I did get the impression that their sizes ran large and an XS is usually a must for me, and in a few of my fave stores even an XXS. But, I really think you’ve done a fabulous job with these tops! Love your entire look Jodie! Gives a little nod to boho, which I love! Really works on you!
That blue is gorgeous on Nancy! So flattering! And I love her jewelry! And it really is all about sleeves right now, isn’t it? I love this trend…so fun!
And your mom looks just lovely! The color combo is wonderful! And those sleeves are amazing!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I can totally understand that Rhona!! I usually go for the more fitted things too, but I have been trying to change things up at times, so that’s why I was open to try these!!
But maybe with more women requesting XS, the company will consider it??

  • Karen Anderson

I was interested in this brand, and had considered the bell sleeved top Nancy is wearing. I’m a big fan of the sleeve trend! I appreciate your review and your honesty about it. I thought by looking at the website that the tops ran large, and you confirmed that. I like how you styled your cardigan different ways and like it tied low in front like you did. I like the sleeve detail on your mom’s top also. The little twists make it unique. And Cathy’s top is really flattering on her and I do like the red color. I’m still deciding on the brand but was glad to see an honest review. My main concern is the volume of material, but I sure do get the concept, and they are definitely meeting a need!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Karen!!
It’s true that every clothing piece can’t work for all of us, right? And I think I did much better picking out tops for us this time…I don’t have to alter any of them!!
