Ways to wear color in spring

A Casual Spring Outfit with Jeans for Women Over 50 with the Ageless Style Linkup

Styling a casual spring outfit with jeans is a perfect way to welcome in the new season. As part of our Ageless Style group, Shelly came up with the theme to Spring Forward. I know this can be a strange season depending where you live. But let’s talk about the obvious ways to make your outfit ready for spring.

Quote of the day: “‘Life is short’ really means, ‘Do something.'” Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This quote caught my eye because I feel like there are still many women out there, that shy away from colors. Life really is short, and while neutrals are wonderful and have their place, I always feel like spring is a renewal time. Renewal can mean the time to start wearing color again after the long, winter muted clothing.

I’m glad both Charlotte and Lesley embrace color too. You can see Lesley with bright colors for this theme and my mom with pastels along with some print mixing.

What a Spring Outfit with Jeans Means to Me

For starters I always think of color when I think of spring. Granted, I have been trying very hard to incorporate color into every season, but it seems easier when the warmer weather rolls around.

Yet orange is usually on my radar for fall, not spring. However, I found this sweater at Savers recently and was surprised that it was orange and pink combined. Even for me who is very adventurous with color combinations, I don’t think I’d tried this one before.

Insider tip: I consider orange a very underappreciated color except at Halloween. If you have a piece, I suggest holding it next to all other items in your closet to see how it would look with other colors. I bet you might be surprised at how wonderful it pairs with not only pink, but also yellow and burgundy.

Kuel Life

Maybe you noticed the fun graphic tee I’m sporting under this cardigan? It’s from Kuel Life where I will be writing an expert article every quarter. I hope you sign up for their newsletters because there is an amazing group of women contributing to this site. If you missed it, I was interviewed earlier this year.

Adding a Different Color with your Accessories

First I’d like to thank Lesley for gifting me the necklace and earrings. They used to be her mother’s set, and since Lesley doesn’t like green, she never wore them. The earrings used to be a clip on style, yet had been changed to posts. However, because they are bigger, they hung down from my earlobe. In fact, my mom kept warning me they were falling off all day. They weren’t actually falling off, yet that’s what it looked like.

Insider tip: If you have larger or heavier earrings, there are these posts called Magic Bax, that have more surface area. They are very helpful to keep the larger earrings next to your earlobe.

Your accessories are there to stand out and be a fun part of your outfit. That’s why I think we should not always match them to everything else, but add in a totally different color. If I wore an orange necklace and earrings with this look, they would only blend in and not stand out.

Jeans and Shoes

As for thinking about which kind of jeans to wear for this day, I decided to pick out a lighter pair. This pair is a high waisted pair which worked out well with this sweater. On this day, we didn’t get a good view of the back, so click over to Instagram and see how the hem of this cardigan curves up.

While I can’t wait to wear my sandals, it’s not quite warm enough even here in Arizona. That’s why these loafers were perfect. I bypassed the ankle boots for styling as part of this spring outfit with jeans, and showed some bare foot. And be on the look out in a future post as for why loafers are a trend you should embrace.

Insider tip: These kinds of driving loafers with the rubber pebbles can provide nice cushion and stability when walking on uneven ground.

Purse Options for Touring

It’s no secret that I’m in love with my yellow belt bag which you witnessed for every excursion on our cruise. However, I do like to change it up occasionally, and that’s where my backpack comes in. The disadvantage of a backpack is it’s not as secure from pickpockets. Luckily, that isn’t a huge concern in our community.

I know most women prefer a cross body purse, but I will confess that I don’t love how it cuts across my girls and exaggerate them when I wear it across my body. Along with sometimes messing up the collar of my top.

Insider tip: I wracked my brain to figure out a better option than a cross body purse or belt bag and all I could come up with was pockets. Now my mother wouldn’t like that option because then you would have lumps on your body. But if you remember the Go2 compression leggings we showcased recently, those pockets would hold almost everything you needed. And if you wore a long cardigan, like Lesley did, you might not notice the lumps.

The Jacket With a Spring Outfit with Jeans

I feel like a jacket is something that is still essential for spring no matter where you live. Even here in the mornings, it’s quite cool and can be uncomfortable without some kind of topper.

There are a couple of modern lightweight jackets that work for women of any age. One is the jean jacket. It’s wonderful because they come in every color now. Another great option are these utility jackets.

Insider tip: Don’t discount the “younger” girls stores when looking for some of these basics. They can have fabulous pieces for women of any age.

These prescription, red glasses that transition to sunglasses were gifted to me from Voogue Me. I have since purchased another pair of glasses from their site because they have such interesting and inexpensive ones. I talked about this company in a blog post about online glasses. At the time they were offering a $5 discount to my readers using the code jodie. I’m not sure the offer still applies, but if you’re ordering, it can’t hurt to try it.

We took these photos at the Queen Creek Olive Mill. They had an interesting tour where we learned more about olive trees, how the olives are harvested and the important factors when purchasing olive oil. Our day at the Olive Mill was not sponsored, but if you’re in the area, it’s definitely a great activity.
