Celebrating women over 50 with AARP healthcare provider discounts

Celebrate Savings at Every Age with AARP Member Benefits

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

Celebrate Savings at Every Age with AARP Member Benefits

With each birthday celebration, the three of us realize that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is so important. Granted, cake may not be your definition of a healthy lifestyle, but we indulge occasionally, LOL! Today, we are sharing some valuable health-related discounts that are part of using our AARP member benefits.

Quote of the day: “If you have your health, you have everything” Lucy Citra (Rob’s grandmother)

It’s no secret that we enjoy saving money with our secondhand and sale shopping obsessions. The quote from Rob’s grandmother above says it all and yet there’s no sense spending extra money if there are discounts available.

Lesley chimes in by sharing: “Didn’t we all have the motto (when we were teens or very early twenties) ‘Don’t trust anyone over 30!’  Oh my, how our thinking changes as we get into our 50s, 60s 70+++s.

After the passing of several loved ones, I really celebrate each birthday for the gift that my life truly is. Age is no longer relevant. This is why we are all thankful to have access to AARP member benefits to help us continue to manage our health and save money as we age.

Glasses

We all know how expensive prescription glasses can be especially when we begin to need progressive lenses as birthdays add up. My mother, Charlotte, never needed glasses as a child, and it wasn’t until she was in her 60’s that she needed them to read. She went through a phase of wearing readers with a chain around her neck (and yes, she had chains to match every outfit). Now she purchases glasses with the farsighted aspect that also have transition lenses by using her AARP member benefits.

With your AARP membership, you can take advantage of AARP® Vision Discounts provided by EyeMed at participating retailers, independent providers, and even online. Here are the ways you can save:

1– 50% on prescription lenses with the purchase of frames at LensCrafters.
2– At Target Optical where you get to save an additional $10 on a complete pair of glasses.
3– Glasses.com you can save 30% on a complete pair (frames and lenses).

Personally, the three of us don’t leave home without our glasses. In fact, we consider our glasses “eye candy” or as another wonderful accessory. Finding discounts, so we can have frames in many colors and styles, only makes every outfit a better look!

Discounts on Prescriptions

Sometimes the most expensive part of our healthcare is the prescriptions and medications that we need. In fact, there was a time when we had first moved to Arizona, that I was in between insurance coverage and needed a prescription filled. Luckily, I used my AARP Prescription Discount card provided by OptumRx®, which brought the cost of my prescriptions down dramatically.

You can get a free prescription discount card from AARP® Prescription Discounts provided by OptumRx® that can be used at over 66,000 pharmacies nationwide for saving on all FDA-approved medications. The program is open to anyone, but there are additional benefits for AARP members, including deeper discounts on medications, home delivery, coverage for dependents, and more.

If you’re already purchasing prescriptions, this is an easy and affordable way to save money. Now that’s something to celebrate!

Hats off to healthcare provider discounts

Hearing

One of the things that happen as our birthdays accumulate is the fact that our hearing may not be as sharp as it used to be. Both Lesley and Charlotte wear hearing aids and realize what a huge difference they make in the overall quality of their lives. Truthfully, it helps both Rob and I the most so we don’t have to repeat things as often, haha!

Lesley admits: “Hearing aids these days are all but invisible so I don’t feel a bit self-conscious wearing them. I did at first. Being able to clearly hear conversations with friends or directions from our photographer makes me realize how much I was missing when I thought myself to be too young for hearing aids.”

I remember as my mom was turning 70, she didn’t recognize that her hearing was getting worse. Luckily, she went with a friend to get her hearing checked and couldn’t believe all the conversations she had been missing. I always tell her with these little miracles, she can now hear all the jokes I’m telling in our laughing photos!!

When it comes to hearing, the AARP® Hearing Care Program provided by HearUSA offers many benefits to AARP members:

1– Savings of 20% on the retail price of hearing aids
2– A free hearing check-up
3– Free cleaning and check of current hearing aids
4- Plus a free 90-day trial for hearing aids

Charlotte and Lesley have been using their member benefits from the AARP® Hearing Care Program provided by HearUSA to help stay on top of their hearing health for each new year. And Rob and I will need to be checking it out soon enough too!
