Charlotte’s Summer Floral Dress Outfit
Another summer floral dress outfit which goes to show it’s perfect for the season.
Quote of the day: “It’s more important to have great goals, than great goal statements.” Shaun Murphy
It’s an interesting quote. Because we have been told that goals should be written down or shared! And while I believe that, I can see how this quote means “prove it.”
So we are proving that a summer floral dress outfit can work no matter what your age. I started with a romper (which basically looks like a dress), and Nancy showcased her white floral shift dress. And here is mom with a vintage midi dress. Then I discussed many ways to wear floral no matter what our age.
Charlotte is also sharing memories of her college days since we were visiting the University of Colorado for this photo shoot.

Charlotte’s Summer Floral Dress Outfit
This dress could be considered vintage. My mom thinks it’s 25 years old and even though she grew out of it, she loved the style so much that she kept it. Now that it fits again, she’s happy to wear it for our floral dress theme.
And since it’s longer in length, my mom even felt comfortable not wearing hose this day. That’s definitely an advantage to the long styles for the summer, if you don’t like showcasing your bare legs.
The necklace and earrings are a matching set that my mom picked up at an AARP convention. Of course, it won’t surprise you that she bought them at the end of the convention when they were marking everything down. It goes to show that it can pay to wait!
And the bracelet and ring are a fabulous turquoise. Nancy showcased how turquoise can add a punch of color to a totally different color last week. Yet it also looks great with varying shades of blue!
My mom bought this light blue purse when we were shopping together a couple of years ago at Macys.
Granted she was searching for a navy purse, yet this one ended up being a terrific buy. Especially since my mom wears a lot of blue and likes to match the purse to her outfit.
For those of you who don’t love sandals in the summer, I think sling backs can be a cooler option than ballet flats or sneakers. At least you have some part of the shoe open for circulation.
Along with the fact that these shoes have perforations in them. I’ve seen many different kinds of shoes with this detail like these sneakers.
Charlotte’s College Memories
My mom has lots of clothing memories from her time at Purdue in the 1950’s. She distinctly remembers that maybe women were allowed to wear slacks for Friday evening cafeteria dinners but otherwise it was dresses and skirts.
She and my father attended an annual French Waterfront party. For this party she would make a long slit in the side seam of a black skirt, wear a long sleeve dark striped, t-shirt along with a beret. In fact, she still has that beret and wore it this winter.
There was also the fraternity party where the girls could only wear 1 yard of fabric. Talk about scandalous. Especially since at that time the material was only 36″ wide. Don’t you wish my mom had a photo of that outfit?
The other thing we were discussing was that you didn’t have a back pack at the time. You had to carry your books in your arms. And one time during the rain, the color of the book bled onto my mom’s top! That’s definitely an advantage of the back packs nowadays.
What kind of parties did you attend in college? I’d love to hear the variety!
