3 different colorful sneakers

Colorful Sneakers-Comparing Matching VS Non-Matching Outfits

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

After successfully styling various denim styles for my daily outfits, I thought it would be fun to style colorful sneakers. Of course, I couldn’t stop there. Then I decided to compare the same sneakers with 2 different outfits, one where the sneakers matched and the other where they didn’t, per se.

Quote of the day: “The most effective form of learning is practice.” Anonymous

With these colorful sneaker ideas, I wanted to present different colorful options, so I included pastel sneakers, bright sneakers, and print sneakers. All to give you loads of inspiration.

And the reason for the 2 different outfits with the same pair of sneakers was to give you various ideas of how to style them.
If you’re anything like me, you get into ruts about styling…even styling the things we like. So I thought this could be a way to give you other options.

Not to say you shouldn’t also have white sneakers in your closet. I think they are just as essential and I’ve showcased many ways to wear them.

The reason I showcased the matching photos first? I thought that was the easiest way most of us would style them.

Style tip: There is no right or wrong with these photos. Even if I like one look better than another, there are oodles of more opportunities for how to style these same colorful sneakers.
I don’t want you to get stuck on only styling them 1 or 2 ways.

Light blue colorful sneakers

1-Pastel Sneakers

First, let’s start with this pair of light blue sneakers. They are the Converse brand, and I found them thrifting.
While I love the Converse brand because they are iconic, they don’t have much arch support, so they aren’t ones I wear when there is a lot of walking.

Insider tip: UNLESS I add my sole insoles. If you haven’t tried these yet, I consider them a tool of the trade because they are reusable from shoe to shoe. You don’t need a pair for each pair of shoes. I take them out after I wear them, wash them off, and keep them in a basket to use for next time.

Now let’s compare the outfits

Matching Vs Non-Matching

For all of the matching outfits, the colorful sneakers are meant to blend in, and for the non-matching outfits, they are meant to be a pop of color.

Matching with my Colorful Sneakers

The light blue dress matched my light blue sneakers pretty darn well. I even included a pair of pearl-trimmed sheer socks to add in the “extra” that I crave.
Then, I wanted to counteract the “girliness” of the dress, so I grabbed an artsy necklace (worn with burgundy before). I really liked how it followed the neckline of the dress but stood out on its own. This necklace was made by a local Mesa legendary artist, and I found it at the Mesa museum.

I also stacked a bunch of bracelets on one arm and tied the wrap ties of the dress to the side instead of the middle of my waist.

Non-Matching

Non-matching because the colorful sneakers aren’t the same color as the jeans. In fact, I’m happily surprised by how well the light blue color pops against the black jeans.
I did copy the blue color in my belt and jewelry for this example, but changed it up in the other non-matching options.

Cathie gave me these jeans recently, and I wanted to incorporate some yin/yang with the silky, dressier top.
I’ve had this blue self belt for over 10 years, and I’ve worn various blue jewelry and glasses.

Floral sneakers

2-Print Sneakers

Another example of colorful sneakers is a print version. These floral sneakers are Guess brand that I found at Goodwill years ago.

Matching Vs Non-Matching

Matching

The colors in the floral sneakers matched this print skirt almost exactly. So I created this look to wear to both our Yogalates class, as well as a massage after that. My workout shorts are under the skirt, and I’ll just remove the shrug and sneakers for our workout class.
My friend, Catherine, gave me this skirt (and matching top) when she was out here, and we both wore them together.

The graphic tee is a t-shirt I bought with our JTouchOfStyle logo on it (seen years ago worn over a dress), and I magnetized the fronts of the mini cardigan to make it more of a shrug.

Non-Matching

Non-Matching

Not only do the colorful sneakers not match the outfit, but I also resisted the urge to pull in the colors for my accessories.
I wore these camo shorts 5 different ways over 6 years ago, and it was hot on Google for years. I bought them at the thrift store because I wasn’t sure I liked the whole camo thing in fashion. But now, I realize that it’s fun to try it all.

2 of my friends also have this lime green vest, so we all wore it differently a while back. Under the vest is a strappy sports bra.

Green Cariuma sneakers

3-Bold Sneakers

These green canvas sneakers are one of my many pairs of Cariuma sneakers. I first saw these sneakers on Helen Mirren, and then I was surprised at their ethical practices as well as their price tag. It doesn’t hurt that after I bought my first pair, I kept getting coupons from the company, so I kept buying more.

What I have learned for my feet is that I need to size up a half size in the canvas ones. However, my newest leather sneakers from them run bigger, so they don’t need to be sized up.

Matching Vs Non-Matching

Matching

I chose this green and white striped dress to match the green sneakers. I wore a macrame belt (one of my faves because it fits in any place due to the open weave).
Then, I wanted a fun color pairing with it, so I wore this cardigan that I deemed essential for spring. It’s one of those toppers that is perfect for the summer when the AC is too cold in stores and restaurants. Not only that, but it’s fabulous for those weddings and fancy events when you need a wrap.

I added a blue and green scarf headband and green glasses.

Non-Matching

This is the rust polka dot skirt I wore recently with a sweatshirt. Originally, I was going to just wear the t-shirt with the skirt and sneakers, but the morning was chilly enough that I needed a topper.
I opted for this ivory cardigan that I styled upside down so it would be cropped. Want to see the cardigan styled normally?

I resisted the urge to accessorize with green, although my statement earrings do have a tinge of green in them.

Final Thoughts With Colorful Sneakers

So whether you’re the type who loves everything to coordinate perfectly or you enjoy the unexpected thrill of mixing things up, colorful sneakers can truly play both sides of the fashion game.

It’s amazing how a single pair of shoes can inspire totally different vibes depending on how you style them. Hopefully, this gives you a little inspiration to dust off those fun kicks (or maybe even grab a new pair) and start experimenting.

Because fashion should be playful, practical, and a reflection of YOU—color, style, and all!
