Complete Rustic Vacation Style: Dinner at a Dude Ranch

Our rustic vacation style comes to a close with Charlotte showcasing an outfit idea for dinner at a dude ranch. We hit upon the beach vacation last week, and explored a rustic trip this week.

Quote of the day: “Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me…Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful, that’s what matters to me.” Steve Jobs

Isn’t that what a vacation is meant to be?? Something wonderful and memorable? No matter how or where you spend your free days, it can be great for our mental health. While the memories and events are the important factors, it’s also nice to be prepared with the right clothing choices.
That’s why Lesley showcased and explained her hiking options. And I wore clothing that would work for many outdoor activities including horseback riding.

Options for rustic vacation style

Dinner on the Dude Ranch

Living in the west brings up many rustic vacation ideas including a dude ranch or even camping. Sure, most evenings could be considered extremely casual and have you in jeans and a t-shirt. But if you’re going somewhere with other people around, why not include something stylish too?

That’s why Charlotte showcased her idea of what she would wear for dinner at a dude ranch. Did you know there are dude ranches here in Arizona (here is an article describing a couple if you’re interested.) And if you look at their photos you see lots of denim, hats and boots so it seems like we hit the nail on the head!

Personal Western Vacation for Charlotte

My mom and I traveled out West one summer to visit some relatives who lived on a ranch. In fact, they had a beefalo on their property (it’s a combination of a buffalo and steer) and I’m sure this kind of outfit is something we both wore.
In fact, the proof of that vacation back in 1978 was in my vacation style post for horseback riding!

Denim

Denim anything is perfect for this kind of rustic vacation style. The material is not just fashionable in today’s age but also very durable. You certainly wouldn’t want to be sitting by the campfire in white jeans or something linen that might tear.
Jeans are always a good option, but if it’s really warm, then a cropped pair or culottes could be even better. In fact, if you are someplace very warm like Arizona, the wide leg pants are advantageous for air flow.

Insider tip: You might not be worried about being stylish on a rustic vacation as much, but if you do need options about different tops to wear with cropped pants, I wrote a post here.

Bandanna Love

Let’s talk about bandannas which are iconic for a western theme. This is one place that a silky, fashionable scarf may not seem appropriate. But a bandanna, now that’s a different story. It’s basically your silk scarf but as a cotton, casual version.
Is it functional? Of course because it can provide coverage around your neck if it gets chilly, around your nose and mouth if it gets dusty or around your hair if it gets windy!! And yet it can stay out of the way as a decoration on your purse until you need it!! What else is that magical?

Cowboy boots for vacation style

Cowboy Boots

If you are going on any kind of camping trip or visiting a ranch, boots are the way to go. Heck, even rain boots could be an option. Why a boot in the first place?? Well functionally they provide protection from the elements whether the elements are plants or animals!! Need I say more? LOL (and exactly why our next vacation posts are more my style says the squeamish girl who hates creepy, crawly things).

BTW, the cropped pants and boots go together like peanut butter and jelly. It’s nice because the shorter pants show off the boots nicely and you don’t have to worry about tucking them in.

Denim vacation style

Chambray or Plaid Shirt

I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the denim shirt. Granted they aren’t just for cowboys, as I feel like they can be a staple in everyone’s closet. Since we know that denim is basically a neutral and goes with everything, then it’s almost as versatile as the white shirt.
