A Day of Walking and Summer Event Style

A Day of Walking and Summer Event Style

Quote of the day: “With confidence, you have won even before you have started.” Marcus Garvey

With the warm weather and longer days, it’s time to consider your summer event style. There will be many occasions when the day that is planned will be fun yet include much walking!

I wanted to thank Jill for her suggestion for this post. Jill originally asked for ideas on what to wear to an amusement park. So I broadened the scope of the question by trying to make it relevant to any outdoor activity that would include a full day of walking and standing!! So join the 3 of us as we take you along on our trip to the Denver Botanic Gardens on Mother’s Day!

I think for any woman getting ready for this type of activity, the shoes are going to play a huge factor! That and wearing sunscreen or hats!! I know when I used to go to Disney World with my babysitting family, we’d also all try to wear the same outfits, so we could pick each other out in a crowd easily! How about you? What are your tricks for your summer event style?

Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: I don’t always worry so much about which shoes I’ll wear for a day of walking because I have orthotics that I can insert in many of my shoes!

My orthotics were made over 20 years ago and are a plastic material. I have to admit that I usually slide them in my tennies, but they also worked in these sandals that  I am wearing. I know otherwise some flat sandals are just as tough to walk in as heels!!

There’s always the case for Birkenstock’s too, but I just have a hard time thinking of them as a stylish shoe! Although, one thing I’ve learned is to never say never! Of course, there are other stylish, comfortable sandals too!

Comfortable shoes, hat, & crossbody bag for a day of Walking

My first consideration for this summer event style was actually my pants! I might have worn a skirt, but there was a chance of  it being a windy day. I felt like wearing capris were a better choice!

These pants were the ones I received from our #LoveChicos Girlfriend Event! If you look back at the original post, you can see that they certainly shrunk. Now this was fine for me, but my friend did not appreciate that fact. I do think the slimming pants fit wonderfully, but if you buy them at the length you want them, then you might want to be careful about shrinkage. They don’t have this print anymore, but they do have a floral print in blue!

My other big considerations for this outfit is how to keep from getting burned!

Of course, I apply sunscreen, but I also made sure to grab my straw hat! This one is easily fold-able because it was purchased for traveling on our Mediterranean cruise from many years ago. If that aspect of your head wear is important, then I found another inexpensive version!

I also added my prescription sunglasses from many moons ago. I just recently bought a new pair too, but I liked the color of these better with the outfit! Maybe next time I’ll be smarter and order my prescription pair in black so they go with everything?

Styling Outfits for a Summer Event full of Walking

After these choices, I then made sure to pick a short sleeve shirt instead of a sleeveless top.

Even though it was warm out, I didn’t want to have to worry about a sunburn on my shoulders. And I know from experience that my sunscreen rubs off from moving my purse around and just sweating too! The crisscross design is a fun detail that is very popular right now! In fact, you can find them in many colors and prints if you like this design!

I also chose this purse because I could wear it as a cross body purse! Of course it didn’t hurt that the colors went well with the outfit, LOL! These are totally the kind of purses you need for this event, so your hands can be free for other things!!

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: Nancy started her summer event style outfit differently than I did!

She wanted to wear this shirt for our outing, so that was her first pick! This type of top, I’d describe as a kimono top! It’s nice because it’s light and airy, yet still covers her and is modest. If you wanted one like this, I’d recommend either this one or this one!

It’s such the focal point of the outfit, that I wanted to showcase and talk about it more!

Capris and a flowy Top for Women 60+ and their Summer Event Style

Below is a photo showing off  the back portion of Nancy’s shirt.

You can see how it’s almost like a tank top with a sheer scarf attached over top! The 3 of us showed some examples of sheer tops last year because I think many older women like the idea of being covered, yet not being too warm!

Having a lightweight blouse for any summer event would be exactly what you need for the times you’re hanging outside at either an amusement park or any outdoor activity. I found a couple more blouses that might tickle your fancy including this one or this one!

Women 60+ with Capris

The next step for Nancy’s summer event style was her black capris since the shirt was so colorful!

She vacillated on which pair of shoes to wear for our adventure. This red pair is one of my favorites, but the incline ended up being annoying by the end of the day! It turned out fine though, because when we got tired, we just sat down and had a snack!! I do think this pair of red sandals could be super stylish, yet better for a day of walking!!

And Nancy added in her straw hat, accessories and then carried a smaller purse to complete her outfit for the outing!! I’m not sure if I’m just noticing straw hats more lately, or if they are just in abundance at the stores! I think my favorite detail lately, is the fact that some have writing on them! Or even the hats with pom poms on them are so interesting!!

Charlotte’s (70+) Outfit: And wouldn’t you know it, but my mom showed up in her capri pants also for our day!

I’m hoping that this shows the fact, that you can be stylish & comfortable in capri length pants, no matter what your age! In fact, I just submitted an article to Sixty + Me recently about this clothing item. Keep your eyes peeled for it, because I’d love it if you read and share it when it comes out!!

I just think for most of us older women, our summer event style would include capri pants for comfort and looking good!

Comfortable & Stylish for Women over 70

I really like how my mom did the half tuck with her t-shirt in for this outfit!

One of the guidelines to help make your outfit look better is to try to use the rule of thirds for the proportion with your clothing. Mom shows this nicely with the half tuck, and then you really focus on how pretty the floral capris are!

Instead of wearing a necklace for this hot day, my mom chose a t-shirt with embellishment on it’s trim! I always think this is the best idea for women who don’t love wearing accessories!! It takes a plain t-shirt and adds some fun to it easily! For example this shirt on the sides or this one around the neckline!

Summer Festivities for a full day of Walking and what to wear

Mom brought along her cross body bag also in a fabulous red to match her pants!

These purses may not be the ones you’re able to fit all of your “stuff” in for everyday, but they are perfect for these events! If you happen to need one, then a white bag would match with everything, or you could indulge in a little tassel trend!

Floral Capris for a Summer Day

Mom still has a couple pair of Keds in her closet from ages ago!

Talk about a style that has made it through the years! It seems like they do a great job updating their shoes to keep them fresh! For instance, if you’re a Minnie lover than there’s a pair for you! Or if you like perforations for some ventilation, then this pair is fun! But not only those, there are colors and metallics to keep you looking stylish!!

I had to photobomb my mom—it was such a fun day, and we all played well together!! XOXO

What to wear for an Outdoor Summer Walking Event

I hope you had fun paling around with us on our trip to the Botanic gardens!! Our summer event style was similar in nature to each other, but maybe that’s because we have so much experience about these excursions?

We were certainly tired at the end of the day, but it was a perfect family activity! You may recognize these outfits from the photo I posted in my month of May post from this trip!

Of course, if you know my husband at all, you’ll realize we finished the day off at a restaurant. Life is all about the food to him! 🙂

Thanks to one and all of you for your support. It means more than you know!

  • The Style Crone

I was so excited to see that you and Nancy wore hats to your outing at the Botanic Gardens (one of my favorite spots in Denver). The three of you look very stylish, as always. Thank you so much for sharing Nancy’s photo on Hat Attack. She looks so colorful and vibrant!

    • Thanks Judith!! It was one of those hot days, so a hat is my go-to recently!!

  • You’re all so colourful and stylish! Such feelgood photos, I bet you had a fun day 🙂

    Emma xxx

  • Love the shots of you three together! I find it challenging to dress for days like this, and since my style swings dressy anyways, building a cute, casual, and practical outfit is tough. I love your idea of printed pants. And I like that you did a printed pant in one color and a contrasting top in another color. It’s a clever combination that totally pops; plus, it’s much more interesting than standard blue jeans and a solid tee. I see you and Charlotte are both sporting crossbody bags, and that’s one of my favorite travel and site-seeing strategies! Lightweight and hands-free!

    • Jodie Filogomo

You are so right, Liz!! These days can be the funnest for the activity, but a challenge on looking good and being realistic about shoes, purses, etc… I do think that experience weighs in on this! I know I’ve worn a lot of things in the past that just didn’t work for the day!!

  • Jill Clark

Jodi, I am super slow thanking you for your posts last week. I love these outfits!! I took my kids to the Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah last week and I used your great ideas to be comfortable but felt put together. It’s so nice to have some inspiration. It makes all the difference!! We are having fun this summer and lookin’ good too! Thank you! I just love your blog!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I’m so glad you enjoyed these posts Jill, and especially the blog in general!! I can’t tell you how good that makes me feel!!
What a fabulous trip I’m sure you had last week!! And thanks for the suggestions—it’s always so fun to hear what other women are thinking about!!

  • Marci Vaughn

All three of you look super cute for your fun day out doors! I have worn so many pairs of Keds in my lifetime. They are definitely one of my faves! Thank you for sharing your stylish link at Tuesdays with a Twist! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures

    • Jodie Filogomo

Aren’t they such a classic yet functional shoe, Marci??
Thanks and have a fantastic Sunday!!

  • I love Kimono tops, and your moms’ capris are so darn cute!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Barbie!! I agree with you that my mom’s capris are the best ever!! And we got such a deal on them–it makes it even better!! 🙂

  • ElenaY

New to this blog – found you thru @jseverydayfashion. My Mom (who is 87!) coordinates her outfits every day. It takes time and care to put together something stylish but it makes the world a better place. She feels more confident and we (the observers) feel inspired. Thank you for inspiring me – I’ll be sure to show this to my Mom (Clara) today!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Hi Elenay!! I’m so glad you stopped by and said “hi”!!
I do think that it’s worth the time to look nice. Not only for ourselves, but for others. I just read a saying lately that said, Dressing nice is showing respect for others! I thought that was very insightful!!
Please say Hello to your mother, Clara for me. I’d love to include her on the blog if you want to send me a photo—I already know the themes for the next couple of weeks if she wants to join in (just email me at jodie@jtouchofstyle.com).
I hope you stop by again!
      Have a great weekend! 🙂

  • Oh, these colors and prints on all three of you are simply brilliant! And when you are all standing together, such a beautiful vision!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Awwww.. you’re so sweet, Shelbee!! Thanks for that!!

  • You’re right!! Nancy’s top looks almost identical to mine (the style at least). I like how colorful and fun Nancy’s is, though! And your pants are fabulous. Perfect for a day of walking…and skirts can be dangerous if it’s windy. Haha.

Hope you’re all having a great week!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Isn’t that funny, Lindsey??
I love wearing my skirts, but there are just some days….

  • Three fabulous looks! Each of you selected such great statement items with beautiful colors. It certainly looks like a fun outing and y’all are styled perfectly for it!

    • Jodie Filogomo

We had such a great time Jennie!! And even though the moms get tired of having to stop and take photos—at least now we have them as remembrances!!

  • donnanance

The outfits for this outing are outstanding…see how I tied the word “out” into all that? ha! The three of you would have definitely made a fun fashion statement. Love it all…if I knew where Nancy lives, I would pilfer that gorgeous top….just kidding! The picture of all of you needs a cute frame. You ladies all have so much fun. Hope you fed Rob…poor baby, letting him starve…ha!

    • Jodie Filogomo

You certainly have an “out”pouring of words, Donna—ha ha!! That really made me smile this morning—so thanks for that!!
Nancy picked this shirt up on a whim at Ross last year!! I feel like it’s been one of her best buys for the summer—it’s so light and colorful and different!!
And even though Rob says he’s always hungry—he gets fed on a regular basis. Heck…that’s how I snagged him!! I’d make him cheesecakes all the time, and my mom would bake him pies!!

  • Lesley Watson

Great ideas as usual Jodie. Loved the looks you gals had for the garden stroll. I have Paris Market and a historic Fairmount Cemetery tour coming up in next week or so. Hats are always a start and totally agree with your cross body bags.(the better to shop with my dear) I do like to wear loose, flowing, & flirty shirts or dresses in summer to catch any breeze and stay cool. I admit I go with sleeveless more then I probably should, but am also big on the sun block.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Lesley!!
That historic Fairmount cemetery tour sounds so interesting!!
I don’t think it’s bad to go sleeveless—I just have such issues with burning, that I’m trying to be better about covering up! XOXO

  • I love all the bright fun colors for summer here! You look comfy and stylish!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Ruth!! It’s funny how we all picked bright colors on our own–I didn’t even plan that!!

  • I just love these bright and colorful outfits! These are so perfect for a Summer event!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Liz!! I was surprised at how bright we all dressed!! 🙂

  • Mahi Chaurasia

its all ways fun to read your blog… perfect summer

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Mahi!! That’s such a nice compliment to hear!! 🙂

  • These are definitely my favorites. Casual and colorful!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Laura!! We sure made a scene at the Gardens that day!! 🙂

  • ADA

Oh ladies all three of you are looking perfectly cozy, on trend, fresh, colorful and beautiful in these Summer ensembles. Way to style cropped pants for Summer. By far the best outfits of all three of you for 2017 (so far)! Loving those cute sun hats too Jodie. You all nailed these ones. Great outfits for a little ladies lunch or a shower or a weekend brunch. Nailed them!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Ada!! 🙂

  • Kirsten Wick

Your outfits are all perfect for summer events, I’m loving the colours. And Jodie, I think your capri pants are absolutely fabulous. Love, Kirsten

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Kirsten!! I was worried at first when I got these capris, that I wouldn’t be able to find much to go with them—but they have proven to be very versatile!!

  • Once again, your beautiful outfits and lovely smiles make me happy! Love all the color in your outfits – just perfect for summer! I apologize for not commenting on every post – but I promise I’m here reading!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much for your lovely compliment, Lana!! And I’m so glad you’re still around reading!! I appreciate any support you can give!!

  • Terri Webster Schrandt

Love these outfits–called them California Style! This is pretty much my uniform from April-October 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

I love that you could categorize these outfits like that Terri!!

  • Amy D. Christensen

I love you gals! You look so cool, confident and comfortable, and you look like you are enjoying working and playing together. What a great family! Love all of your looks. I love your criss cross neckline tee, and Nancy’s flowy top. I also love your Mom’s pants. Great looks ladies! – Amy

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Amy. And especially for including my mom’s in your positive comments. I made sure to forward this to them so they can appreciate the love too!!

  • I love your summer outfits! Great styling!

    – Cielo
    Mermaid in Heels

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Cielo!!

  • I could do with some of that excersise! I need to find me some time! Love Nancys top xx

    • Jodie Filogomo

I hear you Laurie!! I sit most of the day, so a day of walking was so refreshing!!

  • I can’t get enough of all of these bright colors! Such fun outfits!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I know and we didn’t even plan it this way!! I guess we were all excited for this field trip…ha ha!!

  • I just love how vibrant all of your outfits are!

    Pumps and Push-Ups

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Brooke!! And we didn’t even plan it that way–funny, huh??

  • Carol Cameleon

I absolutely love, love, love your capris. Shame they don’t do that print anymore. And thanks for reminding me of prescription sunglasses. I’ve got a voucher for money off too! Must spend! Nancy’s sandals are gorgeous in that colour and i love the colours in her top. While we’re talking about colour – I love that your outfits are always so colourful! Thanks so much for linking to #HighlightsofHappy again Jodie. I appreciate it.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Aren’t these capris so fun, Carol?? I loved them so much when I picked them out, and at first I thought I’d have a hard time finding shirts to go with them. But it’s been no problem!!
I just ordered another pair of prescription sunglasses because it’s so much better being able to see–LOL! And I almost never wear my contacts anymore!!
Nancy will love to read your fabulous compliment—I’ll forward it to her right now!!

  • Jacqueline Rendine

I am loving all the color that is going on in these outfits! Perfect for summer!
    Stylin In St. Louis

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Jacqueline!!
I do think color is so much easier to wear in the summer, since it’s so bright outside!!

  • Rebecca Saffer

All three outfits are attractive and comfortable looking What I love most (besides the fashion statements) is the delight and fun you have in each other’s company.

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Awww…thanks Rebecca!!
This day turned out very fun for all 3 of us! Although in truth, just like in any family…there are times we get on each other’s nerves!! Luckily they are few and far between! Because heck, we are a small family, so we might as well enjoy each other!!

  • Love all the bright bold colors that you ladies are wearing. Perfect looks for comfy summer style!]

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Kathrine!!
We did go bold for this, huh??

  • Laura

You all have such wonderful capri length pant options! I love the printed ones! When I know I am going to be walking a lot I tend to focus on shoes first and what will be comfortable then plan the outfit around that! Keeping sun protection in mind is a great point too! I apply sunscreen but often don’t go farther than that.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I really didn’t start caring about the sun much until I was older—so I totally get that Laura! But, now since I’ve been wearing hats more, I’m kinda hooked!! They really add so much fun to an outfit!!

  • What a fun photo shoot! I’m a huge fan of crops and capris! They look fresh and elegant. The summertime colours are wonderful! Love the detail of your top Jodie. And your sandals have a barefoot look. 🙂

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Carmen!!
I have to admit, I don’t have many capris—I used to try to wear more skirts in the warmer months. But there are the times when it’s windy–that it way better to have on capris, LOL!

  • You ladies look great. I agree about everything, but especially about the small cross body bag. That was something that took me a while to downsize to for something like this. I agree about the Berks and they just aren’t comfortable on my feet. But almost every other knitter friend I know has a pair to show off their hand knitted socks.

    • Jodie Filogomo

I can see where the birks are good for showcasing my knitted socks……but they still just don’t do it for me. At least yet! Never say never!!
I don’t have a problem downsizing for this size purse when it’s only for a day—and my husband is around. For these day trips, many times he’ll bring a back pack, so I can cheat and put things in that!! Shhhh….don’t tell!!

  • These looks are all so cute!! I love all the bright colors – you all match so perfectly!

    • Jodie Filogomo

I know, fuuny, right? And we totally didn’t even plan it!!
      Thanks Annessa!

  • Judy Gramith

What lovely, colorful , happy ladies!! All of your outfits are beautifully styled and seem just perfect for a stroll through a botanical garden. I did worry about the comfort of everyone’s shoes and the fact that Charlotte wasn’t wearing a hat… but your idea of stopping and sitting with a snack works too!
What a perfect way to spend a day with your lovely (smarty pants/matching outfits) mom and your other friend-mom ( your partner in impractical shoes for a day of walking). I love you ALL dearly!!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Aww..thanks Jude!!
I have to admit that any time we go for an excursion—we like to take it easy and enjoy!! There’s no such thing as go, go, go anymore. Besides–even though my mom is in fabulous shape—she will be 80 next year, so no need to be crazy and try to see everything!!
We did see one lady at the Gardens with her parasol—and mom had wished she had brought hers. But we pulled it out for our next post—you’ll see in on Wednesday!

  • Love the bright colors on everyone Jodie. I think those floral pants are darling on your mom and love Nancys top, which looks like a shawl at first glance. Love the shoe choices too for walking around all day. I may just have to style my puma sneakers soon 🙂 Have a great day!
    jess xx

    • Jodie Filogomo

You definitely need to style your puma sneakers!! I’m glad they are making a comeback, yet you of all people will show it with a fabulous combination!!
      Thanks for the love, Jess!

  • Mary Kalpos

You all look so happy and summery in your bright colors! Love all the capris!!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Mary!! These color almost seemed to go together, huh?? And we didn’t even plan it!! Maybe once you start hanging out together so much, you start dressing like each other. Like they say you start looking like your pets…ha ha!!

  • Nicole Mölders

Great looks. Nancy’s wedges call my name. So cute!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Aren’t they fabulous, Nicole??
      Thanks XOXO

  • Karen Anderson

I love every one of your outfits! Your shirt and that neckline is so fun and current. And I have loved those capris since the first time your showed them. I like the pink top with them, it’s something I would not have thought to do before, but sure would now. You can actually wear inserts with sandals? That’s pretty amazing and I’m sure ups the comfort factor. Like you, I just can’t think of Birkenstocks as stylish shoes. It reminds me so much of the late 60’s/early 70’s and hippies, just can’t go there ever again! In my case, I can say “never”! : ) I LOVE that top that Nancy is wearing. It’s so pretty when the breeze lifts it like in the shot from the back. And her shoes are great. I guess not for a day of walking, but you found the perfect solution for tired feet!! I also love your mom’s capris. Seriously, those are beautiful and I’m a sucker for florals. Your straw hats deserve mention also. I got one on my recent vacation and wore it all the time. I’m going for and after-work evening at a local winery this week and plan to wear it there since I don’t seem to have had many opportunities to bring it out since vacation. I like how the light shines through Nancy’s and adds some interest to the brim. Looks like you all had a fun day!

    • Jodie Filogomo

It really was a fun day, Karen!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that way about Birks….they just aren’t my cup of tea—at least right now! Besides, I grew up believing that looking good outweighed comfort—and I think by now, we can be smart about how much we walk!! Sitting and relaxing is just as important, right? Plus it gives me time to people watch which is my favorite activity!!
I have been loving hats so much lately too, Karen! In fact, I just bought another one at Target recently. It has a pink trim around it, and was only $5!!

  • I like this style challenge as it really is the case for so many summer events when we need to be cool, comfortable and cute. Also that is really frustrating your pants shrunk so much! These stores need to be pre-shrinking fabrics or taking more consideration of care instructions.
    Chic on the Cheap

    • Jodie Filogomo

The fact these shrunk so much was very frustrating to my friend—in the length part. And they wouldn’t take them back which was even more frustrating!

  • I’m typically in gym pants with a loose cotton tank for these things GRIN we’re headed to Universal Studios day after tomorrow so let’s see if that sartorial pattern repeats itself hahaha

p/s I never thought of being matchy matchy so as to not lose one another in the crowd, that’s fairly ingenious

    • Charlotte Miller

Jodie doesn’t remember but I use to make us matching outfits and wear them to Cedar Point (amusement park) therefore I couldn’t deny her as my daughter.

      • Jodie Filogomo

Especially when I was being a brat, and she would rather not be known as my mother…LOL!!

        • Charlotte Miller

Sorry about that–I just couldn’t resist! Love you too.

          • Jodie Filogomo

            It was perfect!! 🙂

          • It was indeed perfect 🙂 I love your relationship, and I hope Eve and I will be that way for the longest possible time.

          • Jodie Filogomo

With a fantastic mother like you, how could it not??

      • Hahahaha!! I love it!!! When Eve was younger, there was no way in hell (or heaven) you could get me to wear matching clothes. She was all chandelier pouf ballgowns (yes, even for things like this) and tiaras, and carrying a bolster under each arm like a bazooka GRIN

    • Jodie Filogomo

Oh, you’ll have so much fun at Universal Studios!! It’ll be the perfect place for some outfit photos, so you’ll have to take it up a notch! In your one pair of flats, right?? Of course, with your fabulous hair and smile, you look great in gym pants & a tank!!
The other day, we went to the sidewalk art festival, and my friend was so happy I was wearing a hat—she said it made it so much easier to find me in the crowds!!

      • It’s actually Universal Studios Singapore. We’re in Singapore right now (my Instastories is overflowing with snippets, we were at the Mandai Zoo yesterday) and then Borneo and then Italy 🙂

        • Jodie Filogomo

I did see that IG story—but I totally missed the part that you’re in Singapore!!
          How fabulous!!

  • Juhli Newkirk

You all look so fun and fabulous!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks so much Juhli!! We really had such a great time!

  • You chose a great venue for a shoot, the Botanic Gardens.

So sorry that Nancy’s shoes were not as comfy as they should have been for a day of walking. She looked so festive.

Shoes might not be the first item I chose, but comfort would be the item of the day for a walking tour. I would probably wear slip-on Keds or sandals I know to be all day comfortable.

I’m a fan of the half-tuck, too. My Capris and skirts need all the help they can get not to look stumpy.

I’m so glad to hear you say that Jean about the half-tuck!! Getting the proportions right with our shorter trousers can be hard otherwise! But then there are times, that I figure I look nice—proportions be darned!!
I remember when we were in Paris, we ended up walking a ton. And my shoes were comfortable, but my feet and legs were still tired from all of the walking. It’s good to have comfy shoes, but sometimes, I just realize I’m going to need a day of rest, right?

      • I expect getting truly ready to go on a tour would involve preparation well in advance like training for a marathon, if daily distance walking was not one’s usual. Part of the training would need to be wearing the shoes on protracted walks. I need to spend more time outdoors.

  • These are among my favorites. Love this category. 🙂 I’ve got some walking ahead of me today (traveling to Oklahoma City to tour the memorial there). I’ll likely put on tennis shoes for the actual tour, but keep my sandals handy for other things. Love the hats too!

What a fun trip, Lisa!! That’s such a great idea to take another pair of shoes with you—-I’ve heard that that’s actually the best for your feet anyways–not just for styling!!

  • Love love all your outfits! You look summer event ready and I love all the colors and your cute bags! You look like your are having so much fun too! Great tips as always! Peace!

Thanks Cheryl!! It really was a fun filled day—that’s what life is all about, right?

  • I commend you all on managing to stay stylish, covered, comfortable and protected. I do think creating an outfit for days like this is very challenging. I especially love that you are all in colour.

    • Jodie Filogomo

Thanks Suzanne! There are definitely many aspects to consider for these events. But isn’t that the best thing about getting older? Since we’ve done it before, it’s a little easier each time! (except for the all day walking—I’m so outta shape–haha)

  • LOVE that you all chose brights!!! I can’t get enough color this season and each of these is perfect!

It’s funny how we all wore such bright colors because we didn’t plan it at all, Laura!!

  • Great looks!

      Thanks Jaymie!

  • Really lovely post! Was nice to see you all out having fun!

    • Jodie Filogomo

We did have so much fun this day!! Thanks Gemma!

  • Mireille

Perfect looks! I usually start with shoes too and then which crossbody purse to wear, then the rest of the outfit. This year I found a hat in the dollar section at target for $5 that I love!

    • Jodie Filogomo

Hey—I just got a hat at Target for $5 too!! It’s a straw hat with pink trim!! I figured if it gets all smelly and gross, it’s fine since it was only $5!!
      Thanks! XOOX

  • Bev @ Walking Well With God

Love that you all went with capri’s 🙂 I had never know about the “half tuck” – that’s new to me. You all look great for a summer outing!! Love the small bags you used to pull top and bottom together.
    Bev xx

    • Jodie Filogomo

I just wrote an article for Sixty + Me about capris too Bev (I don’t think it’s published yet, but be on the lookout). I almost feel like these pieces don’t get the love they deserve!!
      Thanks, XOXO

  • Cathy Lawdanski

The printed capris are my favorites! Great looks, ladies!

    • Jodie Filogomo

      Thanks Cathy!!
