Denim Vest for the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s: With a Dress
Quote of the day: “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream…” C.S. Lewis
There are many good reasons to wear a vest over your dress, for example if the dress: has spaghetti straps and you don’t want your bra to show, or it doesn’t have much shaping, or the dress could seem too dressy, or the print of the dress seems overwhelming, or even if it’s a little tight. Of course you could just wear the vest over a dress because it’s fun and interesting too! For our examples, you can see we all chose short sleeved dresses, but of varying lengths. My dress is above the knee, Nancy’s dress is at the knee and mom’s dress is below the knee. Our first project with our denim vests was a little unusual by styling it over a jacket (here).
50’s Outfit: Thanks to one of my knitting friends, Jean Ann, who also loves to bead. She made this wonderful bracelet!
I recently bought this dress at Old Navy, but, of course, they are sold out of it already! The dress is actually quite perfect because it’s two layers, so it’s not see through, yet it’s lightweight! I especially like a flared dress because of the fact that it has good coverage when you sit down!
Dress: Old Navy (here in cream only with limited sizes available or similar)~~Vest: Maurices (similar here)~~Sandals:Old Navy (similar here in nude/black)~~Scarf: (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)~~Bracelet: (similar here)
60’s Outfit: With all of the flowers on Nancy’s dress, we decided to forgo a necklace, but we had to add a little sparkle by including this pin on the vest! The blue earrings are meant to compliment the pin!
These are my favorite shoes that Nancy got at Target a couple years ago. With a little heel, but it’s a wedge, they are walk able yet very stylish!!
Dress: Liz Claiborne (similar here)~~Vest: Chicos (similar here)~~Shoes: Prabal Gurung for Target (similar here)~~Brooch: (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)~~Bracelet: (similar here)
70’s Outfit: This dress is made out of t-shirt material and is very comfy. Since mom made it herself, notice there are pockets, which everyone loves!
It’s a fact that “they” say older women shouldn’t wear a pastel color near the face, so the denim vest is a great solution to this, don’t you think?
Dress: Mom made it (similar here–great deal!)~~Vest: Dear John(similar here)~~Shoes: 9 West (similar here in every color under the sun)~~Necklace: (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)~~Bracelet: (similar here)
It warms my heart to know others are reading this!

Check out these dresses—wouldn’t they look great under your vest? My fave is the Asos one—so different (Hey mom—maybe you could make me one like this with that gold fringe material?)!!
