An Easy Recipe for a Simple Winter Outfit

I appreciate each and every share. Thank you!

Lesley is showing an easy recipe for a simple winter outfit. While it can be fun to add in a ton of accessories some days, there are other days where it’s good to keep it simple.

Quote of the day: “Too often, we fall into an all-or-nothing cycle with our habits. The problem is not slipping up; the problem is thinking that if you can’t do something perfectly, then you shouldn’t do it at all.” James Clear

I thought this quote was perfect for this simple winter outfit because while it is simple in the fact that it has very few accessories or extras, it’s bold in its colors.

How does this tie into the quote? Because many women think they are no good at accessorizing or wearing bolder colors. So if you prefer more minimal accessories then, choosing a bright color can make an outfit more interesting.
It doesn’t mean you HAVE to stick to neutrals only. (Not that neutrals are bad, but I always think it’s fun to have a variety in our closets).

Making a Bold Color as Part of your Simple Winter Outfit

Lesley calls this her go-to outfit as you saw in her version with a black sweater and black boots. The difference between the two outfits is color and accessories.

With the black sweater and boots, she added a couple of long pearl necklaces to add pizzazz to the look.
Yet for this day, she kept it simple by leaving off the accessories and choosing a bright color instead.

Color has a huge psychological component on not only our moods but also on the people who see us. And as I always like to say, there is a shade of every color for everyone. If this bright red seems too intense, there are darker or lighter ones that you might like better.

Insider tip: Do you feel silly in bright colors thinking they are clownish? Then try incorporating them in small doses for instance as a scarf or with your purse.

Minimal Accessories

Even though Lesley is a pro at adding some kind of accessories to a solid-colored sweater like this, she opted for a more simple winter outfit.
The furry earrings were her sassy choice and I think they stand out wonderfully against her hair color.

These earrings I found on Amazon (here) and I think they are the best earrings for any time during the winter (plus they come in an assortment of colors). They are so popular that they came up with some dangle ones too.

But if you prefer a different kind of earring, I love how you can find statement ones that are still a stud design.

Skinny Jeans Even in 2022?

I believe that skinny jeans and leggings will always have a place in our wardrobes. Sure, maybe we can start branching out with different silhouettes from time to time, but there are many advantages to the skinny silhouette too.
1-They tuck into tall boots easily
2-Perfect pairing for longer tunics or tops
3-Definitely warmer because they are tighter
4-And let’s not forget how they can help with flexibility trying to get in and out of them, haha!!

If you’re someone who has embraced the leggings and skinny jeans for a while now, then I’m betting you have a bunch of these longer tunics to style with them. Once you start transitioning to wider leg pants, you might need to consider some different length tops.

Insider tip: Another option with longer tops would be to make them the length you want with my 3 tricks on this video. OR have the longer shirt shortened by your seamstress.

Tall red boots

Yes, You Need Red Boots

Footwear doesn’t have to be ho-hum as we get older. In fact, I bet if you had a pair of red shoes or boots as a child, you remember them fondly.
There’s just no reason not to incorporate fun colors into our shoes as well as our clothing.

In fact, all three of us showcased different varieties of red boots last winter here, here, and here and all three posts were popular. It goes to show that red boots may be the way you should create fun in your looks.

Tips for finding colorful boots that will be versatile FOR YOU:
1-Think about your favorite color for your tops. Maybe you need that same color for a pair of shoes or boots?
2-What color pants do you have the most of? NOW, why not have a color of shoe that contrasts with them instead of matches?
3- Another great option is a print pair that has many colors in the footwear. Then they might seem more versatile.

What Covers the Simple Winter Outfit?

Many times if we are heading to an outside event in the winter, you wonder how much time you should spend on the outfit anyway since it will be covered up by a coat.
I love how Lesley grabbed this vintage velvet cape to wear once the temperatures cooled down.

Capes (or ponchos like I just wore) are fabulous when your sweaters are bulkier.
