Summer Sundress: Then & Now
It’s time for another Fab Collab! Sherry from Petite Over 40 is back and this time we’re featuring that favorite summer staple, the sundress. If you joined our first Fab Collab where we shared styles and stories behind our pearls, you know that each of us represent a different decade in life. Sherry is in her 40s, I’m in my 50s, Nancy is in her 60s, and Mom is in her 70s.All this week you’ll see how we’re styling sundresses these days and read our own personal connections to a particular dress from our past. Sherry got the week started styling a Lilly Pulitzer sundress and sharing a story about dress that made her feel as elegant as Meryl Streep in the movie Out of Africa. Read her story here.I styled my modern day sundress with a neck scarf & accessories–yellow, of course!! You can read about my handmade floral sundress that reminds me of dental school here.We hope you’ll join us all week for the Fab Collab Fun!
Sundress Then:
And since this was ages before sunscreen was popular, a sundresses was a good way to show off your tan! My hair was bleached out a bit by the sun and had a blondish tint that eventually turned brunette. A combination perfect for a sundress!
When I got older and struggled with the issue of weight, I went to Weight Watchers. Wanting to show off my almost 30 pound loss and (as it turns out, the lowest weight of my adult life,) I bought this blue & white sundress to proudly show off my sexy new body.
Age takes its toll on ones body and my left shoulder has a very noticeable cyst on it, so now I shy away from showing off that shoulder but still love the idea of a beautiful summer sundress!
If you missed it earlier in the week, don’t forget to check out Sherry’s (the 40’s model) sundress and the story behind it on her blog: Petite Over 40! Then there was Jodie’s (the 50’s model) sundress here. Charlotte’s post is coming later this week!
Sundress Now:
Nancy’s (60’s) Outfit: This was a beautiful day at the Denver Botanic Gardens! And since Nancy had her accessories as yellow, we decided to pose by the yellow flowers (if I were paying better attention, I would have learned what these flowers were called)!
The necklace is a Brighton necklace turned around backwards. I was hoping it would show up a little better this way on the print of the sundress?
If the print of this dress looks at all familiar, it is basically the same print as the ankle pants Nancy wore in that series (see it here)! She bought them both at J.Jill’s at the same time, so it makes sense! The print certainly has great colors in it and looks good with about everything else she owns!
Dress: J.Jill (here only in a L, similar here in more sizes)~~Cardigan: Norton (similar here super great deal if you’re looking for a short sleeved cardigan in many different colors)~~Shoes:Kelly & Katie (similar here)~~Necklace: (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)~~Purse: Charming Charlies (similar here)~~Sunglasses: (similar here)
Here’s some more wonderful summer dresses—these are below the knee (of course it really depends on how tall you are, right? I could buy a mini, and it’d be below my knees)
