Fall Cardigans with VIPme.com
With the first day of fall coming up this week, I figured it was as good a time as any to start thinking about layering with sweaters! VIPme.com generously gave us these three cardigans for us to review and you can benefit from this collaboration too. Use the code Jodie235 to receive $5 off any $50 order until October 18, 2016!
I explained my love of VIPme.com in my past review of their dresses which I considered works of art (the post can be viewed here). In this post the cardigans I chose for the three of us are almost opposite of the dresses: They are more subdued, solid colored, and understated. However, there are some details in each item that makes them more unique and interesting! I realize that most of us think of the fall season where darker colors emerge. Yet I decided to go with somewhat light colors with these sweaters!
Even though as I’ve gotten older, I try to enjoy the season & weather that is happening in the moment (not what it says on the calendar); I am also a planner by nature. So thinking about how to cover up when the mornings and evenings start to be chilly, is reasonable! And if you know me, you realize I love a great deal. Thus there are many times, I’m shopping at the end of the season for end of season sales. However, the other side of the coin is that when you purchase something at the start of the season, you have the ability to wear it oodles while you still love it!
Outfits: So here are the cardigans! I styled each one for two separate occasions, since that’s what normal people do!!
Jodie’s (50’s) Dressy Outfit: I choose this cardigan because of the lovely textures included on the piece. It has stripes on the body portion, small openings at the bottom portion and fringe in the front! It’s a very lightweight cardigan, and I loved that the sleeves weren’t too long!
For the dressy outfit, I threw it on over my leopard shift dress. I figured the cardigan gave the outfit some visual interest so to take your attention away from the fact that the dress is shapeless!
Cardigan: VIPme.com (here also available in grey)~~Dress: Ann Taylor (similar here in a long sleeve version)~~Shoes: Chinese Laundry (similar here and here as a flat version)~~Hat: (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)
Jodie’s (50’s) Casual Outfit: The fringe gives it a boho air in my opinion, so I put it on with my flares! This outfit was perfect for the day, because I was able to take off the sweater in the car, but throw it back on when we went into the stores! I do love how it’s slightly different in the front versus the back!
Even though this sweater says one size it runs kind of small. I am showing it pulled together as much as it will in the above picture, so it’s not meant to close or overlap in front. For reference I am a size small on top, and it won’t touch even on me!
Nancy’s (60’s) Dressy Outfit: As we know, the advantage of neutrals, is they will pair with everything. This summer dress of Nancy’s gets autumnized with her cardigan!
I picked this sweater for the interesting ruffles on the sides! And there’s a button under the arm which is for show only!
Nancy’s (60’s) Casual Outfit: This coffee colored cardigan will go with absolutely everything in your closet. I used it to tame down the brighter colors for both of Nancy’s outfits.
This sweater fits Nancy perfectly. She’s only 5’0″ and it doesn’t overwhelm her in length or bulk! It has the detail where the hem is shorter on the sides and longer in the front and back! I think it could certainly be tacked together in the front with a pin if you want!
Cardigan: VIPme.com (here available also in grey, red, apricot & black)~~Jeans: Fabrizio-Gianni (similar here)~~Top: (similar here)~~Shoes: Franco Sarto (similar here in a suede)~~Bracelet: I knitted it (similar here with gold edging!)~~Earrings: (similar here)
Charlotte’s (70’s) Dressy Outfit: This cardigan is called a cape on the website, yet it’s not as unstructured as a normal cape! It’s a light pink in color which you may not think about wearing as much in the fall season. But I think it’s a wonderful compliment to the darker colors we usually pull out in autumn. Although I styled her in all white below–ha ha!
Doesn’t mom’s hair look nice tucked behind her ears?
Charlotte’s (70’s) Casual Outfit: This cardigan is probably the heaviest of the three we received. It definitely has more weight to it, yet the nice thing is the sleeves aren’t long. I wished I’d styled a long sleeve tee under it, because that’s how mom will most likely wear it!
I think it’ll also look very nice pinned in the front. There is no closure made into the sweater, but I bet you could hold it together with a brooch!
We put on a scarf for two reasons. One because all white isn’t great with mom’s complexion. And secondly because she thinks it’s strange to be wearing a sweater yet have her neck exposed!
