Fall Style: Finding Ways to Incorporate Your Summer Accessories
I challenged us to wear something that is more fall style with the summer accessories from our beach vacation post. You can see how Lesley kept the colors the same from her sunset beach picnic, and yet still looks ready for the cooler weather now.
This idea is from Kaitlyn, a friend I made on Instagram. Kaitlyn and her sister have a shop, Lil Shop of Ours, and she asked about anklets. While we didn’t have that summer accessory, I thought it would be fun to incorporate summer accessories into a fall look. It’s no different than how we wore a summer clothing item and transformed it for autumn.
Quote of the day: “Any time we use the word “if”, we put doubt on whatever comes next.” Michael Strahan
After reading this quote, there are no “ifs” about creating a fall style with our summer accessories. Why limit ourselves to wearing certain accessories for only one or two seasons?
Even though we certainly think about yellow for summer, Lesley is here to show how you can wear it for the cooler weather.
And make sure to see how Charlotte incorporated her beach purse and I carried my straw tote.

Fall Style with Yellow
If we think about it, there’s quite a bit of yellow even in the fall season with the changing of leaves. While we usually think more of a mustard yellow for fall, even the bright yellow shouldn’t be ignored.
For both looks, Lesley chose navy as her base color and used yellow as the secondary color. She could wear this outfit for a multitude of events and confessed it was something she even wore when she was working in Denver.
During the autumn season when the weather can vary from morning to evening, it’s nice to have a layer that is easy to put on and take off like this cardigan.
A navy dress is one of those basic pieces that could be the best replacement for the LBD if black isn’t the best color for your complexion. Just think of how you could wear it for any season! Think about throwing a sweater over it (either pullover or cardigan for winter) as well as layering under it with a turtleneck or long sleeve top for the cooler weather.
Layered Necklace
We’ve talked about layering necklaces recently. Yet if it seems like too much work, it’s always easier to find a necklace that is already layered for you. Then you know that it’s going to look wonderful.
A gold necklace works so nicely with the yellow because it’s warm and really pops against the darker navy dress.
Even Yellow for Fall Style
These yellow earrings should make an appearance every season. I love how they brighten up Lesley’s face and really stand out against her hair.
Even this tan purse would work all year long as a fabulous neutral.
Vertical Stripes
For those of you who tend to shy away from horizontal stripes, then this kind of cardigan would be perfect. Although I don’t always believe the thought that horizontal stripes make us look bigger. In fact, I posted on Facebook a side-by-side comparison.
And my friend, Julie, once said, “I’m allowed to take up some space and I have more important things to focus on than the need to look smaller” which I think we should all remember.
Yellow Sandals
Now you may not be wearing many sandals when the weather cools down, but we all know that fall style doesn’t need to start as soon as the calendar says so. Many times the warmer weather continues well into September, so why not take advantage of it?
Sure, sometimes we are antsy to wear our boots again, but we will have plenty of time to do that in the next 6 months.
Then again, there are some fabulous yellow shoes that would work for fall and winter too!! In fact, yellow boots are on my wish list. Why? They would pop against all of the other dark colors we tend to wear in the winter.
Fall Style with Summer Accessories
So tell me if you incorporate your summer accessories/shoes into your fall looks? Or do they get put away until the next summer season?
My Goal
Thank you for visiting my space on the internet. I like to showcase how it’s never too late to look great for women of any age, size, or working with any budget.
I feel I’m here to help move beyond the fashion rules of yesterday and evolve. Style and clothes are made to give you joy. Not cause us stress because we are worried about what others think.
My hope is that you get ideas and inspiration from Charlotte, Lesley, and myself. It’s not about copying what we wear, but about using what you already have and updating items along the way.
Most of all it’s getting us to think differently and dare I say, have fun?
