Finding Colors that go with Lime Green Clothing
Finding colors that go with lime green clothing may seem daunting. It’s not a color we hear about all the time, and yet with the right reasoning, it can be as easy as any other color.
Quote of the day: “If we learn to open our hearts, anyone, including the people who drive us crazy, can be our teachers.” Pema Chodron
The idea for this theme of colors that go with lime green clothing came about when Lesley styled me from my own closet and fell in love with my lime green pants. The funny part is how Lesley doesn’t like green and only has added green to her closet ever since we’ve been shopping together. If that isn’t called influence, I don’t know what is, LOL!
So then when a reader was commenting she has a lime green jacket that she doesn’t know what to wear it with, I figured we could give some options that could help. In fact, I have 4 tried and true methods below.
Charlotte showed us how a darker neutral could work, and Lesley is showing a light neutral as her base layer. And I went with an inspiration from Instagram.
Don’t miss the fun escapade that we had after taking these photos with our scavenger hunt along with some memories of Lesley’s stories below.

Accessories that aren’t Green
In comparison to Charlotte who chose mostly green accessories, Lesley is showing how other colors can bring out the summer vibes too. She’s pulled out the other colors from the print cardigan to give some variety with yellow earrings and a black necklace.
The contrast of the black necklace is the perfect way to showcase it against the white top. (Although Lesley just told me the necklace is navy. Which goes to show that even though YOU KNOW the color of something, other people may perceive it differently. Moral of the story? Don’t get too caught up in the exact colors of things)
Insider tip: Remember, if you match your necklace to your top, it will blend and not be seen. Why take the time to put it on if it won’t be admired?

Color Combination Secrets
So let’s talk about how you find colors that go with lime green clothing. Notice I said “go” and not match. Because if you remember the example I shared on FB and my lime green pants outfit, our eyes can see colors differently depending on what is around it.
So let’s examine the color you are starting with. For our example, I will use this “green” skort of Lesley’s.
1-Start with what “color” it really is. Since this is green, you should be able to combine other greens with it. Maybe you won’t like all of them, but some will work. Think about a paint swatch and how the colors on the swatch all go together.
2-Now think about is it a warm color or cool color. This can be harder to figure out, but if it’s warm, try mixing with other warm colors. If it’s cool, then pair with other cool colors.
3-Find prints that have this color already in it and incorporate those other colors. Charlotte showcased this with her outfit with her kimono.
4-Now the EASIEST thing to do, is hold up your clothing item with EVERYTHING else in your closet. You might be surprised at the possibilities that arise.
Insider tip: I would like to point out that the green in Lesley’s sweater is NOT lime green. It’s what I would call a light olive green, yet with the yellow and white in the cardigan it creates a beautiful outfit.
Even the lime green stripe in her purse, is not the EXACT same color of her skirt. Yet it goes beautifully.

Why Yellow Sandals?
Just like Lesley wore her yellow earrings, she bookended that with yellow sandals. It’s my hypothesis that yellow sandals are something we all can wear for the summer.
Again, it’s the idea they don’t have to match, but can “go” or contrast in a look.
Even if you are one of the people that doesn’t like yellow near your face, yellow footwear can bring the summer vibe in another way.

Skort the Issue
Lesley now has a plethora of skorts in her wardrobe, and it’s opened my eyes to the functionality of them. I remember having them years ago, but haven’t seen them in stores now. If you are someone who doesn’t wear shorts, this could be a great option to get more coverage with a skirt, yet stay modest.
Insider tip: If you are looking for skorts, one reader (thanks Karen) commented that she finds them in the athletic or fitness stores like Athleta and Land’s End. Lesley finds hers at Stein Mart and Macy’s.

Our Scavenger Hunt & Lesley’s Memories
First let me share Lesley’s funny story about scavenger hunts. When she was in junior high, slumber parties were a regular girly thing for a Friday summer night. And one of the activities was often a scavenger hunt. They had a list of 10 things they needed to get and the team of two that gathered the most items, won!
Back then it was safe and acceptable to go door to door in your neighborhood and ask for these items like a match book, bobby pin, pencil and ALWAYS a roll of toilet paper.
Back at party central, bags were sorted out and most things tossed except the toilet paper. What on earth would a bunch of girls do with 12 rolls of TP? Duh!! Go out into the neighborhood and TP the mean neighbor’s house or maybe the cute boy’s one.
And you thought Lesley was a goody two shoes…LOL!! She also shared that one of her most fun jobs was at a consignment store in Glenwood Springs, CO called “First Class Trash.” They would take consignments from Aspen and Vail so the pickings were wonderful.

That’s how Lesley came up with the idea for our scavenger hunt at a couple of Goodwill’s for this day. You can see the list of items I created in Charlotte’s post.
Of course, when the time was up at each store, we also found other treasures. Lesley was contemplating buying this red prom dress for a Halloween costume.
