Finding High Fashion Inspiration from a Real Life Closet
You may think it’s impossible to find high fashion inspiration when looking into your own closet. In fact, how many of you look at the photos of outfits in the magazines and think “who would wear that?” So the three of us decided to each take a different photo from my March InStyle Magazine and create our “own” look with it.
Now remember inspiration doesn’t automatically mean copying something. I’ll try to help you through the process so that you can come up with more variety in your wardrobe.

Let’s start with the high fashion inspiration photo that Charlotte chose below. In one respect, it’s a linen suit which isn’t too crazy. Granted you might not wear a crop top with it or those fuzzy slippers, but I’ll talk about ways to stretch your mind with this photo.
Along with how my mom worked her magic with it.

Charlotte’s High Fashion Inspiration
Pants: Mom made them~~Cardigan: Mom made it~~ Camisole: Mom made it~~ Shoes: Life Stride~~ Scarf: ~~ Purse: Nicole Miller-thrifted
When my mom saw this photo from InStyle magazine, she was drawn to the brown tones and monochromatic look. While her recreation isn’t truly monochromatic, my mom’s camisole and cardigan are the same material. Basically a twin set with other shades of brown and leopard thrown in.
Even though you might not have a “suit” anymore, this photo could make you pull out different browns from your closet. And if you don’t have any browns, then you can use any other color to make it look almost like a suit!!
From there you make it your own. You don’t have to copy all or any of the details. Just seeing the high fashion inspiration photo and thinking how you can make an outfit from your closet is a success.
Charlotte added in all kinds of fun accessories to make it “her.” Just because the InStyle photo is very minimal may not reflect your personality or mood of the day.

Mom Made It
If you notice in the details of the items, my mom not only made the pants but also the cardigan and camisole. These pants were made for traveling since they are a light neutral which go with everything.
Then she was also given the darker rust material from a neighbor in Denver, so she created the top set. The rolled edges of the cardigan is because there is no hem. Instead the serger machine just finishes them off for a modern detail.

Even the owl necklace was something Charlotte put together herself. The owl is a button and my mom just threaded through a rope to make it a necklace.

Leopard
While the inspiration photo doesn’t have any leopard in it, you could call the addition of leopard “Charlotte’s sass”!! Because the high fashion inspiration photo has sass in a different way by showing off her midriff!
There are many ways to add your personality to any outfit, and animal prints are still running strong in the fashion world.

Other Possibilities
So let’s explore other ideas of how to get inspiration from this photo from InStyle magazine or any photo.
1– The material looks like linen, so you could remember other linen pieces you have.
2– The idea of wearing lighter color shoes with darker pants.
3-Statement earrings instead of a necklace
4-How about a sports bra as a top under another top. For instance, when you would normally wear a cami that is full length, why not a half top like this so it’s cooler?
Insider tip: I do work with Halftees that are basically a half camisole made for modesty but not bulk. JTOUCH20 gives you 20% off. I’ve written two posts to showcase some of their designs here and here.
