Wearing our Floral Prints for Fall with the Ageless Style Group & Linkup
Wearing our floral prints for fall. Welcome to the time of the month where a group of Ageless women collaborate and style the same thing yet differently. This month, Daenel suggested the idea of flower power which made me think about getting my inspiration from springtime. That’s why we styled pastels for winter in our last post.
Quote of the day: “The tragedy of life is not that is ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it.” W.M. Lewis
Which is how I thought this quote was perfect. I feel like I’m always pushing us to style items we weren’t necessarily brought up to appreciate. Even though style is meant to be unique and fit our life, most of us try to follow the “rules”.
Therefore, I love the idea of wearing our floral prints for fall and all year long. Make sure to check out what the other women in our group put together.
As for the three of us, I wanted us to show you different kinds of flowers to wear this fall and winter. That’s why I had Nancy wear pants with flowers on them, my mom wore a tunic with crocheted flowers all over it, and I kept my flowers on my boots, hat and purse.

Why I Wore This Outfit
After being inspired by Shelbee I decided that I too, could wear my shorts in the winter. I’m sure many of you are shaking your heads thinking that I’ve gone nuts. But after I bought these boots at the end of last winter for a screaming deal, I’m so excited to wear them. And you can’t just cover them up. So what better way to showcase them than with shorts?
And the yellow sweater is one I just finally finished knitting. I’d probably started it over 3 years ago, so trust me that I’m going to be wearing it a lot. If you follow me on Instagram, you already saw me in it since I love it so much. I bought the gold colored yarn since I love yellow, and I just read that it’s one of the colors of the season. Yay!
How You Could Change This Outfit
So I don’t expect you all to be wanting to wear your shorts all winter. Even if you did have on your plush lined tights like I’m wearing. So this outfit could inspire you to pull out your black jeans, gold sweater, and then just accessorize with flowers.
There are many flower necklaces that would pop so nicely against a plain sweater whether they are almost real or memorex…ha ha. Or how about a flower pin? There are so many pretty ones that would add in the flower idea.
Interesting Tidbit
This hat was gifted to me from Tenth Street Hats. I’ve showcased a couple of their hats in the past and I love that they have hats for every size head along with the fact that they send you sizing tape with your hat.
Maybe you’ve heard me say that I’ve been trying to stay away from black more and more. Yet there are times I need it for my accessories. So these earrings are better for my complexion since they are gold bases. This jewelry company was recently started by a blogger and her daughter. I love to support them since they are a small company along with embracing the mother/daughter angle.

Why Nancy Wore This Outfit
Even though I suggested that Nancy wear these pants, she came up with the rest of the outfit. And the inspiration was a picture in a Chico’s catalog which showed a pair of black & white flowered pants with this combination.
Most denim jackets seems to get put away in the colder months, yet many times it’d be perfect. Since this one is a little boxy, it’s even great over another coat.
How You Could Change This Outfit
Nancy always jokes that she thinks of these pants as cow pants. She knows they are really flowers, but the first impression is that cow print you see quite a bit.
There are other floral pants that might not be as eye catching if you prefer. There are ones that are mostly black, and then others that are more colorful. Either way, they work perfectly with your denim jacket.
Interesting Tidbit
The turquoise pendant was a generous gift from one of our readers, Jude who we met in Seattle last year. Nancy has ended up wearing it so many times because it’s a great shape and turquoise goes with almost everything.

Why Charlotte Wore This Outfit
I asked my mom to incorporate flowers into the top portion of her outfit. This tunic is such a great example of how layering a mesh like top over a contrasting color enables you to see it better. What I mean is, if she had worn this sweater over a black top, you wouldn’t notice the flowers at all.
It’s really a smart way to make some of our summer or lighter weight items work for other seasons. For example, this piece could easily be worn with only a tank top for the summer, or even as a swim suit cover up.
How You Could Change This Outfit
Another option for your top half if you want to incorporate floral prints for fall is the dark floral pattern. It is quite popular in all kinds of pieces right now. From tunics, to tops, to cardigans and even jackets, it’s a thing that many women just love.
Interesting Tidbit
My mom wore her silver shoes that are more of an open weave since they mimic a floral pattern. Silver shoes are really more versatile than you think. Needless to say when the weather gets colder, you wouldn’t want a pair that’s so open. Which is why you could get a pair of silver boots or loafers instead.
Tips & Tricks
I realize we think more about wearing our floral prints for fall when they are evident in Mother Nature. Yet why not wear them now when our landscapes need more flowers to brighten up the day? In fact, it’s exactly the opposite of the quote from the Devil Wears Prada. (the quote is “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking” in a sarcastic tone)
If this idea is out of your comfort zone, then the best way to dip your toe into the concept is to keep the colors dark. Even though we experimented with pastels recently, most people gravitate towards more subdued and darker colors when the days get shorter.
Yet, like I say and say again….have fun with your clothes. If you are a huge fan of flowers, then wear them every season and every day if you want.
