Focus Options on Choosing Necklaces for Necklines with a Crew Neck Top
There are so many options for choosing necklaces for necklines. Yet many of the articles I read, tend to show just one way to accessorize a certain neckline. Therefore with the suggestion from a reader, I thought it would be fun to show multiple options.
Quote of the day: “The thing you fear most has no power. Your fear of it is what has the power. Facing the truth really will set you free.” Oprah Winfrey
I chose this quote only because there is so much fear of getting dressed and if it is the “right” or “wrong” way. I know this because that’s how I felt too. Yet this blogging journey has certainly taught me many things, one of which is to have more fun with our clothing style.
Which brings up the idea of choosing necklaces for necklines. My mom opted to showcase a crew neck top. While many articles don’t like crew neck tops, it’s my mom’s favorite because it covers her more.
Did you know the crew neck tends to give the illusion of square shoulders, a shorter neck, a fuller face and more ample bust? So your favorite neckline can be dependent on what traits you are trying to promote.

In these examples, my mom is showcasing more muted examples since her necklace choices are basically the same color of her top. In the very last photo of the three of us, you can see a more contrasting example.
Charlotte’s choices with her shorter necklaces are a collar necklace (above) vs a multi strand necklace (below).
Insider tip: You can often times make your own multi strand necklace (long or short) by using ones you already have. They don’t need to all match. But I do suggest wrapping them around each other so they look more cohesive for the shorter ones.
A longer necklace with the crew neck top is a great way to bring the focus down from the face. Many stylists will say it elongates your look.
For this option of choosing necklaces for necklines, my mom showed off a single pendant necklace (above) vs a multi strand necklace (below).
Fun with Layering
Layering our necklaces or accessories is a creative way to use more than just one and give a solid colored blouse more bling. Charlotte is showing the layering technique with different lengths of necklaces and then 2 different ways with a scarf and a necklace.
When you are working on layering different length necklaces, there is no right and wrong. It’s perfectly fine to have them overlap each other or not.
Adding texture in with a fuzzy scarf like the one below always adds whimsy. And if the scarf tends to blow around, you could even wrap the necklace around it to keep it flatter.
In the photo below, my mom had the necklace be shorter and the scarf be the longer element. She is using a hair barrette as a scarf clip to hold the ends of the scarf together.
Insider tip: Many hair accessories could be used as scarf clips. There are many other scarf charms showcased in this post and you might already have some in your collection.

My mom and I had been generously gifted the necklaces below from a “friend” on Instagram. Not only did she offer them to us free of charge, but she sent them all the way from the UK.
It’s truly one of the reasons I am glad I have embraced social media. There are quirks to many of the social media channels, yet I have met many wonderful women too!
What I love about this yellow necklace my mom is wearing below, is how you can see the difference between matching and not matching your necklace to your top. It’s the difference between blending in or standing out.
