Glitter for the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s: the casual version

Quote of the day: “It’s okay to visit Memory Lane, just don’t live there.” Jeffrey Lorimer

Many of us have a piece of glitter clothing, yet we tend to think of wearing it only for the holidays and New Year’s Eve.  I will show in this blog some ideas on how you can comfortably wear sparkly items at non-holiday events.  Please realize, I’m defining glitter as sparkly pieces, not sequins, at least for these next three blogs!

The nice thing about glitter is it’s not quite as obvious as sequins and even though we tend to think of it as dressy, it can actually be casual. This is because from a distance, glitter can be subtle. Case in point, in most of these pictures, you don’t even recognize these items have glitter in them unless there is an up-close shot.  One of the disadvantages about glitter is it can reflect any lumps and bumps, so make sure the fit is spot on!

Don’t forget to see these same pieces styled differently in the dressy post and other blog post.

50’s Glitter Styling (dark grey shirt)..I bought this shirt knowing I’d be wearing it as a layering piece and not by itself.  This is a very casual, go to the store outfit.

Shirt: Frenchi from Nordstroms (similar here)~~ Necklace: Ann Taylor (similar here)~~Cardigan: J. Jill (similar here)~~Jeans: Banana Republic (here but I got mine on sale)~~Shoes: Ann Taylor (similar here)

60’s Glitter Styling (skirt)..Nancy usually only wears this skirt for dressy occasions so I wanted to show her how it’d be great for one of her church meetings with a t-shirt and cardigan.   At the top of the cardigan there are just 3 closures and thus flares away from the body when buttoned–very flattering for any tummy bulges.

Skirt: J. Jill (similar here)~~ T-shirt: Gerard Darel (similar here)~~Cardigan: NPR (http://nprsamples.com/) (similar here)~~Earrings: (similar here)~~Boots: Kelly & Katie at DSW::they stretch so good for large calves (here)

70’s Glitter Styling (sweater)..Mom bought this sweater and has NEVER worn it….ever happened to you?  This is an example of another casual look in which to run errands.  I love how the vertical stripes pull your eyes downward.

Sweater: Thrift store (similar here but not glitter)~~Blouse: mom made it (similar here)~~Jeans: Bill Blass (here)~~Shoes: LifeStride (similar here)~~Necklace: Hudson’s (similar here)
