Going on Spring Break with Anthony’s
Quote of the day: “To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.” Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt is one of my favorite sources for quotes. I picked this one purposely because of the company I’m showcasing today.
When I was first contacted by Anthony’s last fall, my first thought was the clothing really wasn’t my style and especially in November because they were warm weather clothes. But the more I looked around their site, the more I could see that my mom and Nancy would love many of these pieces.
In fact, many of the brands they carry, are the ones that are already in mom’s and Nancy’s closet. Although they also have quite a selection of brands that are exclusive to Anthony’s. The fact that they carry petites was the deciding factor that I would work with this company and see what you think.
Truly, I would love to know you opinion of this site and your interest in future endeavors. As much as I write this blog for myself and my moms, it also warms my heart to help find great sources of clothing for my readers along with helping smaller companies in the process.
So since this site concentrates on the Florida lifestyle, let’s pretend we are going on spring break with Anthony’s. And even if you don’t love the items we chose, I hope you click over to their site and check out their other offerings. In fact. one of the items I am considering is a sun shirt, since I’ve been trying to reduce my sun exposure (there are even a couple on sale).
And Anthony’s is offering free shipping on your first order with a discount code. Just enter “touchofstyle” in the promo code box, and you will be saving some money because you are a reader of my blog.
Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: My first choice from Anthony’s site was a dress.
I know many older women don’t wear dresses as much anymore, but I think they can make life easier. I don’t have to figure out what top goes with which pants, so it’s one and done. I’d consider this dress a great option for warmer weather because it’s not super fitted or tight. This one has 3/4 length sleeves, but of course they have many others.
Since I’m always cold, I also was searching for some jacket to wear over the dress. A yellow rain slicker is a classic piece for the rainy, spring weather, so I figured I would look the part in this. But don’t worry, it also comes in black, taupe, blue or even lime colors if you don’t want to be seen from a mile away. For your information, this jacket seemed generously sized. I ordered an XS, and I could certainly layer it over many items. And how fun are the polka dots on the inside?
The other fun item I saw on their site was a rain cape. Have you ever seen one of these before?
Anthony’s even has some fun accessories that are very spring and summer like.
My purse is actually from Pier 1 from last year, but Anthony’s has some similar bags. There’s a straw version or a flower one.
Now, you know I am the princess of the sale portion of any store (the queen title goes to my mother), so if you love the idea of an easy dress, then let me point you in the right direction.
I found a floral dress, a black & white print along with a dress with pockets.

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: Nancy was ecstatic to find so many petite options to choose from for her outfit.
That doesn’t always mean the items don’t have to be altered at all, but maybe not as much. So Nancy started her search for her outfit in the petites. If you’re not a petite, they also have quite a range of sizes from S to XL and some even sized to 18.
This blue shirt was chosen because Nancy was trying to choose a top with more color in it. I know stripes are a print that many women shy away from. Yet the diagonal version can work on any woman. In fact, I told Nancy that this top reminds me of her red one that she wore this winter.
I love how it’s asymmetrical in the front and the back. I even saw one on sale in a black, shorter version.
Let’s talk about the pants now.
These are almost a sweatshirt material and the kind that both Nancy and my mom love for traveling. They don’t bind, are easy to wear and have an elastic waistband. Anthony’s have this same kind of pull on pants in jeans too.
White seems like a perfect choice for spring break, yet the palazzo pants are also very popular every year.
FYI, Nancy ordered her usual sizing in petites and the top needed no alterations and fit perfectly. She did have my mother take in the pants along the sides so they weren’t so baggy.

Charlotte’s (80+) Outfit: First, I just have to point out that my mother is a nut.
She loved this little person standing here, and wanted to pose next to him, and even copied his expression!
As for mom’s outfit, she started by looking for some colored pants that she doesn’t already have in her closet. Now that’s no easy feat, if you’ve ever seen my mother’s closet. What I especially love is that she’s embracing the capris. I know there is always such a controversy about whether these pants can be flattering. We’ve styled them a couple of times on the blog because they are a nice alternative if you don’t wear shorts anymore.
And then my mom chose this shirt because of the funnel neck and longer sleeves. If you are dreaming of spring break too, then you’re probably considering wearing colorful items like this top.
For those of you still living in winter weather like us, then you might appreciate an embellished sweater or boucle jacket to keep warm.
As for changing the items up and making them fit her body, let me tell you what mom did. She did not order her items in petites, although there are times she does since she’s 5’4″
One of the things that my mom has taught me is it’s easier to alter the pieces smaller, than try to make them larger. I think it’s an important tip when shopping online, because until you know a brand and their sizing, it’s hard to get a reference.
For my mom’s top, she thought it would look nicer if it was a little shorter in the front portion. It came with the slit on the sides, but the front and back were the same length at first. So she took up the front of the shirt. She also shortened her pants so they were truly a capri length on her.
If you are one that loves capri or cropped pants, then Anthony’s certainly has you covered since they are based in Florida where the sun always shines, right?

Thanks to one and all of you for your support. It means more than you know!
Since we were going on spring break with Anthony’s we thought we’d visit a place that has airplanes for our photos. These photos were taken at Wings over the Rocks Air & Space Museum. It is located at the old Lowry Air Force Base in Denver.
This “plane” we are looking at below is a fighter plane from Star Wars on loan to the museum. If you look closely you can see R2D2 in the back seat.
