Holiday Inspired Looks for a Casual Time
Quote of the day: “The best way to cheer youself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” Mark Twain
With the holidays right around the corner, it’s that time again when we begin considering what to wear to all of the holiday events. Today I started out the theme of holiday inspired looks by exploring a casual look.
And if you’re close by, the 3 of us will be at Paradise Luggage in Englewood later this week. The details are below, and we’d love to have you join us.
This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about the holidays on the blog. Last year we shared memories from our past about this time period, and 3 years ago we styled holiday outfits.
Jodie’s (50+) Outfit: I know most of us think about red when putting together a holiday inspired look.
So call me rebellious when I decided to try for holiday inspired textures instead of colors. I threw together some fur, shine, and velvet all in the same outfit. It may not bring up images of the holidays per se, but I thought it turned out to be a lovely look.
The vest I recently found at a consignment store. The funny thing is the store was dark, so I didn’t realize it was a blue plaid. It seemed solid colored to me until I got it out in the sunlight. But it’s quite heavy, and the hood is removable which is nice. The other nice thing about a vest, is you can still show off your statement sleeve tops and still have a warmer layer on top.
You may have seen this photo on Instagram where I discussed this hat in detail. I have been quite enamored with hats lately, and this style is being seen everywhere. There are velvet versions, leopard versions and your tweedish versions of this baker boy hat.
I’ve also been trying to layer my scarves and necklaces together. I figured I have so many of these items, that I might as well wear them together. This necklace is one I was able to try out through my Rocksbox service. I sent it back, but requested it again so I could purchase it! Since I wear a lot of blue, it gets a lot of wear.
These jeans are my first pair of distressed jeans.
I know many of you, don’t love the idea of holes in our clothing, and I totally get that. I truly only bought these because I really wanted grey jeans and was too impatient to look for others. Once I started wearing the distressed detail, I did like it a little better, but the disadvantage is you tend to put your foot through the hole when you put your jeans on, ha ha! Therefore, I thought I’d DIY them with some grey stretchy lace. We will see how this holds up and if I like it better.
The photos don’t really show the shine of the sweatshirt very well. In real life, it almost looks like snowflakes, because it’s similar to a plastic coating on the fabric.
And the last detail that I thought might work for the holiday inspired looks idea was the velvet scarf. I wore this scarf when we styled velvet last year. It’s a lot of components for this outfit, but I really loved how it came together.

Nancy’s (60+) Outfit: Nancy recently picked up this fur lined vest at a holiday market nearby so we thought it’d be perfect for this holiday inspired look post.
The faux fur is incorporated throughout the entire inside of the vest, so I also suggested for her to wear it inside out sometime in the future.
And since there was this large expanse of material with no decoration, Nancy added some pins to it. I have fallen in love with brooches ever since we started styling them on the blog. In fact, now when I go to thrift shops, I always check out the brooch selection because there are usually wonderful deals to be had.
These jeans are really a rust color in person even though they look more red in these photos.
But any kind of red jean would be perfect for this holiday season. There are dark red versions (with tummy control, no less), burgundy versions, and bright red versions. And just think, you could easily wear them for Valentines Day also, LOL!
Nancy even added a thin scarf to the vest to bring out the black of the turtleneck. My mom made all three of us scarves like this one year, so you may see the same one on all of us at times.
Since it is basically winter, the boots come out for most of our outfits. Nancy is wearing her Jambu ankle boots that we styled 2 different ways earlier this season. The company does concentrate on comfort for their footwear, and Nancy has stated that these are the most comfortable booties she’s ever had.
Jambu is still offering a 10% discount for my readers until December 15 if you’re interested. Just use the code JTouch17. The only suggestion Nancy would say is to order these booties a half size bigger so you can also wear thick socks with them. They fit fabulously with thin socks, but they are too tight with thick, wool socks.

Charlotte’s (70+) Outfit: My mom opted for a red and green holiday inspired look.
I love how her green is more of an olive green in her boots and gloves. She has the gloves on in the top collage photo and below in the close up of the boots. In the other photos they are sitting on top of the purse.
Gloves are one of those accessories that are much needed in our part of the country. Not everyday, but when you need them, you need them. If you are looking for holiday inspired ones, then you should check out this pair or this pair. And don’t you love that many of the gloves now have a touchscreen capacity? It just goes to show how even our clothing changes with the times.
The tassel earrings are a pair made by our blogette, Jude when we met up in Seattle. Even if they are easy to make as Jude claims, what a wonderful and thoughtful gift. I probably have at least 3 pairs of tassel earrings in different colors. They are such a modern detail, and for not much money. For example, if you love blue, white, black, grey or red, your wish would be granted.
Isn’t a red sweater or sweatshirt considered a basic?
Just like with the red jeans, this piece could certainly get a ton of use for all of the holidays. Let alone the normal days. There are definitely a ton of different variations of the red sweater and maybe you have all of them in your closet?
The poncho has been making a huge comeback lately. And there’s always the turtleneck although this one is the finer kind. You can find the red sweaters with fun details, and don’t forget the cardigans.
I will admit that I was never one to consider your purse as part of your outfit until this blogging started. But don’t you think the red sweater looks more intentional since there’s a red purse to match? Even if you didn’t choose a matching color, it can be a great way to add in some other fun color or print. At least that’s how I rationalize my purse purchases lately.
And since these black pants are not skinny ones, my mom used these Hollywood boot straps to make it easier to tuck her pants into her boots.

‘Tis the season for all kinds of holiday inspired looks. I’d love to hear your favorite way to keep festive for the casual events.
Thanks to one and all of you for your support. It means more than you know!
