How to Dress for Summer for a Party
The question of how to dress for summer especially for a party or event is one of those that has SO many answers. And the nice thing about life right now, is that we can vary from style to style and still be presentable.
Quote of the day: “You don’t need a reason to do everything in your life. Do it because you want to. Because it’s fun. Because it makes you happy.” Unknown
Back in the day, there were so many rules concerning our outfits and how to dress for summer. But I love that we have more freedom now.
And who doesn’t have some kind of summer party planned? There are the obvious weddings and graduation parties, but I’ve been to birthday and anniversary parties too. It’s always nice to have something in your closet so you don’t have to run to the store for an outfit.
Our Summer Party Looks
We were so blessed to have friends hold a going away party for us. More about that below. And since my bestie, Stacy, was joining us, I had her be part of the blog too.
Stacy wore a summer dress with sandals and sentimental jewelry.
My mom wore a monochromatic outfit of pink, pink and more pink. She has requested that we both wear our matching sheer tops for the event. Sometimes we do dress somewhat alike unintentionally, but this time it was planned.
And since I knew I was wearing my pink kimono, I wanted to break the old rules about pairing pink and red together.
The Party
It was Brooks and Jill above that organized the party for my blogging/influencer friends in the area. We had worked with Brooks in the past as she is a clothes designer and has amazing talent. And I interviewed Jill on the blog because she helps with training caregivers of people with dementia.
Talk about truly heartwarming when Cindy (in the first photo), and Lisa (in the second photo) both showed up from over an hour away. Not only have I collaborated with Cindy on an iconic hotel here in Denver, but she’s joined us on the blog before. Lisa has also met up with us and been included on the blog when we talked about sneakers.
And the woman in the third photo in Megan. Megan used to own a boutique here in Denver, and that’s how Brooks and I met up! It was so wonderful to connect with her again.
How to Dress for Summer Parties
So I reached back into our photo vaults and found options that would work for summer parties. What I find is quite amazing is that many of these photos are from awhile ago, which goes to show how we don’t have to be buying things all the time. And that while styles changes, so many also stay the same.
Dresses
My mom is wearing a dress that is perfect for her in the first photo. It has sheer sleeves so she feels covered, and is flowy for the hotter days.
In the second photo, I have on a maxi dress. I do think these can be very functional because again you are more covered, yet it’s not tight and hot. And they are easy for sitting around at music festivals and such.
Then Nancy is showing off one of her beautiful dresses. I know I say this all the time, but dresses are so easy. You only need to put on shoes (and maybe an accessory or two) and you are good to go.
Separates
Nancy is styling a knit shirt with a floaty print skirt. I love how the color of the top echos one of the colors in the skirt.
Charlotte always loves wearing skirts and she wore a couple of different florals in this outfit.
I opted for culottes for this look since not everyone is a huge fan of skirts. But when the culottes are wide, they can give the appearance of a skirt. Which make them seem dressier for a party.
Pants
I just had to showcase fun colored pants for this styling idea of a casual reunion.
Nancy dressed up her black pants with some metallic for the next photo.
And then I found a photo of mom wearing black pants for the summer too. I feel like black pants are a staple for everyone, and so they would work well for this theme.
So I’d love to know what is your go-to for a summer party??
